There has to be a culture shift, but how do we do that when so many African American youth have been poorly educated. I come from Helena, he calls "helltown." It was not helltown when I lived there from 1959 to 1974 long before this beautiful brother was born. It was segregated, and the black people there took great pride in their homes and few business. Ronald Reagan (1980s) and his gang brought crack cocaine into our communities that had lost factories to overseas cheap labor. And we didn't know what hit us. It wasn't long before gangsta rap began glorifying the thug life and drug culture, of which my young brother here is perpetuating. But it's time for a culture shift. It's time to remove the veil of ignorance from our sisters and brothers' eyes. They must learn about Marcus Garvey, who said "Up you mighty race, you can accomplish what you will." We are the original people that were kidnapped from Africa, and brought here to enrich Europeans. If you don't know your purpose, someone will use you for their purpose. As a boy, I chopped cotton and soybeans in the very fields of Tunica, Clarksdale, Southland, Marvel, and other places in Arkansas, the same fields my grandparents and great grandparents' worked in. When modern machines were built to harvest these produce, white land owners didn't need Negroes anymore. So they give them drugs, liquor, guns, and a poor education, and make them think they are gangsters. We are annihilating ourselves. Who needs the KKK. We'll do the job for them. Our music has always been a ticket to somewhere better. I know because I'm an artist too. But knowledge is power, and when we load our music with knowledge like we load our guns with bullets, we can kill ignorance. ONE LOVE!!
