Absolutely love great bass playing..Billy Sheehan one of my favorites but then again not being objective..he's originally from here in western New York State proud to have him among the best bassists in the world. Saw Tony Levin play with King Crimson not too many years ago he too is amazing.
Billy may be lighting fast, but levin is god tier when it comes to spacing out notes and putting them in the right place to make great bass lines that support great songs. Plus he's a chapman stick user so i rest my case. I vote for levin😎🤘❤️
They're each the best in the type of music and style that they play but it's really cool hearing them all together play as if they're all on a different instrument each one of them beautiful
Are you actually listening? Billy and Tony are both great, different flavors of great. I am willing to bet that if you ask Tony what he thought of Bill's musicianship, you would get an honest response of respect and admiration.
Agreed… a phenomenal hard rock bassist in his own right, but a little too “busy” for my liking. Uncle Tony is a “less is more” kind of guy whose style I prefer… If you want to see a cool T L vid. Look up Tony Levin burnt bass. T L’s storage area caught fire a few years back and a lot of his equipment was lost in the fire… but he managed to salvage this one bass. Check it out!
Of course. It's just NOT his style of music. Every experienced driver can drive Formula 1 But can ,,you" compete with the formula 1 drivers ? Highly doubt it😉
I was thinking the same think. I think Sheehan is amazing, but to me he is a shredder. I enjoy hearing him play l, but the other guys up there are probably alot more versatile .
I doubt anyone here was happy about this performance lol solo bass and solo drums are more for the audience than the players. This isn't really all that fun of a thing to do, usually.
@@mattwood1562 soloing is great if you like showing off. Most musicians, myself included, get far more enjoyment from meshing with a band and feeling like the whole thing is greater than the sum of its parts.
Because, like all truly great musicians, he is humble and generous, honestly cares about other musicians and what they have to contribute, and outgrew the competitive aspect decades ago. It would be truly sad if you got to the peak of your profession and had to suddenly view everyone else as a waste of time. I would quit music if I felt that way. I guarantee John walked away from this event happy, and inspired by guys who don't do what he does, they do something different.
Mohini is lightning quick, but she’s a bit robotic and seems to have a chip on her shoulder the way she plays, which is great if you’re an athlete but music isn’t a competition.
I doubt it. Specially Dey. She can play fast, but mostly fast rubbish. No language or musicality so far. If you said Malaman or Hadrien Feraud….even the young Thiago André…ok
Tony Levin's ability to perform ANY style of music simply astounds me. Whether it's metal or jazz,...he's got it covered.
Absolutely love great bass playing..Billy Sheehan one of my favorites but then again not being objective..he's originally from here in western New York State proud to have him among the best bassists in the world. Saw Tony Levin play with King Crimson not too many years ago he too is amazing.
I think Tony Levin is from Rochester, so pretty close to WNY too :)
Tony plays at small places in ulster county too sometimes
Billy may be lighting fast, but levin is god tier when it comes to spacing out notes and putting them in the right place to make great bass lines that support great songs. Plus he's a chapman stick user so i rest my case. I vote for levin😎🤘❤️
What I learned from this:
Don't fart in a crowded elevator.
Billy Sheehan is a gentleman and a genius
And a Jewish Scientologist
And very humble until now
They're each the best in the type of music and style that they play but it's really cool hearing them all together play as if they're all on a different instrument each one of them beautiful
When Tony Levin got the gig with John Lennon, all he said was "Don't play too much".
Billy’s bass sounds amazing, wonder what’s it’s like when you play music on it?
Billy sheehan is an existential threat to all bass players, that's why I'm voting for TRUMP to save our Cats and Ducks!
why no coments??? this is awesome, thank you!
This is "bass"ically a good video. All kidding aside. I saw John Pattituci play at Carnegie Hall three ago.
Ha!
I saw John with Wayne Shorter's quartet in Philadelphia a few years ago. John's an amazing player. I like his work with Chick Corea's group too.
IMHO there is no vs Tony Levin. That man is the shit. So freakin good.
Billy: I'm gonna play every note NOT in the chord progression.......
Levin….aaaaall day!
Pattitucci, Levin, Sheehan, Burbridge, in that toder.
No Stu Hamm?
I feel like Billy was a bit off his game here and may have been a bit intimidated by having JP peering over his shoulder.
@Kzed that’s silly.
Amazing stuff.
billy sheehan tony levis che stile e tecnica con il basso tra i unici grandi tutte le musiche dal rock blues i migliori 🤩🤩👍👍👍👍👍
Tony....Forever
John Entwistle should've been there
I don't think John liked noodles.
@@TenFalconsMusic The Ox could have added some meat to the noodles
This is music not some kind of competition to see how many notes you can play
I was there.🎉
Excellent
Tony Levin + John P & Otel = class
Billy's alright but I feel most bassists end up playing fast and end up sounding like a guitarist.
You mean like the guy he's standing beside who literally has guitar strings on a big stick and uses a technique stolen from guitar players?
1:36 were there any effects used for this sound or was it some kind of tap harmonic thing??
I m a monster too, if playing randomly
Nice
Bass Jam was before ViacomCBS Drum week at Letterman ?
where's Nathan East?
home

