I'm the type that would shrivel up and run if I even had to _speak_ in front of a small percentage of a crowd that she was preforming for... little alone a world wide broadcast!! 😱 She is such an incredibly talented preformer (singing, dancing, gymnastics, etc), as well as having an amazing stage presence with an ability to push through any nervousness she gets!!

I’m Britney’s age (our birthdays are less than a month apart) but I was part of a friends group that was into “alternative” music back in the day, so liking and enjoying Britney wasn’t an option. The VMA from 1999 was her debut as a global superstar, but this beige, diamond masterpiece catapulted her into a pop icon as you said. I still remember vividly when the performance was a couple of days old and I watched it over and over and over again. Even then I knew that I was a witness to something very precious.
I think the key difference between the rehearsals and the live performance is her energy, which was already high to begin with, but she really gave her EVERYTHING in the actual performance. I do wish there were fewer camera moves in the final performance bc there were some really cool and intricate moves we didn't get to see, like a bunch of things did inside that prop, and that lil knee kick toward the end:/
Well I disagree..she had higher energy on rehearsals.don't get me wrong of course she was amazing on the actual show but she had more confidence on rehearsals..britney always had a little anxiety on stage when she's live to perform in a huge crowd...she is more relax on rehearsals..but she was amazing on both moments

What you see here is already, AT EIGHTEEN, what a rock-solid professional she was. In rehearsal,, she pretty much has all her choreography nailed. Her performance looks spontaneous and eoritc, but she has all her steps, shakes, hair tosses - everything in place for the "live" performance. A genuine star.

I've seen her live back then and the fact she went almost 2 hours performing like that... Singing and dancing with no real break was amazing. Even dancing for 30 minutes back then i needed a rest and water break
What i notice most is when she dances she has a significant flow and ease that other dancers with probably more professional training do not. Others seem very boxy, hers is fluid and yet dead on time with the beat of music...and yet other times, she is slightly off only to make it part of the natural movement. Its amazing, i think she feels the music rather than technique alone like the backup dancers.
I agree. I recall there was a dance class video of Slave from Yanis Marshall (sp?) where, despite all the dancers trying to outdo each other on the floor, they never came close to the ease of Britney’s moves. You nail it right in the head: the flow and ease were unmatched.
I miss being a dancer/performer too .. it’s true that when you all get your costumes on and a mix of nerves and the crowd that you just come alive and NAIL IT! She really came all the way together for the actual live one ☺️🙌
The lighting team is super underrated here- managing to keep all the backups in darkness even with 50 lights pointing everywhere and ensuring Britney is practically glowing on stage even during the dark sections of the routine.
The camera ppl missed so many great moments I mean this is freaking amazing but like there was a moment where the music paused and she had her head tilt back in the apparatus and then everyone including the dancers looked towards the audience.. a closeup shot would have sealed it … I love her so much

Britney’s vocals are decent, not great but better than the average singer. Her dancing though… she clearly feels every move. She is enchanting to watch.
Tbh it is really good considering how difficult it must be to make your voice so High and creaky when it’s naturally deep AND doing intricate dancing the entire time.

I watch this all of these years later (she and I are the same age) and as beautiful as she is, the truth of what she was going through at that time just breaks my heart. I’m wondering if she even got to enjoy what a bad ass she was. Such an amazing performance.
She absolutely shined on stage… totally in her element. I’ve seen plenty of Britney concerts in my day. They took her love of making art on stage and mangled it.
I actually felt that the clothing changed the overall vibe. Watching her in black and having the comfort seemed to convey more control and power- which fits the top. The nude, glitter and camera shots made it feel more sexualized. It makes me sad for her that this is how the industry saw her.
There’s so many things I love about this performance, Britney popping and locking to every drum beat, the footwork while she’s in the steel ring thing that spins but the “OOPS” run up fast and mock fall/ dance move @2:13 is my all time fav. That move could go very wrong and easily turn into a real fall 😂 I love her 👸🏼💕

This is two years after this video was uploaded and over 23 years after the performance and people still comment every day. It still makes my heart beat faster. She doesn't even need to sing and we are still crazy about her. In my opinion the most beautiful woman in the world. We can't stop looking at her.

-It was nothing like he had ever seen before from her, from this song
-It was controversial because of the nude outfit
While I love “I’m A Slave 4 U” performance and is regarded as one of her best and VMA’s best, I keep this one on a higher spot

I've seen her live back then and the fact she went almost 2 hours performing like that... Singing and dancing with no real break was amazing. Even dancing for 30 minutes back then i needed a rest and water break
She just danced. She wasn’t singing live she was miming the whole concert you mean. And every concert she ever done.

THIS IS THE BRITNEY that was TRULY HAPPY & THE BRITNEY WE FELL IN LOVE WITH SINCE 1999‼️
What i notice most is when she dances she has a significant flow and ease that other dancers with probably more professional training do not. Others seem very boxy, hers is fluid and yet dead on time with the beat of music...and yet other times, she is slightly off only to make it part of the natural movement. Its amazing, i think she feels the music rather than technique alone like the backup dancers.
I agree. I recall there was a dance class video of Slave from Yanis Marshall (sp?) where, despite all the dancers trying to outdo each other on the floor, they never came close to the ease of Britney’s moves. You nail it right in the head: the flow and ease were unmatched.
I miss being a dancer/performer too .. it’s true that when you all get your costumes on and a mix of nerves and the crowd that you just come alive and NAIL IT! She really came all the way together for the actual live one ☺️🙌
The lighting team is super underrated here- managing to keep all the backups in darkness even with 50 lights pointing everywhere and ensuring Britney is practically glowing on stage even during the dark sections of the routine.
The camera ppl missed so many great moments I mean this is freaking amazing but like there was a moment where the music paused and she had her head tilt back in the apparatus and then everyone including the dancers looked towards the audience.. a closeup shot would have sealed it … I love her so much
once i saw this video i said "hmm looks like the camera crew has been screwing up for a while now" lol. the past few years have been bad also

Britney’s vocals are decent, not great but better than the average singer. Her dancing though… she clearly feels every move. She is enchanting to watch.

Tbh it is really good considering how difficult it must be to make your voice so High and creaky when it’s naturally deep AND doing intricate dancing the entire time.

I actually felt that the clothing changed the overall vibe. Watching her in black and having the comfort seemed to convey more control and power- which fits the top. The nude, glitter and camera shots made it feel more sexualized. It makes me sad for her that this is how the industry saw her.

There’s so many things I love about this performance, Britney popping and locking to every drum beat, the footwork while she’s in the steel ring thing that spins but the “OOPS” run up fast and mock fall/ dance move @2:13 is my all time fav. That move could go very wrong and easily turn into a real fall 😂 I love her 👸🏼💕
