Taylor Swift has this undeniable ability to encapsulate a wide range of emotions across her discography. Anyone who brushes her off as someone who just writes breakup songs really doesn't know about her skills as a songwriter. She's one of the best to ever do it, and I think when she calls time on her career, we'll hold her in the same regard as we do for Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. Songs like "All Too Well" and "Champagne Problems" tell beautiful stories that couldn't be told by any other person.
Epiphany makes me sob. It talks about people’s experiences with COVID and wars and it just cuts deep. Something hurting so bad you don’t even want to discuss it. And friends and family dying during covid. Medics being overwhelmed and unprepared. It literally makes me cry so hard because it reminds me of my great aunt and my uncle.
Safe and Sound for me. That song never fails to give me chills. One of her most underrated songs. Also the lyrics to Anti Hero lately for me. I’ve spent this last year dealing with imposter syndrome and being in my own head, and for me I find the lyrics to this song so relatable it hurts.
I wouldn't call myself a Swiftie. But for me, it's "Cardigan". She released the song a year after my bf had died. And that song reminds me so much of him. And even 5 years after his death. I still cry listening to that song. That song definitely pulled on my heart strings when I first heard it. And I agree with #1 on MsMojo's list.
yes i was about to comment this! i once sat quietly listening to the song and just teared. how she managed to convey the feeling that we know our love is no longer appreciated and taken for granted, but yet we can’t bring ourselves to escape. 😢
As a mother of two young boys Ronan hits so hard. Sometimes the days are hard as a parent and you realize if your babies are healthy that is all that matters.
For me as of late, it’s Castles Crumbling because for me it represents my emotions in this period of my life, especially with my depression, anxiety, and stress that has been getting worse throughout college, and has caused my burnout and lack of motivation to increase. I feel like I’m not a good student anymore. And since that’s all I have time for anymore and it’s all I’ve every really had time for, so it feels like I’m just standing there, frozen in my anxiety and depression, watching what I’ve taken so long to build, my grades, my reputation, my achievements, crumble down around me, making others (even if I have so few friends) turn against and not trust me or hate me, and that makes me hate myself. The song makes me feel strangely better about it by addressing how I feel so well, I just have to listen to feel understood.
@@reactsbyalex4049I mean it's about the panic of a friend deteriorating and dying from depression and addiction and the powerlessness of not being able to help them so...
@@reactsbyalex4049 I can literally quote the whole song, that's how emotional and deep the song is. This has to be one of her saddest songs because of how she narrates mental health struggles, loss of her friend, and helplessness in the face of her friend's pain. I deem it as one the saddest songs because it tells the story of her witnessing a beloved friend one grappling with depression, feeling powerless to help, fearing the worst, and the desperation to rewrite her friend's fate. Also, this was the time when she was purely a storyteller writer (which she is now a storyteller and a poet, in terms of songwriting at least), so the passages of the song really feels direct and raw but scathing and harrowing at the same time. "All this time I didn’t know you were breaking down, / I’d fall to pieces on the floor if you weren’t around." "If I was standing there in your apartment, / I’d take that bomb in your head and disarm it." "Too young to know it gets better/ I'll be summer sun for you forever." These are just some of my fave lines from Forever Winter and I still believe it's among the saddest songs that she has self-written.
When I first listened to "Tolerate it" I had to stop driving, because I was crying so badly. This song relates so much to how I often feel in my life and I still can't hold back my tears any time I hear it. Same for Ronan, it is such a drama what to the boy and the family. I cry my eyes out every single time I hear it.
Even though I still have trouble listening to Ronan without crying, I'm glad it was placed at #1. In my opinion, the most telling indication of the song's crippling emotion is the devastating reality that to date, Taylor has only performed Ronan live twice - once at a charity event called Stand Up To Cancer, and again during one of her 1989 Tour shows. If only Taylor could've met him.