Bass guitar vs Chapman Stick
Sheehan sounds like he dropped his bass down a lift shaft.
You can see who the flash in the pan is but solid improvisational skills will won the day
Billy's gymnastics are phenomenal, but he lacks melodic improvisation skills, at least here.
Yep, thought the same. Great tone, great technique but very stiff. TBH it's maybe not his ideal musical context
It reminded me of when I let my 6 year old sister play my bass.
I'm not joking.

yeah but can they play 'big bottom'?
Sheehan playing *JAZZ*???
Starring : the backing bassists lol
Damn I love Anthony Levin with dat chapman stick/ That video is so brilliant.
Billy Sheehan wins due to the fact that a real bass only utilizes 4 strings.
Who is this bald guy and why won't he stop playing Jerry Was A Racecar Driver?
🤣🤣🤣
Victory & Win for Billy Sheehan. (Mr Big).
ah Oteil :0
Ah! So this is what Hell is?
The only thing missing is Justin Bieber and a the Kardashians.
billy sheehan is the eddie van halen in bass
VS?
Love Billy, but that was crap.
Tony seems to groove where Billy doesn't.
Billy's groove is banana jazz
I enjoyed billy more personally just like his style more, no hate
I doubt anyone here was happy about this performance lol solo bass and solo drums are more for the audience than the players. This isn't really all that fun of a thing to do, usually.
You’re playing with the wrong people then 😬
@@mattwood1562 soloing is great if you like showing off. Most musicians, myself included, get far more enjoyment from meshing with a band and feeling like the whole thing is greater than the sum of its parts.
@@The.One.True.B dude who tf wants to see billy sheehan just playing along? he is known for his crazy skills so obviously people want to see that
There's a reason why you've never heard a tuba solo.
Does zero for me. I’ll take a great bass groove any day over off the resv jazzy improv that loses the foundation
Steve Harris & Markus Grosskopf.
It has not much to do with playin da bass.
Super pros are posin'.
none of these guys plays actual BASS
Why is Patitucci the GOD even wasting his time here? No disrespect but he is in a different league altogether....

So I guess this is the lead guitarist equivalent of the special olympics?
😂
I'd love to be able to play like Billy - but then choose not to.
I'll take Geddy Lee over all of them
I would take Chris Squire over all them including Geddy Lee
if an insane asylum had a "jam".
What the fuck is the first guy doing lol
Play bass, unlike rest.
something incredible.
Serving up a bowl of noodles.
The Stick isn't a bass... And they're mostly playing in a guitar range. They are all virtuosic, but not very "bassy" during this headcutting.
may not technically be a "bass guitar" but it laid down many a bassline on King Crimson albums
Depends on which tuning you use as well.
Billy Sheehan is easily one of the most overhyped bassists.
You're talking out of your ass.
Incredible musicians playing their asses off apparently wasted on a comment section of unappreciative snobs... sad
Don't read the comment section if you're sensitive and can't handle other opinions.
😴
never thought billy was anything special, like a lead guitar player on bass. Levin smokes him
sounds like a mob of noodly dudez ! lol!
unlike Tony, Billy is a one trick pony
Billy Sheehan is just making noise.
One of theses player seems to be lost ...Always the same licks...with an ugly sound
Where's John myung john would blow all of them out of the park
myung may blow somebody out by the park but Patitucci and Levin are some of the best in the world.
@@stanls265 well still I think he's on tue same level as levin I think at least 😁
No, because like Billy he is a hard rock / (prog)metal player. I saw him tackle Jaco P. at the last European DT tour & it wasn't too good...
If either Jonas Hellborg or Mohini Dey would walk in & start playing, they’d all pack up & leave😂.
Im a big fan of Jonas Hellborg and Mohiny Dey but John Patitucci is a legend too. Look at all the stuff he did with Chick Corea
Nope, Jonas idolizes Tony.
Mohini is lightning quick, but she’s a bit robotic and seems to have a chip on her shoulder the way she plays, which is great if you’re an athlete but music isn’t a competition.

Billy has chops but no ability to be musical.
As a bass player a can say Billy won this battle
😂😂😂
Billy Sheehan might be the worst bass player of all time
That was terrible
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
They all suck compared to Gene Simpson!
