Kevin Munroe, director of the 2007 TMNT movie, once said: "There’s absolutely no mention of Venus de Milo, the female Turtle. You can’t even joke about that with Peter. It’s just one of those things that he hates with a passion."

I've said this a lot of times in numerous platforms that I've no problem NO PROBLEM with Slash, Mettalhead, Tokka, Jennika or , The Dark Turtles who are either friends or foes to our heroes in a half shell but Venus oh my Fucking God I Hate her because she destroys the amazing and unique dinamic of the 4 TMNT and I agree with Peter Laird
The only other mutant turtles I like are Tokah and Slash
Great channel, you definitely know your stuff. It's also refreshing to see a content creator who isn't afraid to go against the "modern audience", and not shill for all of the more questionable elements that have been injected into the franchise like most of the other channels I've come across on YT. I've been a fan since 87 and I learn something new every video.
Agreed
100% this
saban obviously didn't know anything about tmnt at all
Tried to hard to make them like Power Rangers.
I disagree
I wonder if what happened to the IDW ongoing still would’ve happened if laird was still involved in the franchise. I’d argue people have softened to Venus over the years in a kinda memey way and now jennika is far more reviled. Hope no one got baited into buying nightwatcher btw. Fucking dirty 💀
I agree 👍, I skimmed through the comic, and saw that it was her. She stole Raphael's vigilante costume 😡
@@jrr2480 it's embarrassing that they had to hide the fact it was her just to sell any. Vile business practice
@@Violetsforroses235 very true 😔
@@jrr2480 really?! Wow! I'm sure they meant for it to be a twist. It's more like a bait and switch.
What the fuuuuuuuck?!
I like Venus and feel like IDW did a decent job bringing her back after so many years of inactivity, but I do wish she wasn't involved with the group of 4 siblings and the bond they formed (Casey Jones is a better fifth turtle than what they tried to make it) and I don't blame Peter Laird for hating her, being in his place and thinking how shocking it must be how corporations re-tool your ideas just because "Yeah, we'll do this and that to get more audiences" must have been a pretty low blow. It's like suddenly your sons having contact with a family cousin they had no idea existed.
I would have Venus in tmnt 2012 and she would be Leo’s love interest then karai his stepsister
You know people, not every character needs a love interest right?
Kevin was always the bendable kinda corprate guy. Thats not always a bad thing, but when it came to working with Saban he should have walked.
I will only accept them if they're allies or villains. We don't need "core fifth turtle". Honestly, I prefer a new mutant turtle as the archvillain.
So Slash. I think Slash looks cool on the nes and snes game
You know i still didn't like how IDW used Venus in the comics it was pretty bad and kinda curel of how they brought this character back only to later Kill her off
Like man i wish they could make Venus a well writen good character because i sure would
Venus is not dead in IDW Continuity. She was last seen in issue #150 and quite alive.
@@AngusJo bruh she went to heaven
@@Ali-ii8il Okay, you're right. I've just looked it up again. I remembered the last scene wrong. I didn't remember that she actually comes back to the past from the afterlife, without an explanation of how... That comic really is something...
@@AngusJo Being written by a middle aged man drunk on troonshine will do that to a series .
@@JohnSmith-f5z troonshine 💀
I think Venus can work. Doesnt even has to be a turtle. Venus as a female mutant friend/sister that comes to help every now and then would be fine.
And above else, I will take her any day over Jenika.
Which really sucks, Jenika doesnt look that bad either. Sad a horrible man made her tho.
Also, the woman in the Venus outfit was super hot.
The best thing that came from this show is the fact that the guy who played the Red Power Ranger In Space brags that he is only Power Ranger to beat three Ninja Turtles on his own.
I liked Venus, she was the only character on that show that had a personality.
Venus was the absolute last thing wrong with Next Mutation if you see how stupid the Turtles and villains are.
Yeah, hearing Leonardo say they are not blood related almost had me not watch the show. As long as they are from the same farm, even turtle farm turtles are related by blood. I was such a long time turtle fan I powered through it. At the time it was better than nothing.
