It is truly a trip to watch these to see that John was almost completely correct about everything hes ever tried to warn everyone about. George Carlin is the only other person I can put in the same class
Jon Stewart, Dave Chapelle. Chapelle to a lesser degree as he's more focused on being funny than being useful for his party or nation, but he definitely has both the intellect and the education to match Carlin Stewart and Oliver.
@@InservioLetum I'd cross out Dave Chappelle completely off this list, at least the man he is today. All of Dave's jokes now are just pro-TERF anti-LGBTQ jokes because he's riding on the current anti-LGBTQ hate train.
@@InservioLetum Not even close. Yo don't see Oliver going to shows drunk starting fights with patrons. Chapelle is trash.
"It's a big club and you ain't in it."
The episode where most Filipinos first heard of him
...and won't be the last
Huh?
I doubt that, this isn't the first time he's mentioned Duterte, and there was the ASEAN piece as well in year one, I believe.
@@InservioLetum I'm pretty sure this was the first time he mentioned him; Duterte only rose to international recognition when he ran for president, and this was round about the time he did become president. also, as a filipino, that statement was a hundred percent correct, this was the first time we, and not even that many, first heard of him.
Do you mean Filipino Americans?
Don't you mean Colonial Territory?
I wish more people understood correlation vs causation. Even if that champagne study was using people and not rats, that wouldn't prove anything about champagne's health benefits. It could only be proving that people who drink champagne more often are wealthier and have better access to healthcare. Science gives us a spectrum of answers ranging in probability from raw correlation at the bottom rung all the way to repeatedly and comprehensively verified theory.
And this was even broadcast BEFORE the mass degredation of science
Why is season 3 being re uploaded?
That's why science uses experimentation and not just observation.
An observation study can only determine correlation; a properly controlled experiment can imply a cause and effect relationship.
What most people don't want to understand is that scientific conclusions are probability statements based on sample sizes, replication frequency, and measurement precision.
If you see or hear about the result of a scientific study, and it doesn't include information about sample size, margin of error, or confidence level - it is worthless, meaningless, and you would be better informed if you didn't learn about it.
Actually looking for causation is too inconvenient. Most people don't want to spend money and time on it when the results aren't guaranteed. They'd rather mislead laypeople by giving them the false instant gratification of correlations and make bank on less effort.
You actually have books that show the dumbest graphs, mostly based on correlation. Those are hilarious. Things like "if you have a beard, you're more likely to be hit by blue cars" and other conclusion like that.
That translator lady Is such a queen. I hope nothing ever happened to her 😅
Fr tho!! 😂😂 she’s like “LADY PLEASE!!🤫🔫
“ 20 women cannot speak for all women. This is the United States not the Senate” John Oliver. Excellently accurate joke.
Non-accurate quote, though.
This episode had at least two great quotes.
17:59 '20 women shouldn't represent all women. This is science, not the United States Senate.'
24:32 'In science you don't just get to cherry pick what you want to hear. You are thinking of religion."
28:27 "Guess what? I'm not even a scientist!" No, you're fry cook Bob Belcher!
No, he’s secret agent Sterling Archer!
@@ChunkboiBen from “Dr. Katz”and Coach McGurk from “Home Movies”
I thought it was Jon from Jon Benjamin Has A Van...
Clearly it's the convenience store clerk.
How did half of the "The Next President Of The United States" folks seem like obvious improvements, John?
I'm tired, John. I guess I need 8 hugs a day. It's science.
I'm so simple sometimes I laughed the hardest during this episode when he said Al Pacino and showed the picture of Beaker. I'm still laughing writing this!!
The TODD talks segment in this episode is gold. Pure gold and gets me laughing every time.
“A new study shows that hugging your dog is bad for your dog” is straight diabolical 10:25
Brought to you by the “cats are superior” foundation.
The thing that got me the most in this was the reference to vine
Rewatching this episode now, and wondering how many bottles of champagne did john consume when henry kissinger finally died last year
the voice of archer really wakes you up
Yet, the voice of bob routinely lulls me to peaceful sleep. Duality of H. Jon Benjamin
27:06 "Coffee Cures Cancer"... OMG it's the guy that voices Archer and it that is the most Archer thing ever to say lol
Omg you're right! THANK YOU! It was driving me crazy - I knew I recognized the voice, and I just couldn't place it. Of course it's Archer 😅
and bob from bob’s burgers!
