  • We all know what a Jumbo is - but what the hell is a Mini-Jumbo? To illustrate, I look at the Takamine models - GJ72CE NAT (Jumbo) and GF30CE BSB FXC (Mini-Jumbo).

I had a J150 (Gibson's little brother of the real jumbo) once. Less decoration and mine sounded better than the jumbo in the shop. Acoustics are variable guitar to guitar... so do NOT turn away from a smaller guitar. It may sound excellent and cost less than a real 'jumbo'

Agreed - both these Taks have good features. I like mini jumbos in general.

Pretty useless post. I am a fan of "Small Jumbos" like the Martin J-40 and Gibson J-185 and have recently ordered a Collings C-100. All 16 inch lower bout guitars as compared to the full sized jumbos like the Gibson SJ-200 at 17 inches. All have their plusses and sound differences but I just prefer the slightly smaller, but still large, body shape. I also think the smaller body with tighter waist is more balanced than the 17 inch bodies or the Dreadnaughts. I don't know the poster but he certainly could have been more informative.

I dunno... most people have found the info useful. Sounds like you have some killer guitars!

Mini jumbos. Perfect size guitar. It has the finesse of an OM and the nice basses of a dreadnought.

My Sigma jumbo came with a really nice padded bag.It has an internal neck support and an external bag for tools, strings etc and it looks like a lot of work went into its design and construction a very nice bag indeed.

Thanks - I make them playable or prompt people to learn some set up skills so they can do it for themselves.

My general understanding is that rounded body shapes stand for fundamentals and good note separation whereas a square shaped dreadnaught can have more overtones and a kind of mushy sound. Only a very rough rule. So, the mini jumbos fit in with the GA and OM body shapes. I do not think that the difference between those shapes have a great impact on the sound. But a mini jumbo with tight waste can be very convenient to play. It may fit well in your lap when you are sitting with your legs crossed.

Yes - they are more like OMs or grand auditoriums. Comfortable to play the minis.

That was a good idea for a video. I like the Seagull Mini Jumbo. Here in Pittsburgh, Jumbo means chipped ham. Thanks, Sir.

I've never seen a ChromaCast gig bag in person, but they look very good. Also, cool t-shirt!

Cheers - the padded chromecast bags are decent - and sometimes amazon blows them out.

Back in the 70s natural flame maple back and birds-eye neck jumbos were pretty popular, and not just with John Denver fans. Don't seem to see anywhere near as much natural maple on acoustics these days. Personally I like it.

Yes, it was a 70s thing... and I'm seeing both Washburn and Takamine bringing back the Maple back jumbos.

Hello! Does anyone know the length, width and thickness of the mini jumbo? Thanks. Good video!

It is not standardised and tends to vary from guitar to guitar. Regarding this example here I no longer have it to give you measurements. Sorry.

What is the cheapest jumbo dreadnaut guitar out there and good playability?

    • @michaellubrecht7224
      @michaellubrecht7224 Рік тому

There isn't such a thing. A "Jumbo" is the more round shouldered shape with a thinner waist and a "Dreadnaught" is more rectangular in shape. Most companies make both styles. Seagull is known for making affordable guitars that sound good.
