Love this Ricky - big respect - all those of you who are on the fence about this - if you have a smart phone you basically have most of this functionality + sounds, ability to sample etc in Ableton NOTE - and it's free - I've been diving into that now the new Drum Sampler has been released with 12.1 it's ALL in Note - don't sleep on that app - it's great... I've already been making jams and importing into Live via Cloud and they sound great - and you can sample sound from video - just like on Koala Sampler - and again it works great - with some manual chopping! Lastly, I think as Ricky says, this is just V1 of the MOVE OS - there will be a lot of updates....
Hi Ricky - on the selecting effects thing...the back button on the left moves you up a menu but the undo button on the right takes you back to the previous effect (and has multiple undos).
Only just discovered you through interest in the Move, love your method in exploring and just trying shit out, you have an uncanny ability to explain what you are doing even when you’re not sure what your doing. Will be back and if Ableton ain’t giving you free stuff they need to get that sorted as it’s now at the top of my purchase list
Press shift when editing samples, and to the right of the “hold” knob is a “length” knob. THAT is your end point. Not hold. Because hold is time dependent , but length is not. So if you use hold to truncate a sample, you’ll hear past it, if you play @ a higher pitch (16 pitch).
I think you can revert back to the default effects for an instrument preset by using Undo. Back just takes you up to the top of the preset without undoing.

Hey Ricky. Thanks for this video. I’ve been enjoying my move, and the fact it causes you to think more about the melody, progression etc, and not sound design is priceless. Regarding studio integration with link …. Try LINKing it with a phone or device that has Link to midi app on it, then with a simple midi interface, or possibly even just the usb cable you can send clock to your DT etc. link is dope by the way, rock solid. No device is the master, all just works within a network of synced devices, you just join the party at the beginning of the next bar after you press play
thanks for your vids. I finally got a drumkit made on live to export into Move successfully. A number of steps to get it set up, but it works. Will try Wave or Drift preset next.

@ableton should build out the sampler mode on the MOVE to include warping and chopping. also they should incorporate chords functions and creative arpeggiation like the novation MK4 does
I'm really liking the Move so far, feels great, high quality product and great controller for Live too and dropping in sessions to the DAW is seamless.
You mentioned it just briefly (or i missed it) so i want to ask - in drum rack module, you can set all evelopes, filter and even FX individual per PAD ? Roland nailed it with the sp404 mk2 USB. It can be powered from the USB AND send audio back and forwards. Most phones do not have a headphone out like their demo. A single usb would be far better
You can also double-tap a step key in Loop Select mode to select a single bar, same as on Push. I think I used Push 1 for 5 years before I realized this was an option...

The MOVE is sketch pad device that is meant to get the music creation process started within the Ableton Live environment. It's limitations is its superpower. A ton of new songs will be created because of this device.
@12:13 I ran into this almost immediately because I kept messing up the starts of recordings 😅 I’d mess up on the 1 of bar 1 and have to totally re-record it or try to fix it with step edit which was tedious to get the human feel I was enjoying. You can nudge notes and nudge multiple at once but it’s tedious and you can’t move more notes than are in the bar. Hopefully something they can patch.
Okay, so yeah the Ableton integration is it's USP off course. But the sounds seem to blow most of the competition away too. The synths on the Circuit are meh at best. Yes, please And I'd also use those MPE pads to play all my other synths and samplers.
why cant you turn on the drum sampler and run a mic and sing into a slot you get 16 bars. seems like it would fine. make each slot a different 16 bars and set them off one at time and you got vocals.
I’m not familiar with ableton hardware. Do they give it good support and lots of updates? Can we expect continual new features like new global effects and such to be added to this during its lifetime or is it just what it is at birth?
Yep. They still support Push 1 and updated the Push 2 not long ago. Push 2 was supported for over a decade and 3 gets regular updates. I think the move is safe.
Don't think it's meant to be integrated into the studio. It's meant to be used by itself (not saying that's a good thing). Really wish it had trs midi in and out.
Can you chain drum patterns? I make grime/drill beats at 140bpm. In one pattern i place a snare on the 9th step. And on another pattern i place a snare on the 13th step and chain them together so the secend pattern plays after the first. I currently use a teenage engineering po-33. Create multiple variations of drum patterns and chain them together. Is this possible on the move?
I don’t know. I’d put my $700 aud towards a Push 3 instead, if ever I was to contemplate that thing. Interconnectivity seems really half baked. It really is just a tool for Ableton, and that’s all
Really don't understand they didn't just add trs midi in/out, but that they limited USB midi to in or out is baffling. You were looking at it the same as I did, I really hoped this thing could complement my setup with 4 polysynths and a really nice touch surface, but then it does need to send and receive midi, just like any device from after 1980...
I mean even that can be quite a bummer. As my polyendplay+ has both midi in trough usb (but it needs power, this is hardly useful), and trs (with breakout). But most modern smaller portable midi controllers (which are the ones you'd wanna use with such a device) only have usb midi and no TRS.
I have the 101, never get rid of this box. It’s essentially the entire Roland sound engine in a portable box. It is quirky and it takes some getting used to. If the Move is grabbing your attention, I’d add it to your setup but keep the 101. The move looks to be adding that incredibly quick ‘from idea to song’ workflow, and since the 101 has midi/usb capabilities it would be simple to output from the move to the 101 via usb with the move set to midi out. If anything, the tr-6s is kinda redundant. It’s simple to use one of the 101’s 4 tracks as a drum machine.
For me Move a breakthrough comparing to Circuits (and MV1). No sample per note/pattern. I can do notes recording and messing with sound at any point it just changes for the whole song. 🎉
No one needs a “mobile” device. I’ve been there and thought I would use an organelle or op z outdoors. It never happens. The move will sit on your desk right next to your Push. If you have the impulse to do something when you’re out and about there are plenty of iPhone apps for a short capture session, i.e Note.

