@@yansculpts Not necessarily as the headset output and screen output can be fully independent from one another depending on the VR application (unless you mirror one of the headset eyes to the screen), but yeah. For instance, you could have left the reference on the Oculus Dashboard which doesn't render to the screen. Not saying you did that, just clearing up that that's a definite possibility.

@Rtas Vadumee We ALWAYS draw with reference, either is on the sides of your current work, or directly printed on your brain. Makes no difference if you ask me. You make your own visual library with time but regardless what I'm trying to say here is that you ALWAYS need to use reference! never stop doing that as you will be always be improving your visual library (one of the most critical/important tools for any artist) Nothing is created from thin air.

But you're right! We always use references because we create one inside out head! But some people cannot do that due to something that they have! So we can, but some may need to see a character to remember it.

GutsRage I always thought of drawing without a reference/sculpting without a reference is a sign of a certain level of mastery. Obviously some people have advantages with memory or whatever but the amount of hours put in to accurately portray a human being/animal in any pose or gesture without a (external) reference shows mastery. My opinion though

We're likely never going to see anything that will reach that level of touch fidelity. The haptics we see today are decades away from what would be needed for something like clay sculpting to feel "right". Our fingertips are so sensitive, and creating a surface that changes along with what you're touching in VR is just not doable. There needs to be some brain trickery involved for something like that. And even then I think it would be unsatisfactory.

    • @solojo13

@@vgaportauthority9932 There's no way that I can agree with you on that... Just look at how far development has grown from Atari/Basic to today's VR & Digital Augmentation. We are mainly held back by corporations milking each iteration of technology for maximized profit, but technological evolution is continuing to grow exponentially. "Never" no longer has practical application for innovation. We will have realistic sculpting capabilities much sooner than many realize.

Even though every tech upgrade makes you realize the problems you missed in the last generation it also makes you miss the qualities you didn’t realize were there. Digital mediums have styles and qualities that vary as deeply as traditional mediums. How much we really get out of either is the depth of the nuance of expression that can be found in that medium. This is one of those areas where we’re going to find new ways to approach and appreciate existing forms both as they are and for new and emergent qualities. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by that, but it is one small part of the cutting edge.

this was well done for a 1st time VR sculpt and very impressive. I think VR sculpting is a no for me though. I'm too accustomed to art tablets but they've never failed me and I feel I can work quickly the way I'd like to. I feel like learning the controls would take a while which is time i can't afford when you're a one man animation production team. I also have vertigo and lower back problems after an accident i had a long time ago so I work best seated upright, keeping my head straight, my monitor raised, tab pad and pen the right, keyboard to the left and mouse on the right above the tab pad. cheap but sturdy and looks like something tank would use from the matrix lol.
in the end it's all about preference and physical condition I suppose.

this is so cool!!!! it’s awesome that one whole person can just make this kind of stuff out of thin air with little to no reference, as well as having such a deep understand of muscles and other anatomy factors. however, i would like to point out that the fabric/texture around the butt and pelvis doesn’t make much sense, considering how high the cut is at the hips. with real world physics, the butt part would fold fold over unless a special wire was put
into the hem. maybe that was what you were going for, or maybe this is just a stylistic decision. either way, she looks pretty fricking rad!!!!
