Gordon Hall Jang landed his kote first, but single kote from this angle scored very rare. So instead zanshin Jang tried to strike men immediately, but couldn't complete it becouse of Takenouchi men strike.
Gordon Hall Jang did't show acepted form of kote zanshin becouse his intention of men strike. But I think that his inner zanshin state was very strong. Sorry my bad english.)
Jang didn't try to hit men after his successful kote strike; he was merely trying to cover his head with a block before zanshin which is acceptable. It's an egregious missed call.
Because if you think of the actual sword, the way Jang hit the kote wouldn't "cut" since he hit from the side. Do you think the side of the real sword which is very flat will cut anything? No, and that's why.
+M3D13V4L Well. Kendo technique has very little to do with actual swordfighting. It's the same as with european sport fencing. You don't learn how to strike with a real sword. You learn how to win at the sport.
+M3D13V4L kendo has its own merits dependent of the views or opinions of others. It isn't a used car to be sold, it's a fulfilling venture in and of itself.
I don't understand at all. They have their blades on someones neck, shouldn't that be considered a win or a point, forgive my lack of knowledge on the sport.
Demka03 Except for that rare instance in 06 where Team USA beat Japan and fought Korea... thats probably not gonna happen any time soon again but a man can dream !!! :)
Thank you. I always root for Team USA every championship. Its a hope, a slim hope but I feel like if we keep working at it, who knows. One shiai could decide it all :)
I don't think there should be rules for Kendo. If you can non stop attack with power and precision... Then why not? Why stop and wait and why are you only allowed to hit certain points? It should be like a real sword fight.
firstly, in areal sword fight with gear and armor only certain point of your body is not protected by armor or weak enough for attack random attack is pointless and makes you vulnerable only in movie or comics you will see fighter attack randomly and try to cut people in half, they will usually wait their enermy moves and shows soft spot in their armor not to mention how heavy the sword is, it is very hard to recover from a miss attack, there is no way to non stop attack with power for kendo, people play it like this to get point just like any other sport, it cant be real, practical and still be efficient to get point
+Maxim Au did I say attack randomly? Some people would have much faster brain functioning then others and can process images faster then other people. Meaning that they can attack more precisely for longer periods of time and faster then normal.
+Maxim Au actually if you look at grandmasters of Kenjutsu back in the day like 100 year olds rare footage. These dudes could have easily sliced someone in half before they blinked.
Kendo is equal part mental and physical, There is nothing in the rules that say you can't really wail on your opponent but as to score an ippon you need to land with precision , intention and discipline wailing on your opponent gets you nowhere. Kendo is less about being practical and more about being focused anyway. That's what I have always taken away while practicing it anyway.
Kendo is a simplified form of Kenjutsu for keeping your mind, speed, and body trained together. It's never really been about killing or disabling an opponent. If you want to see real fighting techniques, go practice or watch some videos on Kenjutsu. Or my personal favorite, Katori Shinto-Ryu. That shit is intense and gruesome.
korea was occupied by japan during ww2, after the war to establish self identify as a country, a lot of the activity orignated from japan are baned. To be avoid of being baned in korea, kendo is renamed to kumdo and the uniform change to white instead of black/blue.
Their style is resembling more and more of the aggressive korean style each WKC. They already lost to the US team and it looks like they can very well lose in individuals soon. The gap between Korea and Japan is non-existent nowadays. Koreans took 2nd, 3rd and 4th in 2009. 2nd and third in 2012. In this WKC, there were a lot of bad judging and stall tactics by the Japanese which is to be expected in their home country.
i just don't really like Korean Kendo, can't agree with their spirit and philosophy, it makes their kendo looks irritable and ugly. For example, Jumping-Men?? excuse me? lol!!
Jumping-Men is actually a real technique that isn't used much in modern day kendo, but can be effective to catch your opponent off-guard. There is also Jumping-Do. The one handed Jumping-Men.
This wasn't a just a kendo combat, this was a true samurai battle.
who brings a baby to a kendo tournament???
interesting situation at 5:27. Thank you kendo-world for this video and replays
I thought it would be a kote hit for the white?
@@Jason-sh2xc it looked like black had blocked it with the hand guard
@Van Dijk Looks more like he didnt hit with the right side of the shinai, his wrists arent bend enough to strike that angle.
4:28
ohhhhh....your video is brilliant! I did not see it at the time!!!!
If it hadn't been slowed down I would've never noticed.
@Kurt Williams You in Primary school?
idc what the judges thought that was a beautiful kote either way
curious why Korea didn't score kote? while Japan got ippon on men? (I'm a kendo beginner.)
Gordon Hall Jang landed his kote first, but single kote from this angle scored very rare. So instead zanshin Jang tried to strike men immediately, but couldn't complete it becouse of Takenouchi men strike.
SheylaFireCrow thanks. I thought it was lack of zanshin.

don't you have to call out what kind of strike you want to go for? they don't seem to be yelling much. is that more of a dojo thing?
Usually you always call out after a successful hit but sometimes in practice you call out before, kinda tricky.
so did tht head tap at the end count ?
yes
4:28の小手が有効にならなかったののと同じ様に5:30の小手は有効にはならない。
当てればいいと言う事でない。
Can someone explain how the scoring system works. I know they are awarded to see who has the most points by 3, but how do they score?
you score a point by hitting the top of the head (men), hands (kote) or sides of the torso (do)
@@bigbilly3816 Thanks
They both are great
Agreed.
5:30 Korean got kote first and zanshin was good, a miss call for my opinion, but maybe judge saw what I don’t see.
Paul Chang i think you can't get an ippon by hitting from down to up
A sword cut is always from up to down
@@oscarnguyen4659 too young too simple
kote......
I don't know what the fuck is happening but the moment at 4:11 looked hella cool
0530 : bad / wrong call (!)
While watching this I try to imagine these techniques being used with proper swords but then I see them pressing up against each other.
+M3D13V4L Well. Kendo technique has very little to do with actual swordfighting. It's the same as with european sport fencing. You don't learn how to strike with a real sword. You learn how to win at the sport.
You're so good at selling Kendo.

Absolute

You have to hit your opponent to score in Kendo. Having your blade on your opponents neck just make their strikes invalide.
there are special areas that you have tonhit in kendo for getting a point.the neck is not on of those areas

This is the main point if kendo. Just keep working out!
of course korea would wear different colour

Hmm Kendo is not like in anime at all
韓国選手は竹ノ内選手の小手返し面に誘われた。

Bad ass
They should add punching
KAREN TIGER that’s no Kendo then
Heard the Koreans invented "Kumdo" thing and the whole universe, seems not legit to me anyway.

And its the wierdos who say that. Most korean kendokas don't even care about kendo history, and many are against KKF's wierd decision to lie about it.

Quality of japanese kendo going down every year.