@@faganwilcox2443 moreover, they do different things depending upon what your have selected up front, e.g. drum rack, effect, clip screen, etc. to label them would require a fold-out chart.
Do you think you could link this to Koala as a controller. Im going to get one to use as a portable sketch pad as well as use it to control live instead of the push 2 ( because it has some faults now ). Because of its lack of time stretching audio I was thinking i could launch stuff from Koala, this would be for live performance while DJing. For drumming but also loops and vocals. Even stems, CDJs lack of these function makes Koala handy.
Yeah i have the push 2, it's having issues though, the move looks like its a more compact push but looking at it the functions are very similar. Obviously standalone is 4 track but in controller mode what differences are there. Also I could use it for Koala as its midi out capable, id just have to set it up to do so in Koala unless they have locked off its midi out functionality.

this dude only make borin 4:4 takt video,he doesn t know anything else....
It’s what I love! House music baby, let’s groooove
I thought Ableton was going to give us a knobs and sliders controller (Move) to compliment Push. I was disappointed to see this drop. A poor man's Push really.
Grab an akai APC 40mk2 and plug it into the usb port on the push 3. Best controller by a long way for sliders and knobs. Criminal Akai discontinued it.
Riddle me this, i can buy a device that has a big, nice touch screen, it takes photos and videos, it makes music, it takes notes, it has internet, BT, wiFi, usb c, and the list just goes on and on...or i can buy this thing, that doesnt do anything but come short everywhere😂....what to do 🤔
It's a musical instrument not a do-it-all computer.
@@faganwilcox2443 you dont say?
Wow, id never guessed that....
The point is, how in the hell is it so goddamn limited, when my phone is not, my phone costs the same, is way smaller, and yet is million miles ahead of this thing?
You do realize it is runnin on the exact same chips that our phones do, you calling it a "musical instrument" and saying it is not a "do it all computer" is extremely ignorant.
@va941 where is the music you made with your phone then
@va941 btw, why make that ‘point’ when it’s very obvious already and this isn’t trying to sell a million features but instead a quick and intuitive workflow. You could say that about any sampler
@@faganwilcox2443 irrelevant to the point.
What's the point of the encoders? They don't have any labels so I guess the only way to find out what you're controlling is to touch each of them one by one, check the screen and try and remember. Seems a ridiculous design.
There are so many pieces of gear like this and it's not difficult at all to tap a button or memorize 8 things. That's why weird complaint.
Incredibly useful in actual usage.
It's not hard to remember 8 things when learning an instrument. Do you need everything labelled for you in life like a child?
@@faganwilcox2443 moreover, they do different things depending upon what your have selected up front, e.g. drum rack, effect, clip screen, etc. to label them would require a fold-out chart.
Labels lock the encoders tot aht function otherwise. Having none allows them to change function
Push 2 is far far better than this as a controller for live. I’ve got the move and it’s a 4 track hardware version of the note IOS software.
