One in the series of "Private SNAFU" cartoons produced by Warner Brothers, "Snafuperman" (1944) was directed by Friz Freleng and written by Abe Liss and Theodor Geisel aka Dr. Seuss. It features the voices of Mel Blanc and Tedd Pierce. Here, Private SNAFU is transformed into a superhero by a guardian angel, but one who refused to study field manuals or maps. The result is chaos, as SNAFU almost attacks Washington, D.C. instead of Berlin, and mistakes an American tank for a Japanese one.
Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k. For more information visit www.PeriscopeFi...
Got to love it when Mel Blanc breaks character to just scream as loudly as possible.
There's no mistaking Mel Blanc's voiceovers.
Outstanding Easter egg musical quote “borrowed” by Carl Stalling of the theme from the Fleischer Superman cartoons!
Good ear.
The spelling mistake in the title is to catch any German spies trying to correct it.
It happened by accident in the Battle of the Bulge.
My dad fought in the battle of the bulge.
2:11 SNAFU literary drops a load out of his pants.
SNAFU
SITUATION
NORMAL
ALL
F**KED
UP
Is that true????
@@OdisseuBRYep.
Also: all *fouled* up.
That's fubar.
3:20 this is pretty much identical to the wording of a scene in Daffy the Commando
Yeah, I remember that too.
God bless all of them.
WB even mentioning a DC property is fascinating, although in wartime things aren’t Situation Normal anymore…
Snafu doesn't have bone spurs and volunteered to fight.
Nor, did he get 5 deferments and then was classified as 1-Y for having had asthma as a teenager and would not be drafted.
Strangely enough, my brother was drafted, as a teenager, even though he had a diagnosis of asthma at the AFEES station! I wonder why my brother didn't get a 1-Y classification.
It's kind of sad that Biden could get5 draft deferrals when he was such a crappy student. At least Trump built up a semi empire and employed thousands of people. Biden just put 100s of thousands of black people in prison and never employed anybody except his house servants .
Sniffy joe had no excuse...
Snafu should at least get a Purple Heart for this.
Better than anything produced these days 👍
No.
The famous voice of Mel Blanc AKA bugs Bunny and company
Excellent work dudes!!
One copy of Field Manual FM 100-5 (1941) "Operations" - coming right up !
The Good Idea Fairy was interesting. I had never seen him in media before.
Spelling mistake in your title.
just another snafu
April fools
That was probably banging the sides of your snob gut until you mentioned it. Do you feel better now?
Oddly appropriate
Maybe an intentional misdirect?
Bugs's voice.
Mel Blanc.
Thanks for sharing this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Apparently these were not for public exhibition in cinemas.
It's all WB style, gags, and of course voicework--but that Superman theme --and the way Snafuperman's outfit and powers are portrayed--pure Fleischer. That must have been painful for Max, but there was a war on. Shoulders to the wheel and all that.
I worked as a draftsman in the late 50's and I remember my supervisor yelling out "All I want to see is assholes and elbows".
What I learned from this was that American tanks were just as bad as Americans were told that Japanese tanks were.
In sort-of-fairness, the M3 series Light tanks, which that is, were about on par with Japanese medium tanks, and did have a vaguely similar look.
I’m not a war buff, but I read a bit about the Sherman tank sometime back. Per specs, they weren’t the most deadly tanks in WWII, but in practice they had some big advantages. Mechanically they were fairly rugged and simple to repair verses German tanks breaking down a lot and, very importantly, the US had the manufacturing capacity to build a lot so we had more than Germany or Japan. Combined with infantry they were very effective and having a lot of them made a big difference.
Wow! I never saw this one.
Did they use the ‘F’ word back then or fouled in SNAFU ?
Depends on the people you were with.
Yes the f word was used back then. The word foul came in for when it started going to be printed up to explain to the people back at home with the word meant. It's kind of like the quote "come on you bastards you want to live forever!"was quoted in the papers as come on you apes you want to live forever
You need to correct the title. It reads "SANFUPERMAN," but should read "SNAFUPERMAN." You transposed the N and the A.
Tell me about it. I'll probably unsub from this channel because of this unforgivable mistake. There, snowflake, feel justified yet?
That might be intentional. For some reason, UA-cam auto marks some Snafu cartoons as "for kids", despite the mature and historical content.
@@sonicmastersword8080 the cause could be a game? snafu (snakes). can't remember why mattelelectronics used snafu but there is a background story to this.
👍😊
SNAFU got FUBAR 🤣 As for me DILIGAF 😎
This movie is cool😊😊😊😊
Possibly the most "unreal" part of this is finding a general inside a battle tank?😜
When propaganda is better than modern shows
There is a reason for that. If you showed Americans then what modern shows are now, they would have never went over.
@@l337pwnage how do u figure that when all of the modern crap today comes out of that hogbasin of a disgusting nation.
You mean, when old propaganda is better than the current propaganda.
No.
1) This isn't propaganda.
2) Just no.

The time ticker is damned annoying. What's the point of it?
Here's the issue: Tens of thousands of films similar to this one have been lost forever -- destroyed -- and many others are at risk. Our company preserves these precious bits of history one film at a time. How do we afford to do that? By selling them as stock footage to documentary filmmakers and broadcasters. If we did not have a counter, we could not afford to post films like these online, and no films would be preserved. It's that simple. So we ask you to bear with the watermark and timecodes.
In the past we tried many different systems including placing our timer at the bottom corner of our videos. What happened? Unscrupulous UA-cam users downloaded our vids, blew them up so the timer was not visible, and re-posted them as their own content! We had to use content control to have the videos removed and shut down these channels. It's hard enough work preserving these films and posting them, without having to spend precious time dealing with policing thievery -- and not what we devoted ourselves to do.
Love our channel and want to support what we do? You can help us save and post more orphaned films! Support us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/PeriscopeFilm Even a really tiny contribution can make a difference.
@@PeriscopeFilm That's reasonable, but a static watermark as big and central as the time ticker would be a lot less distracting and annoying than the time ticker itself.
@@KarlBunker the timecodes are absolutely vital for filmmakers and content creators, who utilize the timestamps to report what they need to license.
@@PeriscopeFilm "A small convenience" ≠ "absolutely vital"
If it weren't for stock footage licensing -- our channel would not exist and all the films we've preserved, would have been lost forever.

Amazing that they got away with calling it that.
Was DC going to sue the Army in wartime? They could get away with anything!
With Superman's powers, would he really need a bomb?
