DISCOVERING a MOUNTAIN of AGATE in Utah (Geodes, Agates, Apache Tears, + more) Rock Hound Diaries #6

- In this episode of the Rockhound Diaries, we're in Utah, searching for Agates and Amethyst Geodes! I'm going to take you on adventure to many of Utah's most famous mineral digging locations. Most of these places are free, so digging rocks, and taking home crystals is completely cool and totally allowed. If you like geodes, and agates, and pretty rocks, Utah is for you. There are over 60 places to hunt for agates, geodes, chalcedony, obsidian, pyrite, barite, fossils, and waaaaayyyy more.
We venture through the midwest portion of the state, stopping in Dugway first, then heading to the Drum mountains after that. Traveling in my converted sprinter van, we can stay out under the stars, and get up early for rocks. Eventually we made our way to the southeast portion, and found some AMAZING agates.
Finding rocks, and making jewelry is such a good way to appreciate nature! the main goal of my videos is to show you all that. Minerals are rare, and fun to find, and I hope that message gets passed along in some way. If you have any questions about rocks, or the video, drop a comment!
Thanks for stopping in!

Just got home yesterday from Utah and I had a BLAST rockhounding. More agate than I could even imagine.
When the thumbnail says a mountain of agate 😅 he ain't even joking at all ! I watch a lot of these channels and this is beyond anything I've ever seen in my life . I would just loose my mind . Absolutely Unbelievable !
It’s good to see your excitement rock hounding in the Utah desert. You hit most of my sites I get rocks from. Rattle snakes and scorpions are abundant in those areas so be careful letting your dog run and when you roll rocks. The eastern deserts of utah are full of agates that are different from central Utah. Keep knocking on rocks and enjoying life
Cools stuff man! I have a handful of these agates too and love them all! Utah has some great material 🤘
Wow, those Apache Tears were like picking cherries. I found them like that before, I sold a bag of about 150 Apache Tears for $30 to a lapidary guy at the flea market, gas money. About a third were naturally polished by the desert sand. They were turned int beautiful earrings after a tumbling polish.
Great finds!!! Thanks for sharing great video looking fwd to seeing more.
Amazing locations and materials. Love dugway geodes. Those agates are insane.
Sheesh you weren’t kidding. This was my favorite yet. Great finds. Great music. Great editing 🤙
Can’t wait for some Utah rocks.
just returned from a full days rockhounding Agate trip to Utah. Beautiful material you have as well.
The agate was mind blowing.
That last spot looks insane! I was inspired by your previous video and bought a guide to rock hounding in Oregon. I went out to short beach but I missed the tide! I'll be going back soon to get my first agates. Love these videos and seeing Hogan running around.
looking forward to seeing these get cut open & polished!
Great stuff you found. I love cracking opened geods. I go to a store in Westport Washington. There gorgeous inside, but there the smaller one's. My sister had shown me one of her's that had just broke open. It was awesome. Thanks for sharing your experience with all your findings.👍
My guess is Bryson’s rock shop. Love them. Awesome folks.
Love theese - I would love to see the finished products as well - keep it up1
We spent a week around Hanksville, came home with a lot of jasper agates. Good petrified wood around Zion as well. Great vid.
This is a very good video. I would have liked to see more detailed directions to these places. You have shown us some beautiful rocks. I will be out there in the spring. Hope I can find some of the same. Thanks for this video. Thumbs up ! Mac
Great video.
WOW WOW WOW
Wow! Nice finds! With all theses minerals you will need a trailer soon! :)
Dude I stumbled across this video and was like that's totally the guy I watch on gk pro doing disc golf competition's then you mentioned you were in Utah for worlds and I knew it was you. That's cool man. Glad you are having funt in my part of the country.
MashAllah so beautiful sharing
Hi Luke! I'm a new sub from Tallapoosa GA. I've been a Rockhound all my life (62). I've never had a chance to look anywhere besides GA due to lack of transportation. Beautiful agates ! Will be checking out the rest of your videos, definitely. ✌️♥️
PS.... My maiden name is Humphries. Cool 😎!
Great video guys! New subscriber. I also love using my discs as rock holders. 😁
Fantastic video! I've lived here my entire life and you got me so stoked to get out and start hounding. Do you have approximate coordinates for the middle of the Utah desert location? Towns nearby, roads you traveled? Thanks for the video. Super impressed with the quality, content, and even the music 🤙
Just found ya good stuff thx
WOW!!! Thank you so much for showing us! I love the doggie too!
A lot of the rock came from the Wah Wah super volcano directly south along the Nevada/Utah boulder just miles away.
Looks fun, wonder if Hogan would ignore a snake, doubt it
