In this clip from the 1993 film "Groundhog Day," Phil (Bill Murray) is confronted with the emptiness of his repeated existence and reaches a point of bleak despair.
Amen. The jumping scene works perfectly with the music too. It captures that sense of hopelessness perfectly. One of the most powerful moments of the whole film.
Huh, so the time loops continued after he died, it just resets at midnight. Unless each day created a new time line and there’s a bunch where he’s just dead
@vexxama If there were a bunch of timelines happening, someone would have known what was going on but, Rita seemed very strict over him not understanding what was going on with Phil. For example, Ned Ryerson came to him four days in a row with Ned not having a memory of what was going on especially on the third day Phil ended up pushing Ned where Ned had that look on his face like he was saying, "he hasn't seen me in years and this is how he treats me" and then the next day Ned comes up to him not having a memory of being pushed away and ends up getting punched in the face by Phil. Then when Phil saw him a fifth time, he hugs Ned with Ned wondering why he is hugging him without having a memory of seeing him in the street or getting punched.
One thing I don't get...they show other people's reactions when he dies...which implies that he doesn't resurrect until midnight on Groundhog Day, so he's just dead until the end of the day. But isn't there a scene where he stays up all night with Andie MacDowell then it resets when he falls asleep, which implies that the time loop happens when he loses consciousness. Unless he doesn't stay up with her until the very end when there is no loop.
Yeah. It's like 3:02am. But what's even stranger is that on the first repeat you see the clock saying like 4:30am. That's why he probably later says 6am. In the script, it's explained why this is happening. Some crazy ex girl friend who's now like some goth places some spell on him using his business card and an old watch which is stopped at 5:59
@@VanillaLimeCoke Very interesting. I wonder if its the same ex girlfriend who he mentioned in the bowling alley, the one he met in the Virgin Island and had a really good time like eating lobsters and making love which he confesses is a day he would have preferred as a time loop.
@@VanillaLimeCoke The thing that broke the spell was for Rita to fall in love with him which happened and she got in the bed with him and the next morning when he woke up at 6:00am, Rita was still there in the bed with him and a new song was being played over the radio which marked as February 3rd ending Groundhog Day.
@Moony385 It was only repeating for Phil since nobody else including Rita had any idea what he was talking about when he said that the days keep repeating for him like tomorrow has never happened.
At first I thought this video was just of the scene with the toaster. I don't know why, but I find that part funny. I mean non of the suicide attempts are funny in this, but the part that makes it funny is how that lady says and makes a face saying "Oh my....God!" I also thought that scene was before Phil crashed that truck with Punxsy Phil. I laughed when he woke up and said "Oh nuts!" Anyway, I've got kind of a groundhog day story. Back when the song Oceans was brand new I was always listening to the radio at around 4:30 and it seemed like every day at about 4:30 they'd play that song for at least a month, maybe more because I got sick of the song and just listened to what I had on my iTunes library.
IMHO The first three suicide attempts are funny, but the last one isn't. the toaster is my favorite, especially how before the fire blends into the 5:59 clock and it almost looks like the clock has a tiny bit of fire extinguisher foam. Just how Phil wakes up and groans "oh no," but regardless tries a few more times. But he just goes down in his pajamas and doesn't answer the hotel lady. He just takes the toaster with the toast still in it and gets in the 🛀 bath tub 🛀 with his pajamas still on and drops the toaster in with the toast still in it is what makes it classic. The sounds of the lights shorting out and how it takes a few seconds for them to short out and how hotel lady goes, "oh my..........God," is what makes the whole scene funny.
@Elvis316 This movie was good, but I don't think it's the best movie ever made. There are so many really good films out there, the one for me that I really, really like is Back to the Future, now that in my opinion is the best ever made.
can't blame him... this everyday's "Reality" is just too damn boring & LIMITED .. especially for the creative, intelligent/smart, and/or imaginative type of people that's so different from the rest of 90% 'brainwashed sheeple' people/human beings on the planet...!
Am actually laughing so hard at 0:16 when he takes the toaster

I reeeallly hope at 0:34 the power in reality was shut off, because it would have sucked if that accidently slipped out of Bill Murray's hands...
Outage
Duh
Possibly the greatest movie of all time.
the look on his face right before he jumps is classic
That's the voice of Harold Ramis ("Egon Spengler" from Ghostbusters).

It resets at 6 a.m.
He once stayed up with Reeta till around 3 a.m. to see what would happen.
Not to mention all the ones were he snaps and kills everyone in the town

I wonder whether the whole world was repeating too or just Punxsutawney
