- 1982 Yamaha XT550 I picked up off the original owner in Boulder a few months back. Only 641 miles when I got it, cleaned carb, replaced battery, did a few minor things sold it to a bloke for almost three grand and he loved it. Sold it in less than 24 hours via craigslist. Needed to learn the technique to start it.
I’ve had many bikes and this is one if not my favourite bike . This reviewer does not t do it justice, a superb thumper for the real world. Thank you Yamaha for the sheer pleasure.
I was 19 when I bought my brand new 1983 XT550. I'm a wheelie guy and (at that time) I was amazed at the wide balance point, and throttle/clutch control,, I could comfortably ride a wheelie at 45 forever,, and slow to 15 in or until traffic wouldn't let me.
I was surrounded by farm counrty trails & tracks too. It;s light, powerful and you can throw it around in the woods. Dings & dents,, Absolutley!! (Yours; at 650m, scratch on handle, my guess is the owner got spooked, first bike, short, ?)
The XT550 is a great, underappreciated bike! I would love to have another!! Anyone??
I just received one that is complete, not in greatest shape. But I think it's going to be a great restoration project
Great find! I'm in Boulder and ride an '83 XT550... in the white and yellow color way.
The dual carb, yes primary works the lower rpm range, as the rpm increases along with throttle increase the secondary carb slide opens to meet the fuel/air for mid and full throttle. Also the intake design has a swirl effect inside the combustion chamber for more efficient ignition. It also states with both carb intakes combind they are 20% larger that the 500 series engines.
38hp 6500 rpm
44 tq. 5000 rpm.
I bought at new one, wheh it came out.. Loved it.
Great filming

I didnt know this bike existed. I´ve had a 2001 XT 600 and the engine is very alike. Is the XT600 engine a bored out version of this 550 engine?
Yes it's the precursor. A Middle between the 500 and 600
Send the bike to the Cook Island mate
Is the XT 400 still manufactured for the market
1984 xt 600 did not have eletric start
It's lovely