If Ronan wasnt number 1 it wouldnt have made sense, thats one of the saddest songs ever. I dont even have kids and it makes me cry, imagine if youre a parent that lost a child and you listen to that song, itll destroy you.
i can't even listen soon you're get better without blasting in tears, my father died of lung cancer, and mom thankfully got successfully operated uterus canser.
Ronan is the only TS song that has ever made me cry. I didn’t even know the background information, but the line “You were, my best, 4 years.” Made me cry.
agree, yes heartbreak hurts but compared to a 4 yearl old death, cancer, miscarriage, war & Covid, a friend's suicide, death of a loved one when you are young, a little girl dreaming about saving her best friend from an abusive father and childhoold memories... these are another level of sad, and just pick 1 heartbreak song, for me it would be How did it End? over LOML but that is personal taste and experiences
The song *"Ronan"* is a deeply emotional piece, conveying the pain of loss through heartfelt and poignant lyrics. Taylor Swift masterfully uses music to retell a personal story, creating a strong sense of empathy with the audience. This is a song that is not only beautiful artistically but also carries profound humanitarian meaning, commemorating a brief yet meaningful life. The video highlights the versatility in Taylor Swift's music, showcasing her talent for conveying emotions through every song.
Got to admit, the 10-minute All Too Well does me in every time. lol. It doesn't even relate to my life at all. Just the way she goes from sad to angry to sad again - it's a rollercoaster. 😭
my top 13 list because there are some absolutely heart-breaking Taylor Swift songs that weren't mentioned in this video 13. a place in this world: it is so sad and was so relatable for teenage Taylor, wondering if she will get accepted in her happy place 12. this is me trying: struggling with mental illness is sad indeed 11. epiphany: the pandemic was very sad for all of us people made huge sacrifices and it must be so sad for Taylor having to cancel an entire tour she had been looking forward to, to protect the health of others 10. Ronan: Ronan is so sad, a 3 year old boy dying to cancer that is so sad and all condolences go to his mom 9. my tears ricochet: her masters being betrayed by people she trusted all the way 8. who's afraid of little old me/ dancing with our hands tied: I've tied these because they have similar meanings, they talk about how hard it actually is for Taylor Swift being the celebrity with stalkers and generally not having the privacy she would like 7. all too well: it is so sad, she gave everything for Jake Gyllenhaal but he was rude in return 6. back to December: its so sad seeing how Taylor Swift admitted to ignoring Taylor Lautner and it was such a heartfelt apology 5. Marjorie: imagine losing your grandmother at a young age and not getting to know her 4. delicate: wondering if the world will accept her true self. imagine how hard that must be 3. I can do it with a broken heart: imagine being depressed and heartbroken but still having to perform and fake a smile 2. never grow up: Taylor Swift wrote this song when she moved out and realise she was never going to be a kid again and that broke her heart. Taylor Swift also has said that she struggles singing it live because of how sad it is, that's saying something 1. soon you'll get better: there is no avoiding it, a close relative battling a serious illness and wondering if they will make out alive is such a heart-breaking experience, so that's why I think it goes at number 1 honourable mentions: so long London tolerate it this is why we can't have nice things karma i know places death by a thousand cuts bigger than the whole sky
1. Ronan 2. Bigger Than The Whole Sky 3. Epiphany 4. Soon You’ll Get Better 5. This is Me Trying 6. YOYOK 7. Marjorie 8. Tolerate It 9. The Prophecy 10. Exile
Castles crumbling felt like a stab in the chest cuz I relate so much to her lyrics there Forever winter just felt more painful and sadness because I cant imagine loosing my loved one or a close relationship with another. Its just so impactful to you if the unfortunate events happen to someone you love…
I disagree with this list so much 😅 not to sound like a hater, but there’s too many break-up songs. Last Kiss…sadder than Bigger Than The Whole Sky?? And I wouldn’t even consider songs that have a hopeful undertone like You’re On Your Own, Kid. My ranking would be (doing 13 instead) 1. Ronan 2. marjorie 3. Bigger Than The Whole Sky 4. Soon You’ll Get Better 5. Forever Winter 6. epiphany 7. The Prophecy 8. Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve 9. Right Where You Left Me 10. Never Grow Up 11. my tears ricochet 12. loml 13. All Too Well With honorable mentions being: Nothing New, Castles Crumbling, tolerate it, You’re Losing Me, How Did It End, and hoax

