Hi all! Glad to be doing another one of these ToneQuesting videos. And on a band like Slipknot none the less! Slipknot was such an inspiration and influential band to me as a guitar player, so I knew I had to do one of these videos and try to dial in some of their tones.

Damn, that tone was pretty on the mark! I love the first couple of Slipknot records, and I have a particular soft spot for Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. I know a lot of people don't dig their old vocalist, but I liked how they incorporated so much into their early sound.
Thanks! I really prefer Iowa... I think that's their heaviest record. I also really like all hope is gone, but I think they're all good albums in their own right.
@@TaylorDanley Iowa is definitely a great album, but then again, they haven't released a bad album yet, so a band with all good albums is definitely a great thing for a fan to have
I know lots of people don’t like Orange amps for metal, but like you, Slipknot was one of the first bands that brought me into the metal world so seeing a modeler shootout of the orange models would be siiiiiiiick. Keep up the good work man, love the channel.

I assume the "sub frequencies only" sound when listening to the reference song is to avoid getting striked by UA-cam ?
A lot of people assume he uses orange in the studio but he actually uses a modded bogner uberschall.

Thanks! 🙌 I have Mackie mk2 5", but I wouldn't recommend them. I hear awesome things about Adam, and even Kali if you're looking on the budget end.

@@TaylorDanley the one small step to perfect tone is the custom orange IR :) But with stock cab its good anyway
@@aras1985 I know, but I wanted to make sure people with the Ampero could download the preset and just get it going without having to pay or even download an IR. Trying to consider my audiences experience! 🤷♂️🙌
Yeah that's pretty damn close. I'm no sound engineer by any means but I think an EQ pedal in the effects loop would have given you that little extra to nail it..........

Mesa Mark with bass (on tonestack) turned down and classic V shape on the GEQ will get you close.

Mick used a rocktron piranha and a mesa 295 power amp. Jim used a mesa dc10. I just googled it out of curiosity lol. You definitely had the mesa part right! Idk what a dc10 is though

14:36 would be wise to also hear the guitar tone panned to one side, since it's how we mostly hear it in the mix in the end

Being around the des moines scene back in Slipknot's local band days, I remember Mick using the Rocktron Piranha, which ended up being my goto preamp for year after loving the Triaxis but unable justify affording it at the time. A friend of a friend that was offered the spot in the band before Jim also mentioned use of the Rocktron Chameleon.
Rocktron needs to enter this modeling tier, I think. If they are even still a thing.
Have you tried out using Hotone Ampero for band rehearsals or live use? Sorry if this has been covered already on one of your videos!
All good! Yes I used one live/at practice for a while before switching to an axe-fx.

I want to buy a multi effect. I just want to record guitar and bass with it. Which one would you recommend? Hx stomp, ampero or mooer? As I think that they all sound good, It's more about convenience and practicality. Do the ampero and mooer have bass amps at all?
Hi, to me the most versatile and easy to use is the Ampero thanks to its simple but effective editor and touchscreen, programmable foot switches and wide amp/fx collection. It has a small number of bass amps and effects as well as pretty good acoustic sims etc. The only weak point to me are the pitch shifting effects that are'nt great. But it feels much more realistic to play than the Mooer (which I had previously). If you don't play live the new Ampero One is for you: it is smaller (lost one foot switch), cheaper (about 290usd) but sounds exactly the same as the bigger one.

@@luca7x689 what Joël said! I dont think you can do DI and processed at the same time with the ampero, but I haven't really tried to dive into that. I know you can with the hx, because you can split the signal into stereo and process only one side.
@@luca7x689 actually there is an option in General > USB io menu to select which signal is sent to left/right USB audio channels. You can choose to send the input signal to left channel and effected signal (mono) to the right. I haven't tried but it is there and is documented in the manual.

The ampero one and ampero are almost exactly the same, ampero one just has less ins and outs, less dials, and one less footswitch

Oh, yeah, can't wait for you to start the QuarantineRiff :) Another question... How about dialing in tones on more units, and yeah, I mean the GE200 :D

Thanks man! Great work here. grabbed your lamb of god tone you had in the dropbox too. I haad to tweak them a bit as i use fishman fluence moderns in my metal guitar but they sound great

Really well done these tones! I'd love to hear your efforts at an Iowa tone, that seems to be the tone everyone craves but is really hard to nail, it's so incredibly brutal.
Hey Taylor, so are you going via interface or ampero usb? The loop signal is not changing effects from software. Please help.
Ampero>interface (apollo twin). Nit sure what you mean, your looper just records it doesnt change your effects
@@TaylorDanley When i record a riff using looper, the effects does not change when i change effect from the software, like how you are doing here in video.
Make sure you are recording the looper in pre mode and it is in the front position of your signal chain

Hi the GE200 has the option to send 1 out to the interface and 1 to the amp and the cab for the amp of this one can be switch off. Does the Ampero has the same option?
Yes, it's called no cab mode I believe.

Yes, the setting should be relatively the same. I will try to mix it up and do some GE stuff as well

Hi, i have a constant sound degration using high gain presets. Like your preset or the Vega Drop Djent. If muting strings or in a open chord, the sound degrades in the end. Is it normal ?
You mean the volume? Check the gate settings, its usually the case, set it around - 60db, and then go from that.
Also check input levels.
Is that guitar decent quality?
Yes, it's awesome. The pickups are the only weak point, which is why I replaced them.

Hi, i have a problem. When i turn the looped sound ON, i cant hear changes when i am swapping cabs or amps or doing any adjustments.
In the looper make sure you have it set to ‘Pre’ and not ‘Post’
