- Good morning everyone! So today we have a video for you that my editor put together to make it one long unsegmented continuous shot. at this delivery we've been here before but I can't remember the name of the video that I did before but I know I was here at this delivery site prior time and when I find the name of the video I'll link it down in the description. We pulled up on site and the customer has a really long driveway now when you look at it on the map it looks to be the longest drive that I have ever seen and the guy expects us to drive down there after paying for a curbside delivery. in the previous delivery we left the material according to viewers 200 feet beyond curbside and the customer misinformed the shipper and told them that we did not give him a call ahead. quite honestly the cell phone signal in that part of the town really isn't too good so I'm not surprised that he did not receive the phone call that I made prior to arrival. when we pulled up on site the customer told us that he told the shipper he wanted no curbside whatever that supposed to mean but basically he wants it all the way down his driveway We told him we are not going to drive that far of a distance. from the video you can see that you tried to bribe us and thought 100 bucks was going to just solve the problem. what are you guys thinking leave it down in the comment section and then maybe I'll do another video later to have the discussion. Would’ve been an easy $100 bucks, I don’t think he’d be liable if it’s damaged, customer gave consent to bring it down there on film, but I get his concern, but as a construction worker I’ll gladly drive the forklift anywhere I guess 😂 as long as I can sit down and chill and drive for a little bit haha

I was a dump truck driver for over 20 years and I had some jobs where I had to go to residential homes and the problem is most people dont realize how heavy the truck is and how much damage it can do to their property and if the driver decides to chance it, it's all on the driver for taking that chance. Electrician here. Had a customer complain we “tore up the lawn” installing a solar panel in the backyard…she was upset we trenched from the house to the panel..not sure how she wanted us to wire it? Maybe she thought she could just use an extension cord 😅😂but I commend your patience! Great customer service!

You're already driving through potholes up the driveway why not just check the rest of the driveway out and help them out and make some extra cash I'm sure as long as it's good enough driveway why not do it

It's just amazing how so many customers know so much about driving a Moffett. I get this all the time. The one I love is "I've got the fence open at the back and you can drive through and put the stuff in the backyard". Of course it's an 8 foot gap. Say no more

@@dustyflair We do what we can to try to get the materials closest to the job site as possible for the customer but sometimes there are site restrictions and sometimes people want us to drive across their lawns etc etc
Respect going to you because of you always being a professional even when customers try to get you to things that are unprofessional
If he don't like the deliver he can always come by the store with a goose neck equipment trailer and pick the load up himself

My wife is a market manager all the drivers love her as their manager she will drive out to addresses to disqualify them she also will follow the drivers and deal with the customers. She tells the stores to pound sand for the drivers. Imagine making deliveries in Los Angeles just as difficult as country roads

I couldn’t tell what the man said as he walked away. I figured he was mouthing off, because he didn’t get his way. $100 wouldn’t be enough to cover the possible damage to his truck.
A lot of people on here seem to have a lot to say about what you do. I have no knowledge about this work but you do as much as is feasible without putting yourself at risk. You are courteous, knowledgeable and won’t be brow beaten or intimidated into doing something which financially could have an impact on you and your family. Keep going I think you’re great.

I just want to say that when I first found this channel I kind of thought , Man , He could have helped that guy out & He didn't. Then as I saw more & more videos , I started to understand why He cant help some of those People. Now I feel for the Guy. He is kind of stuck being "That Guy" , as He is the Guy between the shipper & the customer. I really respect the way He handles Himself while dealing with the customers. I mean , the Guys job is difficult enough without having deal with that crap. Also very smart to only accept a tip when the job is done. There is a 100% difference between a tip for a job well done , & someone trying bribe You to do something , before the straps are even off. I would compare it to someone tipping a waiter before they order food at a restaurant , it just doesn't happen. Always enjoy your videos Man.
I have actually tipped my waiter before receiving service, just a few times to see what its like. Takes away the whole dynamic of seeing the bill and trying to work out whats what.

