Like and subscribe! And yes, I know my chaps are too short, but that is the longest the store had. This is a pro saw, and a pro I am not. I have to be certified thru work with safety training and all that goes with running a saw thru "Safeassure" at work. We use the larger saws periodically, but usually everything we use is 390's or smaller.
Yes I turned up the oiler all the way. I use about a tank of oil to a tank of gas. I run 91 octain gas in all my small engines except for the john deer tractor as I am usually running that at least every other week. I use stihl oil and mix 2.5 gal at a time
@@dustybooksdiy non-ethanol gas ? Don’t mean to be prying, just trying to figure out why yours, is smoking so much and sounds like it is over revving.. ……do you have your chain tension real tight? Have you punched the oil pin to get the extra 1/4 turn on the oil? Trying to help……not T you off. Rick
I punched the oil pin. was told to do that for the longer bar. It normally doesn't smoke that bad. I had had it idling for a while to warm it up so i didn't just cold start it and run it wide open. my 290 was doing the same thing and I'm thinking that my oil and gas separated a bit when the tank was full. my gas can pulls off the bottom so it may be a little rich on oil as I'm down to the end of the tank. ethanol free gas.
@@dustybooksdiy Gotcha 👍 sounds like you, have all the bases covered. Maybe it was just a bad chain (Rakers too low) oh well…..I hope it smooths out for you. They are a FANtastic saw. Have a great week 👍👏🇺🇸 Rick
@@dustybooksdiy Was it lack of power on the saw? Were you running a full house chain or a skip chain? Did you file down the depth gauges at all? I woulda thought a 500i would rip thru that little tree.
I should have pulled the saw all the way out of the cut and started over. it was a new regular chain and biting really well, too well. That was an ash tree about 18 -20 in in diameter, and they get kind of stringy, sort of like a cottonwood, but not as bad and if the cut is bound up with chips it's hard for any saw to get going. For me cutting the angle of the wedge has always been a pain. Saw has lots of power and throttle response is incredible!

I’ve had mine for a year or maybe 2 years now. Mine starts usually no more than 3 pulls when cold. 8 pumps with the primer ball.
Do you have your oiler turned up on the 500i ? May I ask what fuel you are running in it? Rick

@@Living-The-Dreammine with a 25 inch bar runs out of oil before gas if I turn it all the way up. So I have to back it off a bit seems to oil fine.
Whats your oil mix
50:1. I mix 2.5 gal at a time and use the premeasured bottles from stihl.
Dang dude you were bogging that thing bad!
oh, I know. sometimes that happens and I could have edited it out or dropped another tree, but I like to stay realistic and so it is what it is.
