Imo. Nothing changes in a year. Outside of a mass war, all the crap that's been seeding and becoming reality just becomes more the norm. It takes time and nobody questions how it happened.
If you're going to invoke Strange Days (1995), you might as well also clearly cite Brainstorm (1983). I'm not a big fan of it, but I recognize it as a kind of pioneer.