I found that rubber soled dog boots are great for my dog. They protect her feet from sharp rocks and most important the heat from those rocky areas. I figured that out with my dog when she did not want to get out of my truck at the yellow cat area of Utah. It's funny watching her pad around in her boots!
WOW fantastic finds, Great video thanks for sharing, we will be passing through Utah in March not sure if we will be able to do any hounding (snow and mud) but will defiantly put it on our list for later this year. I didnt hear you mention the name of the last place you were at? again THANK YOU
I have watched your video more then a dozen times. Great finds I would love to know where your 3rd and 5th cites are.
I work at a gold mine in eureka Utah and have found a lot beautiful crystals and xocomecatlite, I’m sure I’ll see you at a tournament sometime and give you some rocks dude. A good place to go to in Utah is topaz mountain near delta
I've been to that agate spot before. The stuff tumbles like a dream.
Is there a name for that last spot?
Is that agate hill south of panquitch?
@@seanchapman269 no. It's the one by topaz mountain
If you guys are in Michigan the whole thumb side of lake Huron has amazing rocks and fossils on the beaches
16:15 looks like flint!
Safe to say all these locations on listed in the Rockhounding Utah book? How would you feel about sharing which of those sites in the book you visited?
I would be the troll on the agate hill keeping people away from all my precious’es. 😂😂😂
Do you have a list of these places? I am driving through Utah soon and would love to see these places
Did you stop at Topaz Mountain? Starvation Valley is about 15 minutes away.
I was Arrowhead hunting and found a Geo but it was carved like a bird and the top was off of it cuz it got hit by a plow so I can see all the crystals inside but the sides of it's carved like a bird you know the wings and the feathers so it was pretty cool I've never found one and I wasn't looking for one
Hey Luke, I know you were just in Illinois. We’re there any spots worth checking out near dellwood? I thought there were some decent geode spots near Peoria, definitely gonna take a look during Ledgestone.
That place with the big agates is amazing!! Where is it located at? Dugway geodes are really pretty polished up. The outside part of it is rhyolite and I’ve been told it’s almost like a thunder egg except of course, hollow. But it has more in common with thunder eggs than with other geodes. Great stuff!!
You can find some Moab up river on left hand side of river east of Moab up river my dad an I was there in 1970
Around the8 min mark , where is this , I’d like to go. At 10:45 where’s this also. At 11:40 too. Wow some nice places. Just subscribed.
Bro, you all found a bunch of killer agates. Where were yall at at the 11:00 mark... at the 12:00 spot is that part of the Morrison formation?
black horn coral and lots and lots of other ancient fossils on da mtn above me house. come and get some.
Hi, just stumbled over this video: that's the rock-trip of my dreams! Wow, so much stunning material! What a pitty it's almost the opposite side of the world for me.
For me is the opposite side of the world ….👋👋👋 From Belgium-Europe! Very Beautiful 😘
What happens to agate on time scales of like 100,000 or more years?
Thanks for sharing your adventure to Dugway, have never been there, but looks like a great time, I go to Keokuk and dig, there are a wealth of sedimentary geodes there, Geode Capital of the world for sure.
Great video and awesome soundtrack...anybody with a link to the tune at 6:00? Thanks in advance
Was their banding in the sky blue Agate with reds ?
Are you coming to Santa Cruz for Masters Cup? If so let me know and I might be able to point you to some interesting places (though not a lot very close to here)
Where was the last spot? I know you said ‘way out in the Utah desert.’ Could you be more specific?
I'd love a coordinance on the agate locations. I just got a rock saw and I'm dying to cut and tumble some agate like that.
Where do see coordinates?
Yes where exactly were you when you found the agate?
agates everywhere on this earth. find your own place like these people did. lol
There are so many places to find agate in Utah! Check out our channel for some ideas and locations.

What type of safety measures do you go by so as you dig into the earth it doesn’t collapse on you? ( Really asking )
It’s more of an experience thing. From being in holes a lot 😅

Get your dog some boots and a cooling jacket
Just a heads up. Blm has made it legal to use battery operated hammer drills on blm land recently. Check with the local blm office to verify 👍
Kevin funked the place up
UDAH🤒🤮😷
Stop moving your camera around so fast. I'm gonna get a seizure.
I am awestruck by the sheer amount and variety of the minerals and geodes there in Utah-what a bonanza! That must have been a great adventure, and that was cool to see Hogan getting in the rock-hunting spirit there, clawing at the ground looking for treasures :)
“This is what it was looking like coming out of the matrix”
…Wow! Personally I just saw a bunch of 1’s and 0’s and interweaving lattices when I came out of the matrix, but I probably would have preferred seeing full-blown crystals like this instead.
But either way, there is no spoon…🥄🚫
