I heard Colin Currie perform this piece (I believe with the RSNO under Alsop) probably fifteen years ago. It was an amazingly exciting performance, which led me to discover other music by Christopher Rouse. I'm very happy to find it here because I can't find a recording of the concerto anywhere.
So much music here and some very contrasting styles in the last section . More popular maybe jazz style interspersed with starker music . The female timpanist too was formicable .Colin Currie has pizazz , charm and infectious musical performing style !
Late Romantic music beautiful thanks colin and chris for writing a really cool piece
