His music reflected him as a person which is funny cus yous said his beats make you feel happy? Dilla is one of the most well liked and respected musicians of all time. Coincidence? I think not
Why the Roots is still the best live show I got to see. That fucking sound. That combo of slick drums and perfect key playing mixed with flawless bass playing is still in my soul 15+ years later
This is the type of beat you don't think is that spectacular at first then gradually grows on you and next thing you know you're humming it in your head all day.
River Feinx or its like the beat that you download by accident when your downloading something else and you just leave it in your library and then like months later you see it and you play it out of curiosity and you realize it's lit af
TRIPLE AAA Word. That didn't happen to me with similar artists like Madlib and MF (my all time favorite) but Dilla immediately hit my ear right, and when I first heard this I couldn't even explain the feeling
oEREBUSz I first heard Madlib in 2001 in Detroit when my friend played it for me and then a few years later discovered him properly and now he’s in my top 3. I guess at first hearing it through a shitty car radio it didn’t hit my ear right lol
@@abdulgrundy3928 the stand out thing for me on this one is the sample and the way he brings out the low end. But looking back on it 6 years ago- I think it has to do with the memories

2010 July 4th in Yokohama, Japan at 8pm...never will forget that night. I had just got this cd and the instrumental cd. This instrumental was on repeat. Cruising past Cosmo World and watching the fireworks in Yokohama with two of my boys in the whip. Japanese girls and Brazilian girls waving in the car like crazy vibing to this. Parked, got out, and mingled with a lot of people in Yokohama about hip-hop, J Dilla, Illa J, Slum Village, Tribe, Adult Swim bumps, where the parties were that night. Cool ass night and every time I bump DFTF I reminisce over that night in Japan. This is a memorable album in so many ways.

I'm not dissing on Illa J, but it's Dilla's genius that made this album successful, Illa J has been bailed out by his brother's production a lot, and still is. Illa J is ok, but I'd still take Dilla on the mic over him as well.
lyricalslonglost I think you mean Guru and Premo :P Dilla was still pretty underrated on the mic, maybe not as lyrically but still had a respectable flow. But I mostly agree with what you're saying. There are few producers who are also MCs, Black Milk is one of them.
Im prettttttttttttttty sure it wasnt at all about being the most successful or popular in the music world. Im actually 100% positive thats not what it was about for the Yancey family, my favorite thing about Dilla is that he always remained true to his music. whatever he liked, he made. not what was popular, not what he thought would be the most popular.
Aaron Rossta Dilla seemed to be behind the scenes and humble, he had no corners either, he really could go from soulful/jazz to something unorthodox or completely different and added a lot of his own sounds such as drum beats (snares, etc.), he was very, very versatile and one of a kind.
Nikes en mis pies Quitando el estres Fumando hierba para olvidarme del ayer Ahhhhh mi estilo lo mantengo fresh Esa hierba me dejo mucho mas que bien Limpiando mis zapas
Jeesus Chrest why are you so butthurt over someone's OPINION? I understand when an impetuous artist passes away their work gets reevaluated. Doesn't mean other legendary producers can't compare to j dilla or match his skill set.
Stretch Armstrong i agree with you dilla knew wtf he was doing and did it in his own way. premo makes nice af beats and was talented no doubt but no producer compares to dilla as a musician