The body cam would show that it was damaged before delivery therefore negating any liabilities on the drivers part. It wouldn't matter what pics the customer took at that point. This is very simple 1+1 type of math which you, ma'am seem to be having difficulty figuring out. You're good for recording your deliveries. Dealing with some ppl expect everything they can get. I would enjoy working for a Company that has a Supervisor such as yourself. I learned decades before my accident there are a lot of nice people and others that are out to get all of anything they can out of you making out as though a driver owes them something just because they bought something in a store. Level headed-ness.

Yeah that plaster board was on some weak ass pallet. The long supporting timber was like 1.5 inches thick. Should be at least 3 inches thick to take the weight. Never have I seen plaster board on such a shoddy supporting pallet.

The weight is incredible even before the load, and imagine the brakes, the steering etc, amazing machines, but stressful when blocked by a car or bad customer

I lived in rural Oregon. We had a construction company. Narrow 1000 ft driveway thru the woods. It had a circle at the top of drive. We got semi deliveries. Those drivers were amazing. Lot of pulling up and backing up to avoid the trees. We applauded as they headed out

There's always a previous injury that reminds me how SAFETY is priority on a job site.
The other day, while digging a ditch in the drizzling rain, my footing became tenuously unstable. I kept sliding in the mud, when I decided to call it quits. The lingering pain is incentive enough to keep mindful of the dangers when you spot them. Ya, sure, the job was late, but time lost from the injury is the worst option.

Hardie board is used for stucco and backer board for tile installation. I'm a tanker driver that delivers paint to the plants that make this stuff and the binder that basically glues the concrete and fibers together to make the boards. Your exactly right that stuff is extremely heavy . 1 board weighs typically 10 to 20 pounds pending on length and width. Good job driver you do whats right and what is safest.

That $100 would look pretty silly in the face of $1000 of damaged product. The more delicate stuff would likely have cracked from the bumpy ride for sure. The bounce you feel on those things is huge compared to a pickup truck driving down a gravel road.

You are correct about Hardy siding, it’s very flimsy whilst handling it but it sure does make an outstanding finished product. We install Hardy siding using a roofing gun, nailing every 8-10”. Hardy trim we use a standard 2” trim gun.

My comments are really for the people buying the products you haul. Your “Lift” aka Moffett weighs around 7000 pounds & is as wide as your Freight liner truck. People do not realize how treacherous it is hauling product down a narrow wet pot hole road, with bushes & trees on each side. Potentially getting a lift stuck in mud or a wet area with customers order and potentially damaging it is not enjoyable. I like the comment one of your subscribers wrote:about him “getting his own truck with a gooseneck trailer”. The delivery parameters require common safety sense. You truly have that and to be commended for your calm explanation. I did those deliveries for HD & the store associates promised customers orders to be set up on balconies or on a roof or in a back yard over the fence or through a gate not wide enough to drive a lift through. Or carried up the stairs. The Curbside delivery is consistent with the minimum fee of $70.00 they are charged. If one wants to rent a crane to have product put at the job site on an exact spot then thats their option. Keep up the good work. Stay Safe and I truly appreciate your video & commentary. I no longer wanted to deal with the issues you tackle daily. The very few times I got stuck in mud in a yard the customer said “oh I didn’t know it was that moist”. Then trying to tug the lift out of a 2 foot mud bog with my truck & chains. I finally said PhukIt. So I am went back to hauling & delivering on my own terms. No hauling mulch, drywall, pink insulation or fence panels or 20 foot wide lumber. Got to give you accolades for dealing with it. Funny thing was I got tips now and then, usually on the easiest deliveries.
Worst load I ever hauled was cardboard. Not heavy but slippery as all get out. What drivers have to put up with is nuts sometimes.

When I was replacing my roof a couple years ago I had the materials delivered. They said they would deliver the shingles to the roof. I didnt believe them. I was surprised they brought the semi down my road. However they did do exactly what they said they would. The shingles were put on the roof, and the skid of osb was set just inside the garage. It was much better than the last time when I picked up the materials my self, having to carry shingles up a ladder sucks.

