Wouldn't it be possible to solder a HD 7690M into the place of the original gpu instead? I know AMD never fixed the problem on the 6000 series, but does the same apply to the 7000 series rebrands? The die itself seems identical to the 6770M and 6750M, so I guess it might well be compatible. That said, there's not much point in replacing the gpu with another one that's going to die eventually, if the problem persisted even in the rebrands
Hey, thats indeed a great video. Thank you for your work here! I have a question though: Isn't it possible to enable the integrated gpu via terminal commands, too? With this one wouldn't need to solder. Best regards
Hi, is this possible for MBP 15 inch with no display? I removed the R8911 resistor the display is gone but the fans are still working. If I buy the lattice prorammer and do this, will it work? Thanks!
When you will apply this fix, you will lose the external display functionality over the mini DP connector, I don't know if the external display is going to work over the USB do HDMI adapter And if you will remove the R8911 without applying any software fix you screen will just be black

Install the necessary patch if running 10.13+, as documented on the webpage
Is there any particular recommendation for what solder temperature should be used?
props to u dos dude.. I just bought the programmer. I got a dozen mbp 2011 15s ready and waiting to be flashed. Great work just gotta wait for the programmer to come here looks like it will be few weeks. any word on brightness control? does it just auto to full 100%>? maybe theres a software control you can remap to the buttons on the keyboard..
2 question is the brightness button still functional and is the Thunderbolt Display out still functional
As of now brightness control is not functional with this gMux firmware, but I am working on that. External display will never be able to work, as that's wired directly to the dGPU, and is not controlled by the gMux IC at all.
@@dosdude1 thank you for your reply. im now running your mojave patch on my mbp with partial of Luis Puerto gpu fix. all in all im glad i still have a working machine. brightness button work like normal. thunderbolt data is also working. only thing that hving problem is my trackpad, the trackpad some time act strange no working or in reverse direction or just went crazy all over the place. so i remover the kext and replace it with older verison without multi gesture. and the track pad is working. wondering if you have any fix for the multi gesture fix ?
Love the video! I’m thinking about doing this and I need to know if I will be able to use my sound card after the procedure. It connects to a thunderbolt port via a FireWire400 to thunderbolt adapter. Will this not work afterwards? Could I use the USB ports if the Thunderbolt port is dead?
where can i get my hand on those thing to disable the AMD HD 65xx on my Macbook pro 17 inch 2011
This is incredible. Can't wait to try it!
My display is black I cant do the process it fail, do you have some workaround for me ?
Just finished the gMux reprogramming and successfully now have a fully working non AMD 17” MBP 2011 🎉
So i just did a "demux" with your tutorial, the lattice and the licence key, it worked! The OS doesn't see the amd gpu anymore, BUT! There are some issues that you didn't mention, 1. Screen brightness stoped working. 2. when i unplug my macbook from the wall it lags until i plug it back in and reset the smc or pram, basically, no battery and no screen brightness.
that's usually an issue with a non genuine battery, did you replace ur battery yet? sometimes a defective battery will cause this to happen. maybe get a new battery make sure its genuine apple. some of the chinese rip offs get really good at making ones that look just like original but if you look hard you will see its non genuine apple and always have problems.
Do you see after the procedure the mpb is slower?
i have a question, it's mean that one licensu key firmware purchased only work once? and need purchase again for another macbook pro right?
Hi. Which cable is the 3v3 one? I found all the other ones except this one on my Lattice programmer
VCC is the same as 3V3.
@@dosdude1 Thank you so much dude
one thing i am curious about, will linux also behave in the same way, is it possible to do hiberantion ???
Hey. I seen your macintosh SE video with connecting it to the internet. I was hoping you could help me with getting the drivers for the browser on the computer. I have the same one as yours. I find it nearly impossible to write to 800k disks. Please respond
@dosdude1 As this video seems to be a bit older than some of the others I've seen, I'd like to ask you if this is the latest fix for an early-2011 MBP 17 with a bad GPU? If it isn't, I'd appreciate it very much if you would tell me where to go to get the latest information to affect this modification/repair. I'd also like to know what kind of information is necessary to ensure that the proper fix is applied to the appropriate hardware. In other words, how can I make sure that we have the proper hardware version for the latest fix? Our Model Identification is as follows: MacBook Pro 8,3 Thank you very much for your kind assistance.
Dear Collin, is there any chance of performing this operation using a virtual machine, such as Parallels or VMWare, instead of a PC running Windows?
I have a few questions for you non video related. I have a 2009 MacBook Pro. What is the recommended OS X version. Also I tried Linux and I’m getting a black screen after grub on all distros l. I read it could be defaulting to the external display port?
Hey, great work! Just got the problem on my machine and I was wondering if I could convince a repair shop to do this... Or maybe should I wait for the pogo connector and do it but myself? When will it be out? Thanks for the trick!
How can I do thisbrepair method when my MBP pro doesn't boot in the first place. It's just black screen. Please help.
Hey, thats indeed a great video. Thank you for your work here! I have a question though: Isn't it possible to enable the integrated gpu via terminal commands, too? With this one wouldn't need to solder. Best regards
does that mean we don't need heatsink any more on the GPU, and the GPU doesn't consume the battery?
Hi, very nice job, it us possible then to upgrade macOs with a Patch like installing Catalina ir Bigsur or Monterey ? Cheers.
Works in 17"2011?
Not really a repair. It's a bypass or workaround. But you've done a great job of returning an MBP to good functionality. Thanks for the video. 🙂👍
Is there anyway to do this without a JTAG programmer and instead use a rpi or arduino somehow??
Hi, is this possible for MBP 15 inch with no display? I removed the R8911 resistor the display is gone but the fans are still working. If I buy the lattice prorammer and do this, will it work? Thanks!
When you will apply this fix, you will lose the external display functionality over the mini DP connector, I don't know if the external display is going to work over the USB do HDMI adapter
And if you will remove the R8911 without applying any software fix you screen will just be black
Yeah gorgeous idea, perhaps you need a bootable machine in order to overwrite the gmux firmware or this solution can be applied also for the unbootable machines? Can you provide us with a detailed description of the firmware mods you just developed ?
is this method exclusive to the lattive jtag? I'm in Mexico and it will be tough to find it, ebay seller doesn't send it.
Yes, unfortunately the only thing you can use is the Lattice programmer.
Any word on the solderless option?? thanks dosdude
Subscribed because of the Rossman feature - excellent work!
Does this solve the brightness and sleep issues in High Sierra and Mojave?
It solves the sleep issue, but backlight control will not work.
dosdude1 Thanks!
Hi Do you have a similar fix for nvidia GT650m chip?