Nothing will be Ronan as the saddest Taylor Swift song
literally can't listen to 2 seconds of this song without sobbing
ronan hits so close to home for me
I'm not a massive swift fan by any means, but I've got a nephew about that age and it's one of the few songs that make me tear up every time
Exactly - The three songs I will never listen to again are Ronan, SYGB, Happiness. I just can't be that sad again.
That is the one that made me cry.

Don’t forget about world war 2
I absolutely cannot listen to Epiphany it makes me cry every single time, I lost someone in the pandemic so it's definitely deeply personal to me
Thank you! You cannot make a list of Taylor’s saddest songs and not include epiphany
I agree
This is me trying makes me tear up the most because of what I went through during Covid, was my number 1 on Spotify this year 🤍

anty hero is my jam, i always felt like impostor
no joke, I cried for a solid 10 minutes after I fully took in the lyrics of “Anti-Hero”🥲

Omg I love that song. Cardigan is my most favorite. Sorry for your loss btw
@@elijahscott3562, a beautifully written song that sometimes makes me cry
Rip
"Peter losing Wendy"😢
I was convinced that Tolerate It would be on number one! Saddest song I’ve personally ever heard.

Sameeee!!!!
"Soon You'll Get Better," since I lost both of my parents to cancer - this track hits home. 💙
As far as I'm concerned, there will never be a sadder, more heartbreaking song than 'Ronan'.
Right where you left me leaves me so vulnerable while listening...
Bigger than the whole sky

Oh, my.. All to well, You're losing me, Tolerate it, Champagne problem, loml, Smallest man who ever lived, breaks my heart totally everytime!
You should read the moment i knew, i even can imagine that picture happened
Don't You from the Fearless Vault always makes me sad.
It always makes me cry
As someone who is going thru a quarter life crisis, Nothing new is the saddest for me :) I can't listening to it without sobbing
“Sad beautiful tragic” is one of her saddest songs. Of course I can’t listen to Ronan, SYGB, or marjorie without tearing up.
Still looking for “tolerate it”, “how did it end?”, “so long, London”, “Peter”, “the manuscript” 🔎
LITERALLY
I think they were sticking with one song from TTPD, and I agree that "loml" is the saddest. But almost every song on that album could be on here.
@@Kristine_202 but they had two from evermore and tolerate it is sadder than both of them 🤷♂️

You're Losing Me is my personal #1.
Ronan just another level of sad song
Only thing that comes close for me is bigger than the whole sky
That song gives “Me and Littl Andy” by Dolly Parton level tears. I can’t.😢
Happy Birthday, Taylor. Thank you for every song that you write. 🫶🩶💛💜❤️🤎💙🖤🩷💚💖💓💝💗💘

You redeemed yourself with the honorable mentions. LOL I would have put a lot of those songs on the list, but I'm glad they were on here somewhere.
As someone who got Loml as a surprise song, I concur it is sad. Particularly live.
I agree with the list but not even mentioning forever winter is a crime 😭
I hadn’t learned much about Ronan because I only recently started listening to Taylor again, and wow I got teary just reading about it 😭
Tolerate it, peace, epiphany, marjorie
And Forever Winter??? Literally Taylor is grieving her friend who killed himself? That is one of the saddest songs she’s EVER released???
Back to December, all to well , your on your own kid, LOML, and your losing me
I don’t even have or had a kid but I ugly cry whenever I hear Ronan 🙃💔

How did it end😭
Forever Winter is for me, one of the saddest song she has ever written
Happy wednesday morning, Emily, take care and God bless you. Greetings from Colombia to you as well
Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus should be on the list too
I think Last Kiss should be in 2nd place! I already expected Ronan to be the first one on the list.
Maroon?
Bigger than the whole sky should be on the list not honorable mentions
Yeah that’s definitely her saddest song as it actually pertains to grief over a loss of someone in many ways
@ i know and its one if my favs on Midnights
Epiphany should have made the list though
I know Ronan will be number 1. Forever Winter should also be here in the list. :)
My top two skip Taylor Swift songs are definitely Ronan and Soon You'll Get Better.
Just pure devastating.
She even put her grandmothers vocals in Marjorie
Yes I agree
hi miss mojo your the best

I agree with their pick as #1, Ronan or Forever Winter. But where is mirrorball?
It's actually Marjories voice in the song not Bon Iver. She used an old recording of her grandmother singing