Then IDW brings her back as a Frankenstein's Monster with mystical powers. 🤣
Being a young girl back in the 90s, I was ECSTATIC when I saw Venus for the first time! Especially since strong female representation was essentially non-existent back then. But even kid me quickly started questioning her character. "How can she beat all 4 brothers at the same time (something only Splinter and Shredder had achieved) but struggle to fight a few Footclan on her own? Why is she smarter than Donatello but so dumb at the same time? Why is she suddenly so emotional? And why is literally EVERYONE hitting on her?!" Sure, it was awesome seeing a mutant girl being kickass on screen. But much like Megan Fox being casted as April o' Neil, realizing that their only purpose was to be Mary Sue eye-candy quickly sucked all joy out of the character.
It's kinda how I feel about the new stuff with the new Turtles. For me it feels similar to Superman's history of being the last Son of krypton. Then by the 60s it appears that so many Kryptonians survived that special aspect was mute. The Turtles being the four is what makes them special but now you have more Turtles and Mutants that being human is more unique in the comics. It just takes away from them for me.
Hearing Peter Lallard and Kevin Eastman breaking up as friends makes me sad.
Some of that has been exaggerated. That "The Toys that Made Us" show made it sound like they hadn't spoken to each other in decades and they brought them back together, but Eastman later that they (The Nacelle Company, makers of that show) mislead their audience, and that he and Laird had still been in contact and friendly with each other.
Robot Chicken made fun of her death.
1 + 1 = 3. The best thing I've ever heard in my life😭☝️
I hate how in context it's actually mathematically right.
The only way she could of worked is in Animation, and from the same Dimension that Usagi Yojimbo comes from.
Why dont they rerelease those 2003 mirage tmnt staues i always wanted one i remember when toys r us and fox box threw that redesign sweepstakes thats what made me get into drawing than beg my sister and dad to draw the turtles for me
Bu-bu-but Tatoruzu -Tatoruzu!
I think I have a name in mind, but I'm going to think it over first

I liked the designs of the Turtles in Next Mutation.
In my fan series of TMNT, Venus would be a human fighter who gets mutated into a turtle, kinda like Jennika. She’d be a reoccurring character with my OC Turtle Sante.
That's a great idea
Frankly I think if the show was a 2D cartoon style show it would had been better and maybe Peter would had go along with it after all.
thank you for this video
3:30 good thing their wasn't a mating season episode 😂
I kinda like venus de milo and next mutation in my opinion its one of my first introductions to tmnt as a baby i had east meets west vhs along with 87 reruns on burger King kids club vhs from back then and the 1990s black white and yellow movie vhs trilogy I'm a 95 baby I remember that time they crossed over with the power rangers in space that was like the mcu and dcau to me back in the day and the in space power rangers was just as awesome as the mighty morphin season 1&2 at the time I didn't know they censored nunchaku cause I only remember seeing the first season on the 87 show but giving Michaelangelo extendable tonfa was a wise choice over a grappling hook and no weapon
tbf I didn’t mind her either, and I think they left the dynamic largely in tact, as she was never one of the boys or tried to be, as they are trying for with idw and the dyk3 who’s screwign the pigwoman. Venus is unintrusive as a character, and was a kind of consultant rather than an active member of the squad.
I also have similar memories; that block on fox kids was great, and something to look forward to coning home from school. I liked the crossover as well, but I remember distinctly that they got the voice actors wrongin a big way, and I think Raphael was Michelangelo’s voice and vice versa.
The crossover was pretty cool, yeah.
Honestly the entire show was a mess. A female turtle might have worked, but in that show absolutely nothing did.
The only point I take issue with is Venus having breasts. Mainly because the main TMNT are often depicted with very male bodies. Lately with hair and beards sometimes! So, to me, it's just part of her mutation.
I agree with Tatoruzu on this. Turtles are reptiles. They are not mammals, so they should not have mammary glands. Also, having breast shaped bumps on her plastron, as if her shell is clothing that is concealing human breasts, is moronic -- the result of lazy designers. They should have looked at how male and female turtles actually differ and then use those differences in their costumes.
