Bro pls make full detailed video about Ashok's family after Kalinga war and about his sons ,wives and grandsons... And also about how his life after Kalinga war... And also his successors n decline of Mauryan empire.. all above r unknown to many
Ashok had already adopted Buddhism way before Battle of Kalinga. This information is available in some edicts he himself erected. He just took it up seriously because the Jains and Ajivikas were against his conquest of Kalinga and Buddhism was an opposing religion. It is also believed that after the Kalinga war, Ashok got 18000 jains and Ajivikas beheaded. It is only a speculation that Ashok improved in his ways due the Battle of Kalinga. He had always been a ruthless and power hungry rule. Perhaps one of the reasons he took up non-violence was that there was virtually nothing left to conquer after Kalinga. But again, the only reasons we know a lot more about Ashok and not about Chandragupta and Bindusara is because of the edicts and scripts made during his rule. It seems very strange that there is nothing about Chandragupta and Bindusara on his edicts when they both were mighty rulers and much more benevolent. It raises some doubts if Ashoka got a lot of this done so that history would remember him as the greatest. While Ashoka is considered as the greatest Mauryan ruler, I am of the opinion that Chandragupta Maurya has a much more inspiring and legendary story. He formed an empire coming from nothing. There is not a single historical source that calls him an unjust ruler. And the fact that he left the throne at such a young age just takes it up a notch and helps the notion that he was more concerned about prosperity of the kingdom and its people rather than just sitting on throne with all the power.
True indeed Ashoka became Buddhist four years before the war. And yes! it's strange for Ashoka to not mention his ancestors as other ancient inscription like that of Kharvel, Samudragupta, etc. don't miss to mention their ancestors. Could Chandragupta's exceptional rule be due to influence of Chanakya? Chanakya's thoughts in Arthashastra and Chandragupta's actions seem to have a correlation.
Actually this topic is related to my History subject and I expect that you made videos on more interesting topic like Buddhism,Bhakti movement and so on..... And your animation is best .......... Keep it up👍👍

this story is very tragic, thanks for posting this though. but some people say that Ashoka started buddhism 2 n a half year ago before the war of Kalinga and teachers have been teaching us the wrong thing for so long anybody know why?
Yes Ananya, the teachers are not telling wrong! Ashoka, in his edicts tells us that he was already a Buddhist four years before the Kalinga War. However, a conflicting source, the Buddhist legends, tells us that Ashoka converted after his meeting with Nigrodha. Ashoka's edicts however do tell us that he was very remorseful of the destruction he caused due to Kalinga war. What we have showed in this animation is a story constructed using all these sources! The purpose of these videos are not to tell the exact History but to develop interest in the children and elders too in these topics so that they can study further! So Please do read more and discuss with the teachers to help understand the legacy of Ashoka better, and I hope this video helped you get interested in the story and have a foundational understanding of it 🙂🙂

That is true from the edicts of Ashoka 👍👍 however we have referred to the Buddhist text Ashokvadana for this episode and in it a different story is told
