Cletus The III every guitar review video on UA-cam is just like this. I’ve been trying to find a beginner’s electric guitar for a few hours.
Midnight Library same!
I strongly urge you to do some research and learn about the things he's talking about before you buy one, just so you understand what you're buying.
Me but I’ve been watching so many videos that I’m getting the hang of it lmbo 🤣
@@s1n_eater have you found one? here's the best advice. Go to a store. You will only like what feels good in your hands. Get the cheapest version of that one. Learn. Get a better one.
bored in quarantine and need a hobby. been wanting to play for years and this was very helpful. thank you!

Exactly the same, been meaning to learn for years. What did you choose in the end

In response to most questions here: I think the type and brand of the guitar is not that important the first year. You first need to play. A playable guitar is then paramount, that means set up, which a shop can do for you. Buying online makes that more uncertain. Then you need an amp that gives you the sound you like, clean or dirty. So there is some preference (country, blues, metal etc) that determines your guitar, but you'll have to learn to play and your type or brand will not destroy your first year, it's playability that matters (and of course determination and discipline). Yamaha Pacifica, for example, is a good starter guitar, be it not iconic. After a year you better know what you want and what you need, and you will want to change anyway. So don't be paralized by this choice.
I wonder how this will turn out for me in that regard - I was pretty picky and spent quite a lot of time searching for what I wanted (as much as somebody who never played guitar could know, based on gathered info). So ended up choosing a HSH (but would be equally OK with HH) with a thin, flat (17'') neck (Ibanez RG). Not sure if this already screams metalhead? 🤣
ATM just 4 months in, so it remains to be seen how much my preferences change along the way. I'm actually really curious about that.
And I do agree with well set up guitar. Haven't had much luck in that department so far, though. 🤣
Ended up buying online because I'm a lefty and disliked the only easily available lefty guitar (local shop). I was supposed to get a professionally set up guitar, only to find out later it wasn't. High action, twisted neck, bridge angle wrong (a floating bridge) and unevenly set from behind. Paid for another setup (different guitar tech). Another failure. Neck MIGHT be straight this time but the action was set so low it buzzes all over the neck like an angry hive. The bridge is now even from behind but the angle is still wrong (in a similar way as the first setup, only slightly better - but slightly better doesn't really work in this case...).
So, now it's gonna be my turn to try to set it up. Never done that before, obviously. But honestly, not sure if it's possible to get a worse result that the two above. 🤣 I do know what's the correct angle for the trem, at least... (Let's say I know how to search for information.) 😑 (But yes, a local luthier will check what I've done to it, in January. Finally found a true professional. 😊)
I feel like if I happened to buy a guitar with a fixed bridge from either of these supposed professionals (both sell set up guitars, legit businesses) and it happened to be set up as mine was/is - how long it'd have taken me to realize there was something wrong? I found out very easily because of the trem not working as it's supposed to.
So, in the end I'm actually glad I went "crazy" and bought a guitar with the label "not suited for beginners"... 😂 because learning on a badly set up guitar (let's say the neck and action issues mentioned above) is not much fun, at least that's what my experience is.
EDIT: I should add that I understand that experiencing all the above would be very discouraging for many beginners and I wouldn't go and recommend any beginner a guitar with a Floyd Rose. However, I'm not affected by all what happened in such way. The only thing that truly bothers me is the low skill level of the guitar techs I've encountered and it came as a big surprise to me.
Never touched a guitar before and really want to get into playing rock such as Mötley Crüe (Mick Mars)
And Tommy Lee Jones, Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil

