What a great video! Informative, good sound quality, no wasted time watching bolts be removed slowly and no horrible music! Great job! Thanks!
Nice to see someone else using a sock rag, I use the exact same thing in my garage :)
I don't understand why people keep telling me I can't do this, and it is so hard...I own the chilton manual to this car, I read it I follow directions well, not a stranger to the junkyard...great video! thanks!

My 1998 Nissan Altima has water in the oil, question? What to do.
man with the proper tools, a manual and some basic ability you can fix most the average things on your car, brake pads, oil changes, gaskets etc. having the right tools are probably 80% of the job, get ta wrenching!!!

I'm having trouble getting the gasket to stay on the cover as I flip it over and tips to help thanks again
Thank you!
Since the audio cuts out, torque them first to 35 in. lbs. Then torque them to 69-95 in. lbs.
INCH pounds NOT ft./lbs.
Sorry, what does 69-95 in pounds mean?. Does that mean anywhere between 69-95 inch pounds or what? I'm new. Can you help?
7 years ago, my ex wife called me telling me her engine was smoking. Found oil leaking from the valve cover. Ordered these gaskets for about 8-15 bucks if i remember correctly. Took me 30 minutes to replace it. Someone had used RTV to try to seal it previously, and half of the cover bolt holes were stripped out of the head. I couldve drilled and tapped some over-sized bolts, but we didnt plan on keeping the car for long, and the half that did have good threads were distributed evenly enough to get a good seal. I just cant believe that someone was too cheap to buy a 15 dollar gasket, AND stripped all those bolt holes out 🙄
Nice video thank you 👍
No problem. Thank you for watching. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
I've tried this twice. i'm still getting oil in spark plug hole #4. I put a sealer on the spark plug hole gasket so it won't move. What am i doing wrong? Could it be the cheap gasket i use fron EBAY?
great video. Do you guys have one on how to replace the manifold gasket on the nissan altima 2000?
+Elaine Flores We currently do not have an auto repair video specific to your vehicle. We will keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future. Have a great day! 1aauto.com
@ 1:13, what is that metal piece that connects from the valve cover to the hose? the little metal piece that sticks outta the valve cover? is that mounted on the valve cover, or can that little piece be replaced by itself? just curios, thanks :)
Sorry, I'm new. What torque wrench do I buy for this to get it to 69in/95pound setting?
Great Fantastic Awesome Video
When Replacing:
Recommended that the 🔩 bolts be placed & turned Evenly (pressured) by hand.
(Like changing a tire)
Not one side then the other.
Now you can use your 🔧 tool (Torque at specified) or tighten but not to Damage the Gasket Seal. 🤷
Great video and thank you for it. Is it almost the same for a 2000 Nissan maxima GLE? Thank you in advance.
+kmshep jonson Thanks for checking us out! It may be a similar procedure, but we do not have a video for this on your exact vehicle.
at 1:04, what is the name of that hose connected to valve cover? I was replacing my valve cover gasket and I found out this hose is severely split. now Im trying to find it but I cant even locate a part number on the nissan parts website.
+Andres Quintero Hello Andres. That appears to be a some sort of intake air breather hose.
Would this explain oil in the spark plugs and an erratic idle?
S
Thank you for watching! Oil leaking past the seal for the spark plug tube is common. Oil will then get on the tip of the plug which can cause misfires or erratic idling. Hope this helps!

Awesome, thanks -great advice & much appreciated
S
3 of the valve cover bolts snapped off when I torqued them down they were old and rusty 😭 they don’t have them in stock either at parts store how could I get the broken end out without damaging the head
If a misfire has occurred causing a misfire and causing the engine to cut off while driving and there is oil in the spark plug area would it be ideal to change out the spark plugs as well?
+ronthatus Thanks for your inquiry. There could be multiple reasons why you're having this particular problem. We suggest taking your vehicle to a nearby reputable shop to identify the cause.
Any advice on doing the same fix on a 2007 model?
Unfortunately we do not have a video for your application. We will however keep it in mind for future videos. Thanks for watching.

+Ejr Breather hose for the PVC system.

+street punx Thanks for checking us out!
Is this considered the head gaskets ? Or is that something else?
Valve cover?
Why won't anyone answer!?
@@roehee1234 it's called the valve cover gasket
What are the torqe specs bruuh
The audio cuts out right when you say the amount to torque the bolts to.
+TheMsdos25 Thanks for checking us out. The torque specification will differ depending on the application. We would suggest checking a repair manual specific to your vehicle to find that information. Thank you!
@@1AAuto Mine IS a 1998 Nissan Altima and I don't have a manual. Why didn't you give the specs for the vehicle you're working on and say that a different vehicle might be different?
What was the torque spec
+jcub19 Thanks for checking us out!
Updated Torque Spec for valve cover bolts/nuts:
1st pass: 35 inch pounds
2nd pass: 69 to 95 inch pounds

Great Video and very infomative but... A SOCK?!? Really? At least cut it in half... Also (as a mechanic) I would recommend removing the wedding ring. I have seen three instances in my career (30+ years) where that ring caused much grief (one lost the finger at the knuckle, one literally skinned his entire finger, and one charred the entire finger via 24V 600A short, gold is an excellent conductor) I always wore mine on a chain around my neck.
Thanks for watching! 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Great advice but i don't think working with a chain around your neck the best idea when leaning over a engine bay...but they do make these rubber ring replacements that you can wear at work.
No gasket glue?
+Chris Heit Thanks for checking us out! If you would like to use a little bit of that you certainly can, however it would make the next replacement a little more involved to get swapped out.
Why was no rtv used anywhere???
In this video we use the correct gaskets instead of RTV. When new gaskets are used you do not need RTV. Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Paid $250 for this to get done and it they still got oil in the spark plug hole
Going to do myself this time.

@@1AAuto I didn't notice any sealant or anything being used, Can the valve cover can be put back on without any?
@@kingofhisworld1 yeah many gaskets don't require any liquid goop sealant. i tried it before way back, listening to someone I knew and it sucked dealing with it later.
Do not torque to 12ft.lbs you will snap every single bolt. Do your diligence and research the correct specs yourself.
what are the specs?
where is the pcv valve???
Hello and thank you for using our content on UA-cam. The PCV valve is not visible in this video as it is deeper in the engine, on the firewall side, and is between the PCV hose from the intake manifold and engine block. +jose mendez
You didnt show the part where you took your sock off 😂
the torque should be 7 f-lb per Nissan !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 69-95 in-lb !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a 2.4 not a 2.5 😐
Don;t use a torque wrench you will snap the bolts also you should probably use brand new bolts to put it back in
