If there was no exile, then where did the Jews of the world come from? What cultural, ethnic, and genetic (in the civil sense) traits unite Jews from "Marrakesh" and Jews from "Kyiv", for example? If there is no cultural unity among different Jewish communities, could there be a "blood unity"? Is it true that there is a "Jewish gene" as claimed by Zionism?
In answering these questions, Sand formulates his thesis: that Jews have always formed important religious communities that have established themselves in various regions around the world, not solely in Palestine. However, they did not constitute a nation (ethnos) of a single and unique origin, migrating from there through constant displacement and exile across Western Asia, North Africa, Eastern and Southern Europe, including settling in Spain.
Sand argues that in 1970, there was a development in archaeology influenced by the historical materialism school in France, which shifted the focus of historical research from political to social aspects. This shift reached Israeli universities, leading to the emergence of contradictions in the official narrative, shaking not only the myths established for the State of Israel but for Jewish history as a whole.
The occupation of "Canaan" and the extermination of its inhabitants according to the book of "Joshua", considered the first massacre in human history, did not occur as it was completely refuted by archaeology.
Additionally, the Torah narrative about the kingdom of David and Solomon, supposed to have thrived in the tenth century BCE and considered by all Israeli historians as the cornerstone of national memory, was also debunked by archaeological discoveries over seventy years in Palestine. Excavations conducted from 1970 onwards, including those around and under the Al-Aqsa Mosque, have failed to provide any evidence of the existence of this imaginary kingdom or its alleged temple.
Sand concludes by saying that these central myths about an ancient and exceptional Jewish people have faithfully served the emergence of Jewish nationalistic ideas and the Zionist project, providing justification for the colonization process in Palestine. Sand states in his book that the Zionist historical narrative began to disintegrate at the end of the twentieth century in Israel itself and worldwide, transforming into mere literary myths divorced from actual history, a chasm impossible to bridge. These are the main points outlined in Sand's book... solid archaeological facts on the ground demonstrate that Israel was founded on a myth and historical lies fabricated by global Zionism to occupy Palestine and implant a foreign entity with military power to serve the West.
