This song was always in the background during Blue Whale scenes ... it truly was No. 1 at the Blue Whale for the entire run of the show. Fills me with nostalgia hearing it.
This was my Fave song at The Blue Whale but where is the video of Maggie and Joe dancing to this song it was their song always! Beautiful I love it! Listening on June 16th Father’s Day 2019 🥰♥️💙
Don't get too sad, it pulls you down deep into murkiness. Fight it, do good things, keep positive, stay busy, help others. I am very sorry for your troubles. Be there for your cousin as best you can; illness can become a very lonesome thing to go through. Oh, and America will be okay. Don't put so much on your shoulders-- life's too brief.
This along with Quentin's Theme are the two prettiest musical compositions in Dark Shadows. Kudos to Robert Cobert and his orchestra for the marvelous music they provided in the one of the most amazing tv series ever made.
@ Viraf Karai. I totally agree that "Number1 At The Blue Whale" and "Quentin's Theme" are two of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written for any TV series of any genre in the history of TV entertainment! Robert Covert has never gotten the credit for his brilliant music composition work in the horror genre of TV shows and films like John Barry, John Williams, Henry Mancini, Jules Stein, Hans J. Salter et. al., have received for the sheer brilliance of their music compositions!
How can anyone in their right mind give a "thumbs down" review to Robert Cobert's magnificent piece of music "Number 1 At The Blue Whale" ???????? This gorgeous piece of music is the best piece of music from the original "Dark Shadows" soap opera. Cobert's other music (not just for "Dark Shadows" but also for the made - for- TV movies "The Night Stalker" , "The Night Strangler", "Dracula", "Dr. Jekyll and Mr.Hyde" and "Trilogy Of Terror") including the superb theme music from "Dark Shadows" is fantastic as well!
@ Chris Goodwin. Yes Robert Cobert composed the music for the Dan Curtis 1976 horror/mystery movie, "Burnt Offerings". Unfortunately, the movie was a box office flop because it only grossed 1.56 million dollars and its' budget was 2 million dollars. A theatrical movie has to gross three times its' budget just to break even financially.
I love this Blue Whale song better than the other other 'harder rock' one. It's really beautiful and has ties to '50s Doo Wop that I really LOVE now. Turning 61 in 2018 I grew up in the era after that and kind of looked down on it. Boy was I wrong. It's great music. In fact songs like 'Crocodile Rock' and 'For the Longest Time' in the 1970's and 80's were heavily rooted in Doo Wop.
Well said, Sir. Completely agree. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Love Doo Wop myself and definitely reminds me of that era of music. The best music, in my opinion.
ajpecoraro99 That is Amazing, and I know how you feel. ♥️ I did this too with Percy Faith’s, Theme from A Summer Place, my cousin and I wrote the beautiful words to it, I too was not able to publish it as I was a teen in high school in the early 60’s but I have them saved still. I let someone hear it and they were astonished! I feel bad every time I think of it, as these lyrics went perfectly and romantically with the song and movie! 🥰♥️
I had to throw this into my Surf & Instrumental mix. Such a cool and moody song, and technically Collinsport is a "Surf Town" although I wouldn't advise it.
Yeah, that would be some Xtreme surfing, where you earn extra points if you can avoid the surf smashing you against the jutting, jagged rocks that line the shore.
Blue Whale: the only entertainment option in Collinsport 😂 The vampires spiced the things a bit...I only thought that 10 seasons later it was the same music 😅 loved it anyway.
@@secondcomingofbast9908 yeah, I guess one too many bourbons and he didn't show up one day for the taping. I just watched that episode ... he was supposed to have a long scene at the Blue Whale where he and Vicky discussed their shared concerns about Carolyn and "Buzz" ... Joe Haskell had to jump into the scene at the last minute and deliver Blake's dialog- no time to rewrite the scene.
@newrochellephoenix GOOD eyes-I have the Dark Shadows Reunion disc and they have the full video-my kids cant believe people used to serve like that guy-I remember as a kid they DID! lol
+BigDavey I couldn’t stand Angelique. That character I just wanted to slap her and have somebody get rid of her for good. Beautiful actressbut I was never a fan of her whining 200 yrs later still hooked on Barnabas. Too bad in 1795 wasn’t yet published the book “ He’s just not that into you” 😂
@ brownies4you. The sound of the tambourine on the LP version of the Dark Shadows' song ''#1 At The Blue Whale'' does not detract at all from the song, but ,on the contrary, beautifully enhances the song. Most likely the reason that the tambourine sound on that song cannot be heard on any Dark Shadows' episode is that it may have been played on the TV episodes using monaural equipment.
@@alexmeisner7245 He actuay played a song once that was a major hit at the time and had even been on some movie. I don't remember what it was now. It may have been Love Is Blue. If not, it was something very similar.
Hey, Dark Shadows fans, what are some of your favorite things about the show? Share the minutiae here (reply to this comment) ... it can be anything, a little moment, a favorite line, whatever you like.
one moment that always makes me laugh when I think of it came during the first season. Mrs. Johnson was new at Collinwood and used to smoke in the kitchen when she thought no one was around. David caught her and sarcastically said, "Oh, I didn't know you were allowed to smoke while you're working." She never smoked again on the show. David Henesy was such a good little actor. Always knew his lines (better than some of the adults!)
The original version of this sweet ballad (used during the show) is prettier. It offered the song without the tambourine. The tambourine is a touch on the overdone side.

I hadn't heard this in decades and I'd forgotten how much I love this instrumental.
My favorite from the Blue Whale
This really hits me in the feels. Such sweet nostalgia. Thank God for this show.
This was one of my favorite songs from the series.
Reminds me a little of 'This Boy' from The Beatles or even the George Martin orchestrations from 'A Hard Days Night Soundtrack', love this track.
I agree. I was thinking it reminded me of that beautiful Beatles' song!

Perfect for when you' re feeling down. One of my cousins might die soon from cancer, and America is crumbling, so I'm pretty sad.

Great song...great memories.
The music is very romantic and very sweet. I love it.
Ahhh, the memories come flooding back! Loved this song when I was a child. I had such a crush on Quentin!

@Viraf Karai AND @Michael Barlow: Don't forget to add to that list - of prettiest compositions - "Josette's Theme."

Love this tune from my favorite composer, Robert Cobert on my favorite show, DARK SHADOWS!
I still have this LP.
Quentin’s Theme will always be my favorite Dark Shadows song but I could SO see myself dancing to this song with my husband. Very romantic
My folks had this LP and the only reason is cuz my older sister liked it. lol

It fits perfectly as a song that would still be on a jukebox in an out of the way little town in the Beatles/Rolling Stones era.
I wrote lyrics to this instrumental back in 1971 but my dreams of ever getting them published is probably next to impossible.

if you have Amazon Prime you can watch Dark Shadows

be sure to buy Sam Evans a drink - he's sure to be there!
there's a jazz club in l.a. aptly called the blue whale.

This is good stuff! But I think some of the other, more upbeat songs are better. Especially the ones that Carolyn can dance to!
