That avalanche starts way further away than people generally estimate - there are no objects (like buildings) to guess the scale. The speed is immense!
He didn't run because he KNEW it was pointless. He found that spot in the rocks and just took the opportunity to record that wonderful force of nature in action.

Actually, at least one did. When Mt. St. Helens erupted. One photographer, who's name I can't remember right now, died during the eruption, but he took photos as long as he could as he realized he wasn't going to make it. He then quickly hid his camera and it survived with some of the most fantastic and important photos of what happened during the eruption.
well there's a video of a teen who filmed his own death. he was drowning calling for help with a whole group of people around him and they ignored him.
In the United States, about 26 people die in avalanches each year. That’s actually a pretty large percentage (about 17%) of the more than 150 people who die in avalanches each year around the world. Thousands more are buried or partially buried but survive until rescued. Snowslides, the most common kind of avalanche, can sweep downhill faster than the fastest skier. In the mountains of the western United States, there are about 100,000 avalanches each year. And compared to most other countries the U.S. has a high number of skiers, snowboarders, mountaineers, and hikers endangered by avalanches. In addition to the danger of being hit by or buried in rocks and ice, avalanches are also dangerous because they can produce a powerful wind capable of blowing a house apart and killing a person. Furthermore, once the avalanche stops, it settles like concrete. Bodily movement is nearly impossible. Buried victims who avoid being killed in the avalanche may suffocate while awaiting rescue.
I go to a college in the mountains of Montana and if you do a ski class of any kind you have to know about avalanches and have the right equipment to get out or get someone else out. I think there’s even a whole class on it!
As a mountaineer avalanches worry me more than falls. Dying with my mouth, throat and nostrils packed with ice doesn't appeal. But the impact often does the damage before it gets that far.

He probably thought he was far enough away, didn't realise the terrain was going to curve it towards him
That avalanche starts way further away than people generally estimate - there are no objects (like buildings) to guess the scale. The speed is immense!

If he does, you don't see the video
Actually, at least one did. When Mt. St. Helens erupted. One photographer, who's name I can't remember right now, died during the eruption, but he took photos as long as he could as he realized he wasn't going to make it. He then quickly hid his camera and it survived with some of the most fantastic and important photos of what happened during the eruption.
well there's a video of a teen who filmed his own death. he was drowning calling for help with a whole group of people around him and they ignored him.
I keep hearing this, I'm starting to believe it
But sometimes they shit their pant ...
Buried victims who avoid being killed in the avalanche may suffocate while awaiting rescue.
holy crap, 100k a year is insane. Dying in an avalanche must be a terrifying way to go out
Wow thanks for the info!
I go to a college in the mountains of Montana and if you do a ski class of any kind you have to know about avalanches and have the right equipment to get out or get someone else out. I think there’s even a whole class on it!
What a shit comment
As a mountaineer avalanches worry me more than falls. Dying with my mouth, throat and nostrils packed with ice doesn't appeal. But the impact often does the damage before it gets that far.