And if more recent versions have been giving the Turtles hair, I don't like that, either, for the same reason: they're not mammals.
@@KasumiKenshirou They're made up mutant reptiles. With mammalian-male coded bodies, unless they're depicted as very young.
I mean ... we've had a mutant car. Mona Lisa wears a pony tail and has breasts. Mondo Gekko also has hair. I mean, does it make sense that Tokka has all those spikes? Or that he and Rahzar grow into full, adult, bodies? So many mutants have traits that don't "make sense", but this is the thing Venus gets picked on.
It's just hypocritical. In this very show all the turtles have shells that conform to their muscles. Like Roman armour. Including pecks! But only Venus is called out for it. If you call Venus out for it, you have to call all of them out for it.
There’s nothing wrong with Venus really. She’s fine, and hell of a lot better than what we’d get later
In a way i wish the kids wb pilot got a show cause those character model sheets looks like the original mirage art style mixed with spectacular spiderman in a way
isnt there another female turtle now in the comics
Raph has a girlfriend
Rise tmnt wasn’t even that bad though
Kevin eastman was definitely in the promotional material of next mutation
What about Mikey and seri from vol 4
shinobi is ghe same as ninja hence why NARUTO switches back and forth
who'd've thought including women in an all boys franchise was a bad idea?
if only marvel had learned from their mistake az the turtle team did
What music in the end of the video?
It's from Tetris CD-i

who do you think is the real creator of tmnt, Peter or Kevin?
They’re both the creators!!!!
@@connormetcalf7049 yeah but which has the more saying in what the tmnt should be
Both of em but Kevin eastman doodled them first
Kevin Eastman was the main creator of TMNT originally, but Peter Laird helped make them better. Eventually, Peter took control of the franchise, while Kevin was busy running a different business on the side.
@@jrr2480 they both created the tmnt to where you can't even tell which panel layout belongs to who eastman drew up Michaelangelo he didn't draw up raphael leonardo or donatello by himself and Peter titled it teenage mutant
Kevin Eastman Simon Bisley michael dooney and Next mutation chiodo brothers character model sheet designs started nickelodeon and idw trend of making the turtles athletic muscular football jock build than anotomically desining them squat and stocky like a real turtles anatomy or the original mirage art style and this art design from next mutation started the trend of giving the turtles extra unnecessary wrist and leg wraps like a muy thai fighter lifeld pouches and unique mask like giving raph a ripped up tattered mask and the durag mask outside of the passing prequel story from mirage breaking the uniformed bushi no jitsu kage clone technique esthetic like we're seeing in the rise cartoon, tmnt mmpr crossover, the tmnt cross over with naruto, the tmnt fortnite designs, the michael bay dualogy movies and idw tmnt ripping off the indiviualism idk why we haven't got a tmnt property in animation or live action utilizing the uniromed all red mask simple sash wrist pads elbow pads classic mirage comics look. The tmnt arent supposed to be superheroes their uniform should not be the esthetic of the xmen or justice league.

Man to be honest I think you’re being a bit harsh. I loved the next mutation and got all the toys, based sheerly on visual design alone, even though the faces were jacked up. Venus was a nothing character really, but even as a small boy I could understand the utter isolation and futility the turtles had to have faced. And this fact really hits you different in live action. Their hideout is no longer a cool lil base and you actually start to think ‘damn that place is a mess’. The mystical elements are actually creepy and the kung fu was ok. I was happy they got a sister. And what’s more venus was extremely unintrusive if i remember correctly. She broke some of the tension i thought, and didn’t steal the boys’ thunder at all. Is what it is. I must say though I prefer when you are praising some aspect of the mirage turtles or providing some more objective commentary. The world is harsh enough as it is, and I look forward to your updates but lately it’s like ‘oh man he’s shitting on something again’.
I make a good mix of critical videos and positive videos. A lot of people seem to enjoy the critical videos, but some people only enjoy the positive ones. Obviously, I wish every video could please everyone, but sadly, that's not possible.