This is great reporting! Actual, entertainment news. What entertainment news should be.
I'm a biomedical researcher. I have multiple degrees, including a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. I wholeheartedly believe that there are several flaws in the way the findings of research and studies are presented to the public.
John Oliver says November 29 is a day that warrants champagne.
why did i get half way through this without realizing it aired in 2016
Same hell, just a different circle.
4:48 well this aged like wine, and what a horrible wine that was.
It's so surreal watching this years after all of this has happened.
Aww! I forgot to break out the champagne!!
It’s weird watching all these bad things that are about to happen in retrospect
"You find the study that you think is best to you and you go with that." 🤦🤦🤦🤦
Boy, your timing is razor sharp! Your brilliant material slashes, cuts right to the bone…damn, you are FUN!
The love and positivity here is overwhelming. God bless you all!
Yay season 3
since acquiring epilepsy, ive been fascinated by the neurology of it, but there's soo few studies on it. it's even harder to study epilepsy because it's such an individualistic disability. and every neuro assigned to me does not care. i want to pick my own brain cause no one else will😭
Unsolicited advice based on my personal experience as an Epileptic:
During your next apointment with your primary care doctor, ask them to refer you to an Epileptologist (basically they're neurologists that specifically focus on treating seizure disorders and go through extra training). If you can, ask for one who is younger and/or associated with a well-known university. There is still a ton that we don't know about the human brain and younger doctors tend to be more open minded and havent had their curiosity and optimism beaten out of them by life yet. If you can't, then keep an eye out for the psychogenic diagnosis. While it can be a legitimate diagnosis a lot of doctors will use it as a catch-all.
@@Karen-pk3uv omg thank you!! will do 😄
These reruns should be like "pop up videos" and have little tidbits of info about the show or the subject!
We need to pass a law, if the science has not been replicated then it can not be reported to the public.
9:50 that Al Pacino one was golden. I’m genuinely surprised more people haven’t noticed that one yet. It was brilliant the first time, and it’s still funny now!
Oh, how innocent we were way back in... 2016. Shit.
Todd talks with archer has to be the best bit I’ve seen in awhile
You probably can find 37 people already on the all skittles diet in Tulsa, Oklahoma
Always a great Show!
As someone who actually reads the studies that these headlines are based on, it is astounding how many people misinterpret them or literally read nothing but the headline before accepting it as fact; not even the abstract or the conclusion.
I read that about 90% of people are passive consumers of media (they don't comment, "like," etc.). I feel like maybe even more than 90% of people don't click on the source link and read the study.
It's weird to actually SEE H. Jon Benjamin.... cuz I hear his voice and my brain immediately goes to Archer.
Oh man, H Jon Benjamin is awesome! That's voice is so iconic ❤
18:49 break out the bubbly!!🎉
A must-watch for scientists! Good job!
Clearly coffee industry must be funding a lot of "scientific studies".
A lot of pilot studies are also produced by Ph.D. students trying to write their dissertation. Principal Investigators really just mentor nowadays and only have time for research in their spare time.
The students get zero sleep between school, research, a personal life, and many have a secondary job, so they live on coffee, and thus desire to feed it to mice so that they know ahead of time if it's slowly killing them 😅
Hard to watch the first few minutes of this in 2024.
Game of thrones was still in season 5 when this came out...
I'm sorry, but the Todd Talk segment has to be one of TV's greatest achievements...
that Harry Jon Benjamin was gold
I must have missed John’s reaction to Kissinger kicking the bucket
I want to go to a TODD TALK sounds like a fun night and there better be booze there too!!
Holy shit folks ive never seen archived out for so long
Praise parrot man!
On a league of its own, this show is
Well, according to Todd, I have to go back to drinking coffee.😂
These shows hold up. Years later.
Bit confused at first, but ah this episode is way back in 2016.
13:45 basically correlation doesn’t mean causation
If only Dr. Wu had that same kind of integrity at Isla Nublar.
Priceless content. We are not worthy.
