I can honestly say I have never been so moved by an actresses' performance or a character as I am with Bea Smith. She has got to be one of the most poetic and tragic characters to ever be written.. right from the pilot to the season 4 finale. This is one fictional character who will ALWAYS stay with me all because of Danielle's A-M-A-Z-I-N-G performance and the briliant writers. I think the only other one would be Walter White from Breaking Bad. Both of them just feel so real and relatable and you see them naturally progress. Walter was more about choice but Bea was basically just dealt a really bad hand right from the abusive husband to being thrown in the bin.. she initially was there for a relatively shorter sentence and as a battered woman but because she gets in Jacs' crosshairs, the only thing she has to live for (Debbie) dies and she becomes a ruthless killer. Then she has a lifetime to serve and is just "Queen Bea" or the top dog and unfortunately falls in love with Allie who she also believes to have died. Again, it is just pure tragedy after tragedy for Bea. A character like this is usually unbearable but due to the sheer charisma and talent of the actress, she will remain THE number 1 female protagonist of all-time in my heart. Thank you so much, Danielle!

I’m not an emotional person but this destroyed me, even after she was able to find real love with Allie that gave her something to look forward to after Debbie 😢 That speaks to the talent and raw emotion Danielle was able to bring to this character. The show has been okay since she left but no where near the heights of seasons 1-4.

I didn't think they would kill Bea off so soon, the idea behind Wentworth is Bea Smiths story and in all honesty its far to soon to be thinking of killing her off. I'm hopping they have Bea fighting for her life and in the season finale return to Wentworth setting up season 6 for Bea's return for top dog story. If Bea isn't in season 5 I think I will call it quits on this show and watching something else and judging the comments around the net this seems to be the same for most of the fans.
For me, the most important character is Joan Ferguson. Just like Jim Fenner was in Bad Girls, you need the ultimate villain to keep the show interesting and so you have someone to root against or else it's just happy happy and no thrills.

But Danielle 's portrayal of Bea Smith captured and drew me in from the beginning. Being from the UK I'd not heard of her, or indeed, any other cast members. Over the last 4 seasons I have been astounded over and over again by the quality of each major cast members character portrayal. Totally believable and the writing, well, what can I say???? Intense, tragic, beautiful, Bea and Allie finally coming together. And to top it all the heartbreaking end!!! Who would have thought that, all those years ago, Prisoner Cell Block H, an unknown quantity from Australia would today become Wentworth and shown in over 90 countries around the world. The stories, the characters may be fictional but they portray real people, real lives that so many, way far to many, can relate too. I applaud you all 👏👏👏👏💞💞

The show started with Bea and it should have ended with Bea. The show is after all her journey in Wentworth. I don't disagree with how her character ended up but the timing was so so wrong.

A new intake is needed for the next season, Marie's powerless now, Kaz is dead, Ferguson gone, even Kosta died lol. theres no one i can think of for early drama against Rita who presumably will now be Top Dog. Am so glad the Freak is alive! though i expect she'll be out of prison for at least a chunk of the series - is it just me thinking she orchestrated Murphys blackmail plot? if Ferguson comes back with Rita as top dog i can see her killing Ruby, or Allie dying to save Ruby maybe. i love wentworth, one of the few shows where all the possibilities catch my imagination.

I read an interview recently where Danielle Cormack spoke as if she were in the show indefinitely and that there was no place she'd rather be. If there is indeed a tragic ending I think it will be in regard to her being alone. I don't think that Allie will die because Kate Jenkinson said there was the potential to return in season 5. But that relationship may have to end for some reason. This season was supposed to be about Bea exploring her "sensuality" according to articles with Cormack. That doesn't mean a permanent relationship though. Bea may be left end of season with "No one to love and nothing to look forward to"... certainly tragic. I hope not. No one deserves to be that miserable for life.

'tragic hero', we don't know. Series hasn't been written in its entirety. Bea deserves some breaks on her sentence. Didn't she save some lives in the fire? She provided information about Joan to get her convicted. She could be eligible for a commutation. We'll see.
i just finished season 4 yesterday and I don’t think i can finish the show because Bea is no longer a part of it. i’m in distraught and heartbroken because of Bea’s death even thought it isn’t in real life.. but it felt so real. the role Bea plays in Wentworth was the best and I feel like she deserved a much better ending and I feel like they wasted her. i saw at the end that she pushed the knife into her stomach when Ferguson was trying to kill her, so she must’ve felt that it was her time to go and she couldn’t live in agony anymore. the show won’t be the same without Bea; she was the main character and couldn’t compare to any other characters. her story.. all that she has gone through, she still continued to stay the strong and independent woman she was. all I have to say is that Wentworth ended when Bea died.i never thought I could get so attached to a character/actress from a show until Bea (Danielle). I love Danielle so much and I hope I could meet her in real life someday and tell her what a wonderful, beautiful, powerful and inspiring leader/woman she is and how much she means to me. and also, all the good she does for this world too, is just amazing. we need more people in this world like Danielle. but man has this woman left a mark on my life after watching this show (well at least the first four seasons). you’re gifted, Danielle! ❤️❤️❤️
She did, self induced by allowing Ferguson to kill her in the final, then Allie wakes up, Bea ferguson rammed the screw driver and twist until Bea was dead, she dies the Hero, Ferguson an know go down for murder, she was set free, jake helped her killed the witness, so Bea confronted Ferguson as she was being let go out the back door, Checkmate for Bea.

