With all the things you have going on, especially this month, it's very nice of you to think to create an Advent calendar with you opening each day's window. Clever man and much appreciated. - Leigh
Hi James, well done but....the easy way to get the cut tile is to lay the tile you need to cut on top of tile you have already placed.... as you nearly did and use a full tile to make the cut edge, I am sure someone with a greater command of the English language will /could explain better than me. Having followed you from day one I remain confident that you will 'win'. thanks for your interesting vlogs
Aww thanks - that’s kind of you to say. Bit of fun but it does keep me focussed - I need this type of motivation to maintain momentum otherwise I’d think “well most of the floors done….that’s ok” and leave it for a year like that
👍🏻 Excellent idea to do the advent work countdown. You’ve now committed to all, so you’ll be able to get lots of smallish jobs done and that will make a massive improvement for a homely boat. BTW loving the floor. Ideas: * Curtains - always someone on fb offering sewing services * Buy some fleece throws to cover the foam on the dinette seats, it will feel more like a lounge, especially with your cushions * Paint the walls and ceiling’s * Put some pictures/Wall-art up * Put some beading to cover gaps where the walls meet the ceiling * Clean kitchen cupboard doors
Morning James. I’ve not forgotten about your boat build videos. But we’ve bought a new house and have been busy sorting things out for the move on the 10th of December 😀 It’s north of Preston near Garstang with the Lancaster canal a short walk away lol 😆 So when we go for a walk we can think about you on the Sloe patrol. The advent calendar idea is really good 👍🏻 That floor tiling looks fantastic 👍🏻 Stay warm and safe. Cheers Stevie.
I agree with Vic Inglis. Place the tile you need to cut on top of the tile you just laid. Then take another tile and butt it up against the side of the boat. Draw the line on the new tile and presto perfect fit. All the best from OZ mate.
Sorry guys - yeah she is well thanks - spoke to her the other day. She got a good call from the doc a few days ago which has given her a great boost - thanks so much for asking - I’m sure she’ll see this
Hi Luke and Stuart . Many thanks for your kind comments. I have been laying low since the op . jus taking one day at a time .I am now catching up with missed messages , and a number of missed videos . I'm looking forward to Xmas, Ihope you both have a good time over the Xmas and new year. best wishes C x
Hi James if you lay the tile (tile A) you are going to cut exactly over the middle tile (tile B)that you have fixed, then use another full tile (tile C)over tile A but resting against the side wall that you want to scribe against, then use the edge of tile C that is overlapping tile A and cut along tile A. Tile C acts as a scribing line and you will get a perfect fit. Hope that makes sense, that’s how the pros do it. Keep vlogging.
I know it sounds a bit bonkers, but a heavy wooden rolling pin makes a great brayer for the stick-on tiles. You're able to lean into it to get the pressure evenly distributed on each tile as you stick it down. The floor looks really super--great job.
Yes, I placed vinyl tiles in my parents lower basement bathrooms. 1st one without rolling pin, second one with use of rolling pin. Year later with basement moisture, first bathroom, some tiles lifted off, Ugh 😩. Yes, it's a learning curve, no pressure in getting things done before Christmas break. Enjoy these DIY projects, James!🇺🇲⛄🎄⛄
Great idea. Was wondering about what to use in order to go over the tiles with some kind of weight. Rolling pin or some kind of reasonable facsimile 😂😂. Me dudn’t think that Capt. Jamer would video himself doing that however 😂😂. Cheers Mrs. Cox.
Curtains, throws for the dinette to make temporary covers. How about drawing one of those hight rulers on one of your walls to keep track of the kids as they grow? A nice memory and something for the kids too.
Be glad you don't play the tuba. Our renter has probably five of them in varying sizes. Pretty sure we should have charged him for two rooms for how much space they take up.

Hi James, I have used similar tiles before. You may find that some adhesive comes up at the joints as you walk through, a little bit of white spirit on a cloth will clean this away
Flip a tile over and place it on the last whole tile. Place one up against the wall the cut the flipped over tile. The piece you have cut will then fit snuggly into the space
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Yes, use whatever colour works but always use a silicon profiling tool (like Fugi silicon profilers) rather than a wet finger, to get a good, clean join and finish. I'd also use the profiler in the bathroom, gives a much better and more effective finish.
Hi James. Any news on the water heater? If the sprogs are staying over Crimbo, they'll need scrubbing regularly. All the best, mate. P.S. I asked the other day about your bed size. There was an "as new" 6'4" X 4' mattress on my local Freecycle a couple of days ago, and it's still on offer....
I’ve got a plan with the mattress mate - bit of a trek too !! Water heater is coming along, just slowly. We’re not far from my parents so the most time they’d spend on board is over night and a few hours and for that they can have a strip wash and for that I can easily warm enough water
Good work. You inspired me to buy similar tiles for my narrowboat from B&Q. I’ve been walking on a bare deck for the past 8 months after I revamped my saloon! How about finishing the curtain poles & brackets ready for when the curtains are complete.
The idea is to lay one tile over de one already on the floor, put a new one on top of that and move it towards the wall. Now you can make a mark where the underlaying one needs the cut. That should work…..but what the….there more ways doing it and get a result. Do it your way, it is your project, 💪
i've got a nice pale olive brown on my wall and something like that would really make the white spaces on the hearth tile design pop. It would feel warmer too. i think some of the ceiling boards could do with another coat and the seams tidying up. But it's getting less mechanical and more interior design now so my imagination is running riot. I did catch myself fantasy tile shopping the other evening! :)
@@annclark5082 @MsVanorak Would definitely make his home feel warmer but also could be used to identify the rooms/areas. Personally I would have a lot of wood with a soft accent colour.
The car body filler I guess would work but I don't think that you feathered it out enough for a level floor. Well it is now done so at this point it doesn't really matter. Another alternative would have been floor levelling compound to make up the difference in height. BTW try a hair dryer to loosen up any adhesive when trying to pull up a tile. The floor looks good and I must comment that I like your idea of the Narrowboat Advent calendar. If I don't make another comment have a Happy Christmas to you, your family and all of your views.
No James you put the tile directly over the tile that you have just layed then put the second tile up to the wall and draw the line onto the first tile and just cut along the line made on the first tile and one half of that tile will fit the wall perfectly...good luck
After I awoke from fainting….I called the SPAAG (Society for the Prevention of Abuse Against Guitars) office and they’ve agreed not to take your Takamine into protective custody! 😉 I thought about getting you a small stand (didn’t you have a larger one early on?) but fear that would be even worse & in the way. All kidding aside, I had a thought (I know rare): Would it be possible to put it on a mount (nearly) horizontally above the dinette on the starboard side? Or is the angle there to great to let it work? BTW, I like the Advent theme very much.
Hi James, sorry to say this mate but your making hard work cutting these tiles, please try cutting the tile one or two cuts then just snap it , try on a bit of scrap 👽slim knight