They once booked a load of 25ft metals beams but forgot to check if we had a ramp to bring down a forklift to unload the beams. Me and the driver carried each of the 84 100lbs beam by hand.

Off the ground and stacked 6 racks high…ass end came up many times

It is amazing how jerky so many people seem to be these days. You are a true professional who does a good safe job of delivering the loads and you deal pretty well with some very hard to deal with people.
People want a cabin way out in the middle of nowhere and don't want to be inconvenienced when they need a service.

However if you change the baseline and say I'm going to deliver it to the house. You have still given 100%.

I guess I'm either missing something or I'm confused, one or the other or a combination of both. When I first started learning to drive a forklift I was taught to ALWAYS drive with the radiator into the wind.

@@SaffordDelivery ... radiator into the wind makes no sense because all equipment has a pusher style fan, which means it blows outward no matter which way you face.
@@rupe53 I suspect it's nothing to do with engine cooling rather than direction of travel. Unless you're picking up or setting down a load, best practice is to drive the forklift with the load behind you so you can see where the hell you're going. To tell a newbee to drive with the rad into the wind was probably an easy way to remember.
@@retiree1033 ... the real answer is to drive with the load facing up hill so if you hit a bump or pothole the load doesn't slide off the forks. As someone who used a forklift for 25 years I would say 90% of the time the load is short enough that driving forward is not an issue for visibility. On a tall load you have the option to go in reverse and having a spotter is also a good idea. BTW, driving into the wind for cooling is a non-issue. (I also worked on these things)

Where I live ( island of Hawaii) in a rural area, we have roads way worse than this. I've driven tow truck and have done a lot of rough areas, it is very difficult. My neighbor house sold and the new owners re did the 100 year old house. They had the local lumber house deliver twice. First time the driver was alone and I let him park on my frontage strip to get him off the highway. I even put on my bright vest and directed traffic so he could unload. We live right at the end of a s turn on the upper highway. I even let him use my drive and a solid crossover path for his lift ( my side is less steep and has more width) he was very appreciative. Next load was drywall and such finish supplies. He did bring a helper and it was easier to direct both lanes of traffic this time. Even on my less steep concrete driveway, I was surprised by how much tire skid he had while braking. We kind of became friends and he came back to say thanks. I can definitely sympathize with some of the issues you encounter. It always pays to do a good but safe job.
When you say the customer pays for curbside delivery you make it sound like they can pay to have it delivered to their site. How much does that cost?
These companies make all kinds of promises, to earn our business, which misleads the customer then these drivers show up talking about what they cant do and what not. False advertising at its finest.
My cost doubled to have a 500lb countertop delivered into my house. It was made very clear that curbside meant at the end of my driveway. It’s money we’ll spent IMO.
Well.. Dont order for "curbside" lol. And specify IF a truck might not be able to make it all the way & they'll make sure they have the proper equipment to get it where it needs to go... I build houses for a living.. One site was on top of a mountain & the whole way up was sketchy as hell.. Watched a driver drive the forklift past the sketchy part, then used his boom truck to move the material from the truck, onto the lift & then drove the lift the rest of the way. It was pretty aweaome!
And the cost of the delivery will depend on what you're having delivered.
@@extendo8977 But the driver tells the customer paid for curbside delivery like he knows that for sure. I guess the driver needs to look at the sales contract so he doesn't get in these sort of situations.
Furthermore I’ve seen plenty of houses built in every one delivered up the driveway which was not short in most cases never seen a bundle sitting on the sidewalk
I build houses for a living.. The reason our shit doesn't get dropped on the side of the road is because A. We dont order for "curbside" drops lol or B. We DO have it dropped as close as possible & then we bring it the rest of the way ourselves if the delivery truck can't make it safely.. Not hard to do if you're actually prepared.