Who else is just trying to find something to do for quarantine
Me but I've also wanted to play for some time now
As a birthday gift for my brother I picked up a used 2006 Epiphone SG G-400 in great condition with hard shell case for $225.00. He's a beginner and this guitar is awesome. Light and slim with awesome sounds. Highly recommended. BTW, for my niece's 16th birthday I bought her a 16 year old Fender Stratocaster made in Mexico in great condition for $300.00.
When he brought up Eric Clapton my mind instantly thought of the opening riff to Layla
I love metal and I just started out this helped find my guitar thanks.!
I have an Ibanez acoustic which I've had since I was 13, I'm 23 now. Looking into getting my first electric. Your video is very helpful.
Extremely informative and honest reviews!
Glad you like them!
This was well done. Bravo.
This was very useful info. thanks
This is awesome! Thank you!
15:20 when he’s staring in the camera I just can’t stop thinking he looks like sully from monsters ink🎸
I bought one of those Ibanez GRX70QATEB guitars several years ago back when I wanted to get a guitar with a tremelo. I had a decent Epiphone Les Paul already. I usually stay within $500 to $600 on a guitar, so the Ibanez was a great deal for $199! I've always wanted a nice Gibson, but I'll be 100% honest, my wife would not be very pleased with me if I dropped a few thousand on a guitar. Anyway That Ibanez is really a very nice guitar if you are just starting out. I would definitely agree its a good guitar. They have several great colors as well. The quilted green one is absolutely beautiful. I like green a lot, so I really appreciate the way it looks!
I had no idea that a strat dounded like that! I wanted a heavier sound and almost bought a strat with three single pickups! Thanks for showing me that beautiful Ibanez
No problem!
If you don't want to spend much, you can change the bridge and/or neck pickup with a good humbucker.
They are very versatile guitars. I've seen people cover heavy music with strats.
This video was so helpful. Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Thank you. Such a great video.
ıt was the most helpfull beginner guitars video. thank you so much and you look like a very good man. ı just wanted to say

Thanks for the info. It helps a lot.
Great knowledge on what to do and how to do it, buyers have a great advantage these days with videos and companies making better products.
Thanks - I just bought the SG G-400 Pro based on this review!
After watching this video I really like the Ibanez GRX70QA as my official first guitar. I ordered one online love the blue guitar its my favorite color. I got it due to covid 19 being stuck at home needed to distract myself during the night. And had downloaded rocksmith on the ps4 for $5 on sale. It has been a great distraction!

Great job, it'll be great when I can play at your level, having fun in the meantime. You've almost got me wanting the Epiphone SG and the Tele. Love my Affinity HSS Strat, have you reviewed that? Thanks
That would be an impressive collection! We haven't but we can let Chris know that a viewer requested one!
@@AlamoMusic thanks, I went by Guitar Center today in part from your review, they had those two in my price range and I'd buy them before I'd buy an expensive amp. Thanks for letting Chris know,I look forward to his input
Awesome! Any time! Thanks for watching btw!
Thx very helpful video been wanting to play for years always been my fav instrument though I don’t have experience with instruments so choosing a beginner guitar is really hard! 😅
Glad it was helpful!
Curious to what guitar amp you were using with all the guitars? Im familiar with guitar, mostly acoustic BUT I do know the amplifier has a big impact on sound, not just the guitar but... It can go both ways. Nice video!
Dang, he's really good! I almost forgot I was supposed to be shopping for a guitar lol...
I wish I had any of these guitars when I started playing 10 years ago. Instead I had a local brand strat with some 0.11 Ghs strings set up way high that would slice my finger tips in half. Band practice was also terrible with those Line6Spider amps that sounded like a beehive next to a mic. That if you was able to be heard at all near the drummer. So now you have way better options. I am using an Ibanez RG, an interface and a laptop with VSTs as effects. I can get whatever sound I can imagine, even shimmer or squeelies.
Thank you for the advise God bless and loves you Amen 🙏🏽✝️🙏🏽❤️
The last one though 😭😍
Thanks
Outstanding Demo.
Awesome video.
I have been waiting for you to update this video! So happy & excited! But how do you know what style you play if you don't have a guitar yet?
I think the best way would be to play with a friend and try theirs out if you know anybody with a guitar. If not, you can get really good deals on used guitars and go from there. Good luck!
If you don't know what type of style to play then I suggest just going to a guitar shop and try it out. If a guitar appeals to you then you would have a better vision of what you like to play.
@@natlis00 Thanks for the great advice! I did just that last week, and fell in love with a Squire CV Telecaster which I didn't even know I wanted until it was in my arms!
Don't be influenced by Motley Crue. You will suck if you do that. Listen to some Partridge Family albums to get started. After that , maybe listen to some albums done by The Archies. Just make sure to stay away from The Crue. You would learn better tone by listening to your cat defecating .
Well I have had my guitar for 2 years think it's time to learn
Dear Chris, can you please also do a small video on beginners amps (specs to look for) thank you!