Perhaps by tragic she means Bea sacrifices herself in some other way for the people she loves? IE maybe she kills Ferguson thus doubling her life sentence with no chance of parole EVER. Or maybe she takes the fall for something so that Allie and the RRH get out earlier than expected.
Well, she didn't say at the end of the season, but at the end of the series. I think it is fitting for Bea to die in the last episode of the last season, as it is indeed, a tragic story. And let's not forget the show could go on for a few more seasons, so nothing to worry about at this stage :) . Hopefully, Bea will find hope and be happy in the meantime!
Indeed, as Ferguson said it, there are only 2 choices in prison, and it is to age old or to die... I'd rather have Bea go out in a blast of glory (sacrificing herself for her friends;.?) than die alone years after everyone got out.

Oh it is definitely possible. But I don't believe either Bea nor Allie are going to die this season, so there is some hope for now. And I believe that Bea is indeed a tragic hero, as she would sacrifice herself for her friends in a heartbeat. That doesn't mean she will die anytime soon.

I have a different reading of what Bea says about being "the tragic hero." Is not that Bea will die. Let's think that at some point she will know that Allie saved her and then came Mr. Jackson. That will make the relationship between them recompose. Bea will maybe put some distance or pretend she don't feel anything more than friendship for Allie, but that's only for protection. Bea needs to stay strong and empowered. She can't be weak, given the circumstances. The drawings we see on the walls, probably belong to the end of the season. One (and Bea) only puts on the walls the important things. That means that Allie, will join the group of important people for her. The reason I think "tragic hero" means that she will put her feelings in pause, is that all these people will leave prison at some point, while Bea is doomed for life. Nothing would break her heart more than to fall in love with someone who will not be with her forever, and seeing her friends walk free. I think Bea will have the attitude of sacrificing her feelings, not her life. The "tragic hero" who pretends to be strong and not show feelings, to save others and her own heart.
Bea as the tragic hero, telling Franky that it was nice to see Debbie, that she is tired and plus I read in one interview that D.C. said she likes to leave things while they are high....I´m sure Bea will die, sacrifice herself for the others, Allie....to get peace....sucks majorly, being gay is really dangerous this year on tv...sometimes in real life too, we don´t get fairy tales :(

Seems like she knew Allie somehow managed to wakeup from comma after years as Allie was not dead, she made a deal with Vera to combat Joan, how she got herself killed while she did not attended real funeral of Allie, so it was very very bogus ending for Bea Smith, we want her back as Allie is alive and making every chance to be alive to be with the powerful one always so she is in protection always, she should have commited suicide after taking revenge on Joan, why she is still alive, why??

The show started with Bea and it should have ended with Bea. The show is after all her journey in Wentworth. I don't disagree with how her character ended up but the timing was so so wrong.
Or, they should have ended the show with her. For instance: Bea dies, Ferguson rots in prison, the End.

I understand the need to move forward, but the last season was missing something for me, the Marie, Ruby and Rita story i didnt enjoy so much, except the siege.
A new intake is needed for the next season, Marie's powerless now, Kaz is dead, Ferguson gone, even Kosta died lol. theres no one i can think of for early drama against Rita who presumably will now be Top Dog.
Am so glad the Freak is alive! though i expect she'll be out of prison for at least a chunk of the series - is it just me thinking she orchestrated Murphys blackmail plot?
if Ferguson comes back with Rita as top dog i can see her killing Ruby, or Allie dying to save Ruby maybe.

She's a good actress and I remember when Bea died I feel so sad it's not anymore complete Allie's other half support energy gone.
I read an interview recently where Danielle Cormack spoke as if she were in the show indefinitely and that there was no place she'd rather be. If there is indeed a tragic ending I think it will be in regard to her being alone. I don't think that Allie will die because Kate Jenkinson said there was the potential to return in season 5. But that relationship may have to end for some reason. This season was supposed to be about Bea exploring her "sensuality" according to articles with Cormack. That doesn't mean a permanent relationship though. Bea may be left end of season with "No one to love and nothing to look forward to"... certainly tragic. I hope not. No one deserves to be that miserable for life.

