  • 1997 F1 Champ Jacques Villeneuve shows you how it's done with some spectacular passes and crashes in this ultimate highlight video of his F1 career - and Canadian band Our Lady Peace is along for the ride.
    JV takes on Michael Schumacher, Damon Hill, Eau Rouge and an ill-handling, always-blowing BAR Honda. Highlights include Villeneuve's outside pass on Schumi at Estoril 96, the famous Jerez 97 clash, a scintillating start in Montreal and a few on-the-grass overtakes - not to mention a plethora of banged-up Williams, Saubers and BMWs.

    He did what his dad wasn't given the chance to do: Win a world championship.
    The moment that Schui tried to take him out and fail, remains one of my favourite sports memories ever.
    Thanks, Jacques!

      He's like his dad in a way he takes any chance he gets and if absolutely crazy on the track, that's why I like this family more than the hills family

    Villenueve was a young kid and was all smiles and a great racer when he won the title in Indy. Unlike Mansell he didn't have the best dominant car. He drove for Players team. He drove with less wing than any of the drivers. He used the power and sacrificed a little in braking. It took balls and skill to do that. 1000 BHP. And going to F1 as a youngster, winning straight off. Outqualifying Hill who had been driving that car for years Williams didnt want Villinueve to set his car up like he liked it. They never saw eye to eye..

  • @McLarenMercedes
    @McLarenMercedes 11 років тому +4

    What does thay say of Mike Hawthorn, Phil Hill, John Surtees and Keke Rosberg then?
    He won both the IndyCar and F1 championship. That makes him a member of an elite of 4 people with Mario Andretti, Emerson Fittipaldi and Nigel Mansell being the other members. That means he had a lot of racecraft behind him.
    He was badly managed with that Craig Pollock who was in it for the money, and signed onto the fiasco BAR team that never looked genuinely competitive.

  • @Loose89
    @Loose89 10 років тому +31

    Ah Jacques... an under rated talent due to some poor career decisions, he was arguably driving at his best in '99 and 2000 seasons, out driving BAR's which were unreliable and were mired in the midfield. He was a spirit of Gilles in many ways as he always showed maximum commitment, even when it was to his own detriment (leading to many of the accidents show here) and away from the car he was a personality that F1 sorely misses, with it now being a PR drone-fest.
    In a parallel universe where Jacques had gone to McLaren or stayed with Williams through the early 00's, I'm sure he would've been Michael's longest rival (and the one rival people say Schumacher never had during his dominance)

      Hakkinen > Villeneuve and the other Schumi "rivals". And who cares, the guy just went shit after his Championship in 97 and all he does these days is talks bullshit.

    • @Loose89
      @Loose89 10 років тому +12

      FinSituation What are you going on about? Watch Villeneuve drive in every race from 1998 to 2002 and you will see he out drove the cars he had. As for Hakkinen, I respect him and I would agree he was better than Villenueve but had both had equal cars there would not be much between them.

    • @FinSituation
      @FinSituation 10 років тому +1

      atomicRAGE Yes could be true, i just watched this video, got interested in this guy, found out that he these days pretty much only talks shit and bitter stuff, got mad, and yeah. probably a decent driver until 2002.

    • @alextavoularis8761
      @alextavoularis8761 10 років тому +14

      FinSituation Villeneuve was always a very honest person.He never hesitated to speak his mind and he paid the price for that.He was an awesome and very talented driver and he was one of the best from 1995 to 2000.He deserved at least 1 championship and he won it back in 1997.After that he went to BAR and he was driving a shitty car in a shitty team.That was the reason for his bad results after 1997.All of these stupid haters who say that JV is an awful driver are just a bunch of ignorants.When he was in a great team and was driving a good car(Williams Renault),he dominated.

    My favourite driver of the modern F1 era. He was unbelievably talented, but with a poor personality that did him no favours. He could have been a multi-time world champion had he been able to work better with his teams.

      +White Christian Coming from Indycar, Williams would not do his requested set ups when he first came to F1. After the year he won the Championship he had crap cars. As for his personality he wasn't political and spoke his mind. A refreshing change from the corporate sponsorship correct drab musings of most drivers then and now with Kimi as the exception ;)

    Sometimes I think about what would be the duels between him and Senna (already in Ferrari).

    • @Dave2LA

      there wouldnt be a duel Jacques was a mediocre driver with a good car and Senna was a legend.

    • @DJCLeandro
      @DJCLeandro 7 років тому

      David Auster Jacques was on a good moment and had the best car for 1996/97 (when he was champion, and Senna, I guess, would retire).
      Senna on Ferrari wouldn't be in the best car, would be on a team in crisis, and even if he'd be alive, I believe he'd crash anyway (FW16 issues were beyond him), and for me It'd have severe after effects which would affect his performance, mainly in racing.

    • @vinrusso821
      @vinrusso821 7 років тому +1

      All racers have to have a good car. I doubt you were old enough to watch F1 back then. Williams was almost a second a lap faster than the field. Boring Title for Mansell. Any decent driver would have won in that car. Then Mansell goes to Indy and gets Andretti;s seat, the car Andretti had won the title the last 2 years. Shumacher winning the title in the underpowered Benatton was the most impressive thing I've seen in racing.

  • @lazerpod66

    WDC= best car...in most of the case, but if the driver is good, it prevails in the rest of his career...not in Villeneuve's case. He did match Hill in 1996 because he was ultra-prepaired. In 97, yes he laminated Frentzen (which in retrospect, was a very average driver) and for the rest of his F1 career, was paired with ordinairy teammates, nothing to write home about. If he was as good as you think, he would have landed a drive in a top team...but that didn't happen. The main problem...see next.

    with Villeneuve is that he is so self centered and encapsulated within that he is both lazy technically and way way too much of aloner to suceed in any form of teamwork. He is a solitary figure(nothing wrong with that) but in racing...Schumacher(although I can't stand the guy...) is the example to follow to drive and push a team to the absolute summit.
