I listened to a recording at a NY airport near the Twin Towers on 9/11. It was a female ATC. She was alerting each commercial pilot of a "situation" and directing them on parking, taxiing and takeoffs. The airport was very backed up. She was so polite, respectful, calming and capable. Not one incident under the circumstances.
I am sure glad Biden and Obama know how to act with decency and respect.

I'm a retired Naval Aviator, Navy accident investigator, and retired Delta Captain.
It's way too early... but I would guess when the tower asked the helo if they had the airliner in sight, the helo probably said yes to the jet taking off on rwy 1, and didn't see the American jet circling to land on rwy 33.
And there are a ton of lights to deal with in that area... (I was always against multiple rwy ops at Reagan... especially at night... just not enough airspace and very short rwys).
Bottom line, I believe the helo will be found at fault.
This had zero to do with any policies.
The Helo was limited to 200 feet in that airspace. They went to 400 just before the collision.
I have had to deal with background lights of a city in two dimensions on a sailboat. I can only imagine how tough it would be in 3 dimensions at much higher speeds. I also guessed the same issue with seeing the plane taking off.
I completely agree. That plane was coming in for a landing and had been cleared to do so. A large plane can't just quickly get out of the way, but a helicopter can. They can maneuver vertically in a way that no plane can. I also find it extremely odd that the military can't find a better place with less restricted air space to run their training sessions.
Im not a government worker but that new "executive order" was the phoniest bit of theatrics I've seen since the garbage truck stunt.

I think it would be fair to say that it’s difficult to find another U.S. president, in the history of that country, who has created so much discord, fear, distress, uncertainty and hate among its general populace - and abroad, in such a short amount of time.
Humans make mistakes. Machines have failures. I figure the pilot flying a plan I'm on wants to get home safely just as much as I do. and I feel safe flying. We risk accidents all of the time. Using a tragedy to be even more cruel and divisive than DT usually is is absolutely sickening. My heart hurts for all of the families and friends of the victims. At the moment that is what matters. The cause will be investigated, but that won't bring the dead back or ease the pain the families are suffering. A president with common sense, or any sense, would show empathy and not look for ways to cause more hurt. He's a miserable little troll.

I'm the mother of a 32 year old autistic daughter, who cannot live by herself. She's had a cancer diagnosis and, thanks to Medicaid, was able to have a mastectomy and treatment to make another cancer diagnosis less likely. If Medicaid or the ACA are overturned, I will not be able to get her insured which may be a death sentence. As far as the idiot Kennedy goes, I have no use for him and neither do other parents of people on the spectrum. He's as bad as Trump when it comes to ego and honesty,

I feel with you. My daughter was born severly handicapped and we went through hell and back. I took her when she was two and moved to Europe, found a job, enrolled in health insurance and even though we had to fight for certain medical things, she was well provided for. The american doctors told me, in the delivery room, not to look at her, but put her in a home, because she would never be more than a vegetable. My little broccoli was fluent in three languages, went to college, worked for the police department and bought her own house. She was the most wonderful person I ever had in my life. Sadly she died of an extremely aggressive cancer at the age of 29. I couldn't have had these 27 years had it not been for this move. She was six years old, when I was finished paying the loan I had to take for her medical expenses in the USA that the insurance then - in the USA - did not cover.

THE TULSI GABBARD V SNOWDEN PARADOX
Regarding Tulsi’s inability to call out Snowden as a traitor was very odd and peculiar, especially for a former servicewoman and given the position she is vying for. The hearing revealed that she is extremely conflicted by her loyalty, is it to the U.S., to Trump, to Putin, to the U.S. Constitution? This simple question solidified Tulsi’s internal conflict to whom she devotes her loyalty … so, let’s explore her possible rationale given her answers, non-answers, Republican talking points, and demeanor:
1. To be sure, Tulsi has always been an enigma. The first time I heard her give a press conference, I immediately suspected her loyalty to the country. Could she be a true, unabashed patriot and believe that Snowden simply exposed the sinister side of the NSA that needed to be exposed? Hence, she does feel that he is a hero and was brave for exposing America’s secrets.
2. Based on the facts to date, and with the full benefit of hindsight and the myriad of investigations into him to date; it SHOULD be unequivocal that Snowden committed and was indicted for espionage, provided documents to a foreign adversarial power, and therefore, he committed treason just from the simplest of definitions, yet she could not bring herself to call Snowden a traitor multiple times. But, from Tulsi’s perspective, the jury is still out on Snowden’s actions and alignment with Putin and Russia as being “traitorous”.
3. If however, Tulsi thought that calling him a traitor could or would cast Russia in a bad or negative light since he became a Russian citizen, then why would she care about Russia’s or Putin’s “feelings”?
4. If, however, your boss [Trump] had an affinity and love for Putin/Russia, and saying that Snowden was a traitor would cast aversions and disrespect upon Putin/Russia, and that it would upset Trump, then she might refrain from bridging or connecting “traitor” and Russia in the same breath.
5. Now, here is the rub… this woman is applying for a job, and unless you get the job, she cannot fulfill her agenda, or that of her handlers [Trump and the GOP or in this case Putin]. Whether Tulsi was attempting to appease Trump or Putin to carry out their respective schemes via Tulsi in the intelligence chief position, it would first be necessary to secure the position; hence, most people, to land the job would have answered in the affirmative to ensure that she got the job, right? But Tulsi did not do that nor say what senators wanted her to say, not even to Republican senators, so why continue to be cagey with a softball question as to Snowden’s current global status: traitor?
6. So, again, why did Tulsi not answer the simplest of questions during her confirmation? Because she is in grave conflict, and THAT if for no other reason is a reason to keep this woman as far away from the intelligence chief as humanly possible!

Listen, one thing I love about United is that they let you listen to the pilot and handoffs on the way and listening to the local tower bring your pilot in. I love it, and am amazed at the pros in both sides of the microphone. I have been in and out of DCA countless times!! I alway found it so weird when we'd takeoff and go right over the Pentagon. Or, coming in btw Crystal City & The Pentagon. The District and its suburbs grew too much and too fast. But going to Andrew's by crossing over flight paths seems crazy to me, esp at night. The Pentagon should give DCA a wide berth!!