I can’t believe this man is telling me that I can get a Stratocaster for $125

Do you think an Ibanez RG421 is a good beginner guitar? I know it has a fixed bridge so I’m wondering if I should start off with it.
I’ve never owned a guitar but I really really want one Bc I listen to Iron Maiden, Metallica, and others
I don't need a new guitar but I really appreciate that you called position one the neck pickup even if it was by accident. ;) 2:30 Cheers
I’m a beginner , I’ve been wanting to play the guitar for a while now but Idk where to start. I’d really like to cover Kurt kobains songs lol
I used to be just like you when i first started my dude. Love Kurt Cobain, You probably want to buy a Fender Jaguar/Mustank because that's what he played, or get something that has atleast one Humbucker pickup on it.
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE SONG HE PLAYED @8:30!!?? 🔥🤯 I’m trying to learn it ASAP
I did a random search on Google and that 1st Squire you showed was the first thing that came up with the pack. I tried learning to play acoustic when I was a freshman in HS and got lessons in my local music store. A combination of things led me to quitting, I think I just got bored with an acoustic and having to go out of my way for the lessons. If I can get into electric now and use the internet to learn, maybe I'll be able to commit more.
There are a lot of great resources to learn online now. Stick with it, it's worth it!
@@AlamoMusic What online sources do you recommend for learning?
Some good UA-cam channels to check out would be Marty Music, Justin Guitar, and Andy Guitar. Fender also has an app that you can learn on, and if you wanted some personalized online lessons Alamo Music has tutors who teach online!
@@AlamoMusic Thanks for the info! I'll look around at all those options and consider purchasing through Alamo Music Center as you seem to have a great selection.
Anytime!
Not sure why this popped up in my feed when it's an older video, but here's my two cents...
I bought a MiM Telecaster a while ago - as much because I loved the looks as anything. I found it quite hard to play.
I bought a Squier Mustang, that was much easier to get to grips with. I've since improved (not much!) to the point where I prefer the Tele (it's got such a great tone), but I'd strongly recommend the Mustang for absolute beginners
San Antonio TX!!! Hell yeah!!!
Tercero do you know Diego Zamora.
Can you please please please make a review of the Grestch Root Collection accoustic guitars? Im particularly interested un the style 3 model. Thanks a lot !!!
I have an Ibanez gio and it always had been a good guitar. But now if you hit the switch it'll the sound will cut in and out on it, same thing with the pickups. I haven't played In quite awhile and never had a lesson. And in looking for something to play 50s music with. I'd love gretsch but they're a little more on the expensive side. Being left handed doesn't help me out a whole lot either.
Playing SRV on .09's just sounds all wrong.
Good video though. Trying to figure out what to do after not having played for around 10 years.
Look him in the eyes when he's playing the classic vibes telecaster lmao
I have at least one of just about every "cheap" guitar ever shipped out of a variety of Asian factories. I like EVERYone of them! Also, I only buy used which makes them cheaper still. I seriously think that the Asian factories simply build one strat style, one tele, etc. etc. Along comes Squier, Aria, Ibanez, Yamaha, bla, bla and they order 5 thousand of the appropriate body style which lies in the Asian factory warehouse. The factory installs writing on the headstock as dictated by the buyer, into the belly of a big boat they go. These instruments are distributed among our outlets where we consume them. We are somehow convinced that these cloned guitars are widely different from each other and that this headstock logo is so much better sounding than that one. DUH! You only have to compare the various logos to each other on UA-cam to realize that they all sound identical because they are made of identical components. I admit that I may unfairly generalizing here but the bottom line is - it is so simple to make the required adjustments to any cheap guitar that will make it as playable, as enjoyable as any expensive guitar! Unfortunately the vendors of the cheap will seldom make any effort to adjust the action/intonation to make your new purchase a rewarding experience. Ergo aspiring guitarists are dumping their guitars with high action and bloodied fret ends on the online 2nd hand sites. And finally, the biggest difference between a properly setup cheapo and a beauty expensive guitar is the amplifier. Side by side the 2 categories will sound different from each other but they are both wires wrapped around magnets. Price tags and logos influence wallets not ears.
I’ve seen a lot of videos that say to avoid those packs. The guitars and amps never sound good and it discourages people from continuing with their playing. Take time to save more to get better gear. If a squier is what you can get, cool. Otherwise, save for a fender. I bought an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Pro as my first guitar and I’ve found it’s not as comfortable as I’d like so I’m looking around for new ideas. Unfortunately we are all in quarantine and guitar centers are closed. Boo!
Hey I want to play kinda heavier rock so do you think the Ibanez would be the best guitar for that if my budget is ~400? I like bands such as Nirvana, MCR, Muse, Motley Crue, and the Artic Monkeys, thank you :))
Ibanez has great guitars you would probably be satisfied with one of those! However an Epiphone SG has a great tone and I think it would fit your style pretty well! It's also around your price range ($450) Let us know what guitar you end up deciding on!
P.S. The second link is a bit cheaper (:

I am 13 years old and want to start playing. I know a couple of chords but have only been using a 3/4 length acoustic. I have heard electric is easier, and I like the sound better. Which one do you guys recommend?
the fender squier stratocaster is really easy to play. if you can, you should try out some guitars at a guitar shop so that you know what you like
Eric Dooley I would highly recommend the squire affinity strat. I’ve been playing for about 10 months and it’s unreal. It’s not as cheap sounding as the bullet, it’s a bit more pricey but spending that extra bit to get a nicer tone is huge.
@Dion St. Michael maybe in the future....
Been playing for 30+ years, if you're really interested in playing, don't be scared, go to a music store and ask for a strap, don't get rushed, find guitars in your price range (or parents) and spend some time handling them and see what feels right, if you can't play yet, have someone play the ones you like so you can hear how they sound. Let the guitar kind of pick you, if that makes sense.
Eric Dooley Inbaniz
Not sure if you guys plan on making an updated video, because this was really great. Im as beginner as it gets, and love the look of that classic vibe telecaster. Would you recommend it for someone who will like to learn music by the Strokes, Growlers, The Voidz, or just alternative and indie in general. My current budget is right around 400$ and other recommendations like it, would greatly be appreciated. I just love the classic looking stuff. Thank You!!
I would reccomend this Squier Paranormal series below! It should give you just the sound you're looking for! It comes in a few different color to btw! Also a big part of electric is the amp so make sure to listen to demos of those before you get one. Let us know what you decide on (:

I play acoustic guitar (idont want to stuck with accoustic sounds) will I get through with electric guitar? I want to play rock band riffs
I wish there was an Sterling Axis on this list for comparison or maybe a different budget Ernie Ball guitar.
good advice thank you
That telecaster is for me :P
Well I've always wanted to play a guitar however I don't really know how and don't I have no confidence and a lot of sibling which can be bad because they can easily get annoyed I actually have an acoustic but it's broken. After watching k-on I really wanna be in a band that sounds pretty childish considering k-on is a child's show, but its whateva
K-on is a great show! It actually inspired me to practice guitar more. Their songs are so good. I even got a Les Paul because of Yui!
Honestly same Nana, K-On, and Given really made my feelings of wanting to learn and play guitar much more known. I took guitar my freshman year of hs but I don’t remember that much other than like one chord lol. But believe me it’s not childish to feel that connection to something even if it’s an anime that influences you!!
Can u do a review of the freedom guitar
Getting the ibanez thx to u man, been a boring ass quarantine need a new hobby

I have a Gio my local shop sold me in a kit w/ everything; amp, guitar, pics, etc. Couldn’t be tuned. Couldn’t hold a tune if you got it tuned. Fret ends would slice you up and down. Is Ibanez actually good now? Thank you.
What guitar would you recommend for country/rock no heavy metal
when will the stratocaster pack be available?
hi! i’ve really wanted to play electric guitar for years now and i’m finally giving in! I’m planning on playing a lot of Indie/Alternative/Classic Rock, but i’m not sure which guitar to get 🤔 my price range is anything under around 200$, if you have any ideas i’d love to hear them!! thank you 😊😊
Hmm some great guitars for those styles are Fender Strats, and Gibsons, but in your price range an Ibanez could also do really well. They are a good quality and it should definitely keep you satisfied till you want to upgrade! Put the link below! If you have any other questions please let us know!
