A Rustic Remnant - A visit to the Old Church in Preston Candover, Hampshire

- How can I ramble on for over eight minutes about what is only a fragment of a medieval church building? Well this fragment, the chancel of the Old Church at Preston Candover in Hampshire, and inside are some lovely things: brasses, tablets set against pink distemper walls, and some medieval floor tiles - but the church just has a lovely, timeless atmosphere and that makes it a bit special. I hope you enjoy the video.

Truly delightful little medieval church remnant full of so many wonderful medieval and 17th and 18th century remnants, additions and alterations. Such a lovely mini tour, thank you as always Allan!
Beautiful, especially the Elizabethian brass and the Waterman minister of 59 years. May the Lord our God remember all of them in His heavenly kingdom.
It is a wonderful place Bob, so much packed into a tiny space.
Your annotated tours of these astonishing relics are wonderful, but the delight in your voice is everything. Thank you so much for all these videographic gems…the collection is quite a set of antiquarian crown jewels.
Lovely little tour, much appreciated
Glad you enjoyed it
I agree; a delightful little church ⛪ .

Thank you - greetings from England. I am pleased you like the video, such a special place.
@@allanbarton I really wish i could go there and visit these beautiful historic places one day.
@@MrAdeelpervez Me too. 🇺🇲
Beautiful church. Thanks for filming it in such detail. I love the window that overlooks where the altar would have been.
It is stunning little building.
It really is as you say... a delightful little church.
I love the tiles, the artwork and designs on them Aswell as the carved wood piece and the windows.
I wish I could just go and sit in there. It seems a very peaceful spot. I could hear the mourning doves in the background while you were speaking. I love to hear them.
Thank you for sharing.
It is a delightful spot - when I was there it was warm, but also gently raining and the sound of the birds was transporting.
The mixture of stone, brick and flint is absolutely gorgeous. The interior especially the floor also a treat. As a matter of interest, there are delft tiles built into the external walls of one of the ancient halls located in the College area of the Anglican Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. All an artist’s delight!
I used to live in Walsingham and had forgotten those - this church has the same sort of visual feeling to Milner's shrine church - the simple materials, red brick with lots of colour.
I am delighted to discover your channel. You tube must know that Ilove medieval English history and art ,because you popped up on my screen tonight.. I wish your tour had been longer. I am curious about the stained glass window, is it the original glass? If so, it is miraculous that it escaped the cultural terrorism of the reformation. I am also curious about the inscription on the wall above the window., i could only see part of it and your camera moved on. Thank you for your ministry and work. I will now proceed to enjoy all of your videos. from NWWA State, USA 🇺🇸🌲🌲 God bless you 🙏🌹✝️
UA-cam is clever like that, knowing what you want! I will have to check my photos and get back to you with that - I can't remember what it was off the top of my head. Thanks for your kind comments.
Prarieborn: I agree

Can back editions of your magazine be ordered somewhere?
Yes, all the back issues are available here in print or digital format. www.antiquarystore.com/collections/the-antiquary-magazine
I think it is terribly sad that these medieval churches were/are returned to their rightful owners to be maintained as they were intended.
Fascinating and a delightful building. But PLEASE could you keep the camera much stiller and actually focus on what you're talking about, rather than keep it moving all the time? I'm afraid constantly moving videos like this just make me seasick and I can't watch for more than 2 or 3 minutes. Thank you.
Watch my last few videos Linda, I've upgraded my equipment and technique. This has been a wonderful learning process for me.
@@allanbarton Fantastic! I'll certainly watch the latest videos, and have been loving the history ones (Father Christmas, the Coronation Chair etc).