'tragic hero', we don't know. Series hasn't been written in its entirety. Bea deserves some breaks on her sentence. Didn't she save some lives in the fire? She provided information about Joan to get her convicted. She could be eligible for a commutation. We'll see.

i just finished season 4 yesterday and I don’t think i can finish the show because Bea is no longer a part of it. i’m in distraught and heartbroken because of Bea’s death even thought it isn’t in real life.. but it felt so real. the role Bea plays in Wentworth was the best and I feel like she deserved a much better ending and I feel like they wasted her. i saw at the end that she pushed the knife into her stomach when Ferguson was trying to kill her, so she must’ve felt that it was her time to go and she couldn’t live in agony anymore. the show won’t be the same without Bea; she was the main character and couldn’t compare to any other characters. her story.. all that she has gone through, she still continued to stay the strong and independent woman she was. all I have to say is that Wentworth ended when Bea died.i never thought I could get so attached to a character/actress from a show until Bea (Danielle). I love Danielle so much and I hope I could meet her in real life someday and tell her what a wonderful, beautiful, powerful and inspiring leader/woman she is and how much she means to me. and also, all the good she does for this world too, is just amazing. we need more people in this world like Danielle. but man has this woman left a mark on my life after watching this show (well at least the first four seasons). you’re gifted, Danielle! ❤️❤️❤️

She did, self induced by allowing Ferguson to kill her in the final, then Allie wakes up, Bea ferguson rammed the screw driver and twist until Bea was dead, she dies the Hero, Ferguson an know go down for murder, she was set free, jake helped her killed the witness, so Bea confronted Ferguson as she was being let go out the back door, Checkmate for Bea.

Perhaps by tragic she means Bea sacrifices herself in some other way for the people she loves? IE maybe she kills Ferguson thus doubling her life sentence with no chance of parole EVER. Or maybe she takes the fall for something so that Allie and the RRH get out earlier than expected.

Well, she didn't say at the end of the season, but at the end of the series. I think it is fitting for Bea to die in the last episode of the last season, as it is indeed, a tragic story. And let's not forget the show could go on for a few more seasons, so nothing to worry about at this stage :) . Hopefully, Bea will find hope and be happy in the meantime!
I completely agree with you. I think it would be an injustice to her character for her to slowly age away and die in prison.
Indeed, as Ferguson said it, there are only 2 choices in prison, and it is to age old or to die... I'd rather have Bea go out in a blast of glory (sacrificing herself for her friends;.?) than die alone years after everyone got out.
It's important to note though that what we call 'seasons' in America, places like Australia and the U.K. call 'series'. I believe she's talking about the end of this season 4.
Oh it is definitely possible. But I don't believe either Bea nor Allie are going to die this season, so there is some hope for now. And I believe that Bea is indeed a tragic hero, as she would sacrifice herself for her friends in a heartbeat. That doesn't mean she will die anytime soon.

I absolutely love Wentworth I have the DVD box set.
I have a different reading of what Bea says about being "the tragic hero." Is not that Bea will die. Let's think that at some point she will know that Allie saved her and then came Mr. Jackson. That will make the relationship between them recompose. Bea will maybe put some distance or pretend she don't feel anything more than friendship for Allie, but that's only for protection. Bea needs to stay strong and empowered. She can't be weak, given the circumstances. The drawings we see on the walls, probably belong to the end of the season. One (and Bea) only puts on the walls the important things. That means that Allie, will join the group of important people for her. The reason I think "tragic hero" means that she will put her feelings in pause, is that all these people will leave prison at some point, while Bea is doomed for life. Nothing would break her heart more than to fall in love with someone who will not be with her forever, and seeing her friends walk free. I think Bea will have the attitude of sacrificing her feelings, not her life. The "tragic hero" who pretends to be strong and not show feelings, to save others and her own heart.

kandy Yeah i watched oitnb before i knew of wentworth and the end of season 1 i think when piper beat up the other girl i was thinking this could get dark even though comedic. after that i was just completely disappointed with oitnb.

She always admitted none of these inmates are my friends but then she got life after Allie and then she sacrificed herself for nothing, S4 last episode Bea to Vera, "Allie is not gonna wakeup, so make it murder". Seems like she knew Allie somehow managed to wakeup from comma after years as Allie was not dead, she made a deal with Vera to combat Joan, how she got herself killed while she did not attended real funeral of Allie, so it was very very bogus ending for Bea Smith, we want her back as Allie is alive and making every chance to be alive to be with the powerful one always so she is in protection always, she should have commited suicide after taking revenge on Joan, why she is still alive, why??
