What would become of these communities, if they gradually bring family members along with them, who don't share their values? How do they insure that their children will retain their values? I argue that for many, if not most young people, the greatest influence on them is other youth and youth/pop culture. Many families fled my predominately Black city for the predominate Black sections of the country, and the counties have shown some decline since. Their school's performance has declined, but still is better than the city's, and services there are not on par with those in White sections. I believe it is not just racism and income, that is responsible for the wide disparities that exist. It is also culture and attitude. We all talk about people appropriating our culture, but the history of humanity is the history of cultural appropriation. When a people reject or are denied new innovations to human culture, that give others, who have them an advantage, they fall behind in human development. When it comes to the issue of us killing one another, many of us now amazingly, readily will exert, our equality with the rest of society, saying that us killing one another is "not a thing" or concern, because this is what happens when people live near each other. They ignore the main point that it is the disproportionate rate or level that is being addressed, and that we of all people can least afford to aid in our own destruction. They compare a systemic, centralized, and more predictable form of violence, committed by a more easily identifiable demographic, to random less predictable crimes of passion. f we had this same attitude across the board, about exerting our equality, in the area of education and other life affirming ones, we would be better off. Sports and entertainment, and fashion seems to be the only areas we expect an extra effort from our people. It is sad that we won't extend this extra effort into valuing our lives? In fact the present stance is a 360 degree shift, from the at last rhetorical, stance we use to take. No one said Black on Black crime, is not a thing, when hip-hop had the stop the violence movement or campaign in the 80's. Today we act like it, and other calls to stop killing on e another, never happened before. What does it say about us that we pretend not to see this contradiction? Degruy and others in her field, would do well to give some psychological insight on this. It is as important as any problem we are trying to resolve.
