sounds correct to me, I think the original recording had billy hillpot & scrappy lambert, doing the vocal refrain & the 20's style had the limp harmony trios & duos, if anything it's more accurate to the style than a professional vocalist that may over do it & discard the melody. vocal refrains in those days were usually done by musicians in the band who could put the instrument aside & get in a quick refrain & they didn't necessarily have to be great singers.....& great job everyone! top notch!
The Jack Pettis version had Lambert and Hillpot, the Ben Pollack one had the sister team of Dorothy and Hannah Wiliams. The singers here match up well with them. Pollack's version included Benny Goodmanon cl but not violin. Pettis featured Joe Venuti on violin.
@@doctorkazoo Oh contraire,! I have the Ben Pollack orch. ,78 and the girl singers are spot on recreating the vocal style of the two flappers that belt out the vocal on the record.
Another great band loving their work.
Its wonderful that yall play that lively old music i grew up with a player piano so i know this hot better day they were
These musicians are the finest I have ever heard!!!
I love this orchestra and the beautiful tunes; excellent solos!
The clarinetist really captures the young Benny Goodman's style and tone, while Bix would have been perfect for the Pollack band as Andy shows....
He really is a class act. You’ll see him play here on UA-cam with other similar bands. But then everyone you see here is a topnotch musician.
that's right, The Victoria Band (Holland), but in those days we played the right trumpet-notes and not an octave lower...

Great stuff but what does this band have against hiring a professional vocalist?

Great band,,,they need different singers.

We didn't need to "hire a professional vocalist" - the Whitley Bay Classic Jazz Party has plenty of good singers! In any case, I quite like it :)