But I felt like this particular video was important to make because it touches on a subject that is crucial to how I view the turtles: the question of female turtles and the existential tragedy of the turtles. It's this perspective that informs my positive videos on Mirage. Without these "negative" opinions, then I never would have made the "positive" videos.
If you want a wholistic understanding of my thoughts on the turtles, then both the positive and negative videos are necessary. If you only want to be entertained and hear comforting praise, that's okay too - those videos will always be a part of the channel.
@@Tatoruzu lol this is among the most eloquent gaslights I’ve heard bro. You shit on things hard. Like world-class dumps, like dino-turds.
So truthfully, I do not actually approve of more turtles and worse still female turtles. I give venus a pass because she’s inoffensive, and I have a soft spot for the next mutation given its place in my childhood, and in particular those next mutation drawings on the old site which in my view are some of dooney’s best work period.
That said, GOOD GOD peter is a world-class whiner. This dude has let out the turtles so many times and then just shits on the results over and over, or, as we have been learning, tried to screw other contributors over. Mind you I usually agree with him, but there comes a point when you have to seriously consider if the problem is you. If I’m being fair this point was reached, which was when he gave us the tmnt magnum opus, the. 2k3 cartoon, and heavily supervised imagi movie which was a great outing imo.
I honestly do try to remain positive myself but nearly every new thing I learn about him just paints him as a spoilt elitist champagne socialist whose greatest strength is the ability to say ‘no’, with his main excuse being ‘I’m making too much money to do all this stuff myself’. Well whatever I just did some shitting of my own fair is fair.
I’m awaiting your video on him which I hope will be the crescendo of the summer of 88. You’ve got the sword of Damocles over you Tat; it me I’m Damocles
@@elmatasesues3630 are you okay bro?
Kevin eastman was doing tundra and heavy metal at the time and kevin sold out his share of tmnt then
Plastrons shouldn't have tittys pecks or abs their bone rib cage exoskeleton the turtles are from the same clutch of eggs they're related but what they get wrong with every tmnt model they always split open their scutes that connects the plastron to the carapace showing rib pectorals and some people draw the tmnt carapaces like back packs when thats their spine
We need more scientific points of view in questions about the boobs of a huge talking turtle in ninja costume
I know it's gonna be controversial, but I think Peter as well as the majority of the fanbase were way too of a crybabies about Venus. Sure, Next Mutation flopped, but it's not like a concept of a female turtle is the end of the world.
And I'm so glad Venus is back in IDW comics, given the care she deserves and Peter can do nothing about like he did with rejecting her for 2007 movie. Venus is a sweetie and I hope she would appear in future animated projects.
Alopex > any female turtle (mutant ninja)
@Jackfromshack In regards to Jennika, yes. Venus and Lita are good characters in my opinion, and them being female mutant turtles doesn't make anything bad. After all, why is Slash welcomed by the fanbase even though he's a fifth turtle too?
Besides, Alopex is quite different from Venus and Lita, so I don't really see the point in that comparison. It's like saying Sally Pride is better than Mona Lisa because she's a furry instead of lizard.
@@ashesGeek we're talking about its idea, not its presentation. The love interest for turtles does not have to be a turtle. Slash confirms that the problem is not in the fifth turtle, but in the idea that stands behind it.
@@ashesGeek also Jennika just sucks. But i like her look
@Jackfromshack I see your point that female Turtle doesn't need to be entirely about love interest and I agree with that, but Venus and Lita weren't bad characters exactly because a love interest wasn't their entire personality.
Like sure, Venus was all Turtles crush at first, but that was in first episode of Next Mutation. Afterwards that concept was completely dropped and Venus became full member of the team
Since I watched the entire show I'd even argue she was the most responsible of the group when other four were usually irresponsible and kinda sexist to her as a partner. I felt bad for her a lot and didn't understand why she was in the team.
I'm not gonna lie, Next Mutation is objectively bad TMNT piece of media, but Venus definitely wasn't the show's problem but one of the better executed parts of it. And so I stand that the massive hate she got was undeserved.
