Thanks for the suggestion. Even though we spent 3 days in Obi - there were still quite few places left to see
Went around Kyushu for 2 weeks back in March 2019 and went to Obi thinking we would just take pictures of the samurai town and leave. We ended up staying for 3 hours because of the map (free then) with built in food treasure hunt. We sat on the same bench eating the free food from the supermarket. We didn't get to try the tamagoyaki though as either the shop was closed or it wasn't included. The whole town was a pleasant surprise, especially the ornamental carp which we had not seen before and we lucked out on the cherry blossoms in full bloom. We got to ride on a rickshaw too, pulled by a volunteer.
We would love to go back to Kyushu. I hope we get to live there even for a few months, ride the 36+3 train, and soak in more onsen to escape Canada's winter. Thanks for the tour, Nick and Emiko!
Sounds like you had a fine time in Obi. The volunteer rickshaws are still there on weekends - we got to ride on one too - and that and other things will appear in an upcoming short video on Obi - here on Kyushu Live - in a few weeks. Please check back - and I hope you can visit Kyushu again soon.
Huge thanks Emiko san & Nick san for a beautiful, serene and healing day in Obi machi, so close to our family up the Obi Highway. I'm ill and recently out of the hospital. You have no idea how much better this Live has made my wife & I feel today. A dose of our beloved home after so long is medicine indeed- we'll run it many times, certainly. Wish we could stay at the fine samurai nobleman's residence there and explore all the town has to offer soon. It will be quite awhile for us yet. Any more livestreams planned around minami Kyushu this trip? Looking forward to your videos here coming out soon as well. Thanks again for the wonderful Obi experience! -mike
That's great to hear - and one big reason why we do and share these walks - to bring some of Kyushu closer to both people who have been here, and those planning a trip. No more streams in Miyazaki planned,,, but we will post an edited video (10 min) showing other parts of Obi. Might be ready in few weeks.

Fantastic samurai residence! We'd love to book this wonderful historic residence in 'Kyushu's Little Kyoto'! Actually, we would've liked the 2 hour 38 minute livestream to have lasted even longer, selfishly! Simply amazing.

Unfortunately not... he was short on staff, and couldn't be our guide. So we just a drink at his bar.

@@kyushuliveThe star made my day. Re viewer count, subscribers. Have you watched "our man in Japan" by James May on Amazon. 6 episodes. Very funny, and interesting. Travels from Hokkaido to Fukuoka. I think 🤔 if u did some of his items as short videos u could grow your subscribers. Example Nick receiving a foot massage. Or going to the straw town. I'm sure after viewing these 6 videos u can obtain inspiration for content creation in Kyushu as I doubt KyushuLive viewers have watched this Amazon series.
Hi! What time do shops usually close at Obi town?
Varies from shop to shop, but on the early side I think. Also, some places close once they have sold out of items - such as the "atsuyaki tamago" shop that we went to 1:51:23
