Gackt is indeed a very talented an amazing person, he's an excellent actor who has been in a Hollywood movie called bunraku. I would definitely encourage you to look at more of his music and some of his acting roles. Also I laughed a bit when you said he was a vampire because he use to tell everyone he was one and that he's over 200 years old lol, explains alot!

They've already disbanded, but they did something called Neo-Japanesque, which is exactly that, the mixture of traditional with new. Their songs are just beautiful. Uzu, Sakura Zukiyo and Shiroi Uso are some of their best.

As far as playing on the tracks he does play some but his band plays on the tracks for the studio recordings. And the wiki page you were looking at is in need of update because he recently released his 48th single "Original Sin". Which was used as the opening theme to the first 12 episode,s and the closing for the last 12 episodes of the anime Trickster. He also provided the voice for the main villain of that series by the way. I recommend checking his IMDB page if you want to checkout any of his acting roles.
For the Samurai - Returner is a song for a TV-drama called Fūrin Kazan - where he played a samurai. And I had to smile when you said he's n Vampire, as he played together with hyde (leadsinger of L'Arc~en~Ciel) in a Vampire movie called Moonchild. Now you are in love of GACKT! I remember just could watch him, for some reason didn't like his voice but a friend of mine showed me a live and was like OMFG! There are some lives in UA-cam and must watch them!!!!
On top of the music videos, I watched concerts from him and saw him piano and kicking ass playing every instrument of a band. I also saw him playing some shamisen. Apparently he plays more music instruments. The music video "Redemption" made me an instant Gackt fan. The second music video I saw from him was Returner. Apparently "Returner" has been beating records in Japan music history. When I first saw one of his concerts, the crowd kept yelling his name before he got on stage. Then it was that he is very famous in Japan. Gackt is crazy talented and has a lot of discipline. He is very serious about intense regular physical training and staying flexible (splits and stuff...). He often appears on Japanese TV shows and always wins their games. On UA-cam you can find some TV shows he appeared on and even if you don't understand Japanese, you will have an idea of the physical stuff he's up to. It really shows how fit and flexible he is. He got has a 2nd degree black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do (a Korean martial art that is somewhat similar to one of the karate styles (kyokushan, etc...)). This is Gackt!

Gackt is great, and if you ever decide to do a continuation of this video (because with Gackt, there is so much going on lol) I would suggest: Solo Music videos: Ghost, Hakuro, and Setsugekka are my favourites, alongside Mizerable, White Lovers and Episode.0. You might also be interested to know that aside from Malice Mizer, he also participated in/created a band called YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz, for which I would recommend you definitely at least check out their song "The End of the Day." (It will turn 18 on 8/11/17 actually lol) But if you're a fan of Final Fantasy (Specifically FFVII), it is known his hair was styled like Clouds, since he is a huge fan of the series! In Redemption (which was also a song for the Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core game for PSP) the outfit he is wearing was actually the outfit worn by Genesis from the game (The Character who was actually modeled off Gackt!) I recommend one of their two most famous songs "One Night Carnival" or "Koibito" then a more dynamic song like "Delicate ni Kisu Shite" or "Oretachi ni ha Doyoubi Shika Nai" their instrumental "Asayake Banzai" (there's a really clear and pretty live video here on YT), and maybe some of their slapstick humor, like their cover of "YATTA!" Their singer SHOW-yan has had other character projects, like DJ OZMA and Yazima Beauty Salon, which are even heavier on the comedy element and are more pop than anything. I think Utakata is their most famous song, but Uzu is amazing too (and pretty much every other song by them, but those two are a must). I remember reading an interview years ago where they said that they wanted to make 'pretty music' and ho boy are their songs beautiful.

I love Gackt!! Do you react to female singers too? My favorite female singer is Koda Kumi. I own her entire discography (CD albums and singles along with all concert/MV DVDs & Blurays). Please react to her! She's known in Japan as the Queen of Live & has worked with numerous western artists including Omarion, T-pain, Sean Paul and Fergie. Also she's done photo shoots with Lady Gaga (LG even admitted to being her fan) and is married to Kenji03 from the band BACK-ON. He usually plays piano on his recordings, but that's it. He either has his band or session musicians play the other instruments. He's played piano, guitar, drums, violin and shamisen on stage though. His live shows are crazy - usually four hours long with plot lines, characters and movie quality opening/middle/ending videos to advance the plot. And yeah, he dies a lot in his music videos and during his concerts. It's a bit of a running joke at this point!