Oh my god it's a rerun I thought it was new
18:40 Some champagne, John? 🍾
It's great they put these up, but weird the playlist is reversed right now. Weirder that this is the same thing that happened with season 1 and 2 when they uploaded them.
That red wine study will be the embaressment bane of Harvard forever more.
The.... what..?
Harvard has many more reasons to be embarrased than that.
Is it just me, or does John look like he was 69ing with the embodiment of British weather?
Recap: 11 episodes, several of which mentioned Egypt's Sisi, Turkiye's Erdogan, the European migrant crisis (largely caused by Assad and Putin's treatment of Syrians), Philipino's Duterte, North Korea, but never another word about Assad or Syria unlike the first two seasons. Incredible. It's like all media systematically wiped it off the zeitgeist. Its not that I feel like Syria is owed some special coverage but the drop off in attention is heartbreaking considering how desperate syrians were to be heard at this crucial point in the conflict. Also, I can't stress enough how bizarre it is that they were full throated in their support for Syrians in the first season only to never mention it again except a brief segment in 2019 when trump threatened to pull out of NE Syria and they made no mention of Assad in it which was WILD.
It's a comedy tv show, chill out Francis. It's not called "Everything wrong with the world last week tonight". One, it's not very catchy and two, I don't think anyone's going to watch 12+ hour episodes.
@@Rolow69 I clearly have nothing better to do ok just ignore me
❤❤❤❤❤
@@Hayanomie Fair 'nuff, I can respect that.
Its not just a comedy show and you know it. Its a political show that uses satyre @Rolow69
Who cracked the champagne when kissinger kicked it?
Was that Bob belcher in the Todd talks?
The man in the white lab coat juggling eggs in the TODD event sounded like Larry David from Curb your Enthusiasm. Was it Larry David ?
Have you ever seen the show Archer?
They don't look or sound anything alike.
No
so that's what Archers voice actor looks like
The title page says "full episode". But 15 minutes has been cut from the original airing. Liar.
Could i get reliable Law and Human Behavior periodicals while they so their concerts or whatever we are doing
It's sorta like a '78% of people surveyed believe 43% of all scientists are incorrect 29% of the time' mentality when it comes to science. Cheers....
This is from season 3...years ago
Oh wow, this episode is tough to watch given we haven’t managed to get rid of the circus peanut or its handler…
Was that Bob from Bob’s Burgers?!
Where was this “healthy skepticism” and questioning of funding interests and how things are reported in 2020? And why is this being reposted in 2024?
Where have I heard that "coffee cures cancer," guy before? His voice sounds SUPER familiar, but I can't quite place it. 🤔
I ❤ BD WONG
I'm sorry but I would love to hear scientific studies narrated by the voice of Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin)!
Wow, your no longer geolocked. I used to only be able to watch from Canada with a VPN.
But an older episode :(
I know Sterling Archer when I hear him
The best 😂
11:10 somehow this hashtag combination only became more relevant as time passed...
you americans have measly 50 gram chocolate bars? In Europe the smallest is 100 gram lol
I don't need context, just the sourcing would be a huge improvement. Fishing for papers is so much fun. :|
I wholeheartedly agree with that North Korean woman's sentiment. Don't really have an issue with the American people(althought we could do better) but the American policy makers can kick rocks
Ahhh yes, the time trump and Kim first fell in love with each other..
And Putin got jealous, but luckily him and Kim eventually made up
Ppl without my degrees seem to legit be getting jealous and controlling
Encouraging under-insured citizens to drink caffeine for "health preventative benefits" is an easy way to get them to stop seeking care by masking some health complaints and becoming a blame-horse for those who still seek health care. Docs already scapegoat caffeine use in the face of legitimate heart/thyroid disorders, even if you're adamant you consume none.
6:15- 6:18 Poor translator she almost broke character of the ‘Kim worshipper’
There are like you get the job? Well the currency has to stay in circulation
Was that at her!?
Hugs are awesome,but 8?
Is that BD Wong???
Yeah the coffee good for liver bit is real, according to my doctor and dietician.
One less reason to drink champagne these days.
Aaaaand fork all has changed since 2016….
Hey there, are you “hungry”?
We're actively watching his transformation in real time.

My family doctors name is actually, Dr. Love.
the first two phrases of this title somehow doesn't go well together.
