  • Coleman have been selling petrol/gasoline stoves for many years now. We take the single burner Sportster Unleaded 533 beyond the usual test environment and take it out into the field to test it properly.
    In this review we use the Coleman filter funnel to fill the stove. This is NOT included with the stove and if you want one, then it must be purchased separately.

    the funnel also acts as a fuel fill level, it allows for air space in the tank so you get a good constant pressure.

    I've had one of these for, well, decades, lol. Used to be my go to stove. Kinda got put away for years, until I started overlanding last year. The versatility of these stoves is amazing. So much so, that when I went searching for a two burner, I picked up an old Coleman 425E off Ebay, for $30. Same fuel type, which makes it easy.
    These stoves are dead simple too. Nothing to break, only the generator to foul (and thats after DECADES of use, if ever). Occasionally replace a pump cup or o ring. Works with white gas, or simple motor fuel-making it extremely easy to find fuel.
    No leftover canisters to dispose of. No excess waste. Works in all temps. For car camping/overlanding/base camping, these old workhorses cant be beat!!!

      This is so effing sketchy. There are people watching this video who don’t know anything about this stove and yet they will not find out how to fill it properly, how much fuel is too much. Why too much fuel doesn’t allow enough air to remain in the tank and be pressurized by the pump. How many times to pump it initially, etc. a really shoddy review

      Nonsense. The 533 has notoriously unskilled users, and MANY of them. If you keep the pricker clean by rotating the lever through its full range of motion several times-whether when lit or not-it will scrape away anything preventing smooth movement. After doing that, I’ve been able to lower the flame down to a simmer. Without wind, it will stay at a simmer. A strong wind will blow a simmer flame out unless you use a wind screen.

      You can turn it right down without much issue. Sometimes if its super low, it can make a strange popping sound and blow itself out, so for ultra low simmering its not amazing. That is true of most stoves though, even LPG stoves. Aside from that, it is controllable and its certainly not full power or nothing.

    AND WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES A PETROL STOVE CHUG LIKE A TRAIN ?? ALSO IS THERE AN OVER PRESSURE RELEASE IN THE COLEMAN OR IS THIS NOT POSSIBLE ??

    • @DonegalOverlanding
      @DonegalOverlanding  4 роки тому +1

      If you over pressure it, the blue jets push out further from the burner. It doesn't happen now as you can easily feel when you are putting in too much pressure as you feel the resistance when you are pumping it. If you do over pressure it, you can just release the fuel cap and the air will all come out in a second. Or if you have just over pressured it a small amount, you can leave the air/fuel mix lever in the up position, that means more air in the mix which means the pressure will drop quicker. Once the pressure has dropped enough turn the fuel mix back to normal. It is really straight forward, just get one and then be happy you did!

    I'm planning to get one of these later for my camping trips. As it's quite heavy by hiking standards (~1kg) I think it'll be more suited for car camping, or if I'm hiking in a small group & we want to split equipment between teammates.
    Also, I hear using Coleman fuel/white gasolene/shellite is cleaner than petrol & you'll have less problems with a blocked generator...
    I wonder if kerosene can be used if you preheat the generator tube..?

    • @escapetherace1943

      kersone can be used but it will gunk it right up.....
      gasoline gunks it too but after a few dozen+ solid uses but is the most cost effective way to go, add some injector cleaner and it gunks up way slower.
      they're heavy and you likely won't be carrying liquid gas backpacking, so you may as well get the 2 or 3 burner (can make coffee + cook). The benefit of the 2 and 3 burner ones too is that the generator is completely straight so cleaning them even if they get dirty literally takes 3 minutes!!! so using gas is a why not

    • @oldsoldier181
      @oldsoldier181 2 роки тому

      I know this is old, but, my experience, using regular gas, you will still get years of use out of it without the generator getting all clogged up. Best to pick up a backup when you can, and just swap it out as needed, while the clogged one sits in brake cleaner overnight

      @@pauls4708 we use a chef torch to light it. We heat the generator for about 20 seconds prior to turning on the stove fuel, straight to blue, the heat burns off any deposits that may be in the generator.

      We will do it over and over because we make the videos and we get to decide what music to use. We notice that you have not made any content on your channel. So here is an invitation for you, go and create some original content, get some music on there that every person on the planet loves and then come back and tell us that you were wrong to criticise when instead you should be doing something positive in life. We have little time for people that whinge and complain that have contributed nothing themselves.