On top of the music videos, I watched concerts from him and saw him piano and kicking ass playing every instrument of a band. I also saw him playing some shamisen. Apparently he plays more music instruments.
The music video "Redemption" made me an instant Gackt fan. The second music video I saw from him was Returner. Apparently "Returner" has been beating records in Japan music history.
When I first saw one of his concerts, the crowd kept yelling his name before he got on stage. Then it was that he is very famous in Japan.
Gackt is crazy talented and has a lot of discipline.
He is very serious about intense regular physical training and staying flexible (splits and stuff...).
He often appears on Japanese TV shows and always wins their games.
On UA-cam you can find some TV shows he appeared on and even if you don't understand Japanese, you will have an idea of the physical stuff he's up to. It really shows how fit and flexible he is.
He got has a 2nd degree black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do (a Korean martial art that is somewhat similar to one of the karate styles (kyokushan, etc...)).

He has a full band as back-up. You need to check his live videos to see them clearly, but the entire band is in videos like Redemption and Black Stone. I personally love the guitarist Chachamaru and the violinist Yuu. There's also a clip of Gackt and Yuu playing a violin duet.

Oh man... Gackt was my teen playlist lol. The main thing I listened to before getting into kpop in my late teens (im now 23) I haven't listened to these songs in so long. But yeah I fell in love with his voice, his aesthetic, and the emotions in his music. He describes himself as a samurai vampire lol so theres a mix of gothic rock and traditional sounds in his music. My personal favourite song from him is Setsugekka End of Silence. But I have so many songs I love from him.

love gackt! he is living in japan like an aristocrat... he is damn wealthy and for sure one of the person of the planet i respect the most! his voice is so unique and flexible he is able to sing every genre.. if you compare it for example with hamasaki ayumi her live voice and the record one are totaly diffrent! and gackts totaly not! his acting performances are also damn good but at the most part he plays the bad guys...he does training every day for hours! as he is damn photogenic so he used also to be "the most beatiful face in japan" he also likes japanese comedy and also can joke within variety shows ! there is no second person like him for sure! he is also fluent in korean, chinese, french, english, spanish! with a alot of effort he is doing he is used to be an icon or an exmple of being an"perfect human"

Their singer SHOW-yan has had other character projects, like DJ OZMA and Yazima Beauty Salon, which are even heavier on the comedy element and are more pop than anything. Yazima Beauty Salon even has a movie.

Gackt is not a shy person about pretty much anything, when he knows the answer, he has no problem answering any questions about anything. Despite the angry expression he sometime makes, and talk about things that may seem inappropriate, from I what can can tell, he is kind, caring, protective and a respectful person. He seems to be a really funny a cool man.
I've seen many of his appearance of TV shows of radio interviews and this is how I got those impressions about him.

If you're looking for rock/traditional Japanese fusion music, Kagrra is really good! I think Utakata is their most famous song, but Uzu is amazing too (and pretty much every other song by them, but those two are a must). I remember reading an interview years ago where they said that they wanted to make 'pretty music' and ho boy are their songs beautiful.
The name of bamboo flute at the beginning is shakuhachi 尺八 if you're interested.
His Vocaloid, Gakupo, sounds remarkably similar to him so you can have him sing whatever you want.

I love Gackt!! Do you react to female singers too? My favorite female singer is Koda Kumi. I own her entire discography (CD albums and singles along with all concert/MV DVDs & Blurays). Please react to her! She's known in Japan as the Queen of Live & has worked with numerous western artists including Omarion, T-pain, Sean Paul and Fergie. Also she's done photo shoots with Lady Gaga (LG even admitted to being her fan) and is married to Kenji03 from the band BACK-ON. I highly recommend songs like Under, TABOO, FREAKY, Lollipop & her latest summer single LIT for starters. Also ballads like KISEKI, Moon Crying, walk and Ai no Uta are timeless.

He usually plays piano on his recordings, but that's it. He either has his band or session musicians play the other instruments. He's played piano, guitar, drums, violin and shamisen on stage though. His live shows are crazy - usually four hours long with plot lines, characters and movie quality opening/middle/ending videos to advance the plot.
And yeah, he dies a lot in his music videos and during his concerts. It's a bit of a running joke at this point!
