I have a lews laser xl (more of a catfish reel) on a 9ft heavy salmon rod (rated 10-25lb mono) and it works pretty well for calicos, both live bait and lures. Weird setup but I like it
Swim baits are fun and easy for calico but last year I used a 60g colt sniper during summer and it caught me bass, tuna, dorado and they last forever, probably my favorite all around lure
10 foot crankbait rod . . . that's awesome. Curious what # braid to fluro Erik uses on the weedless set-up, and if he ever throws the smaller weedless.
Seeker does still make the Inshore Pro rods. They’re really hard to find. All the tuna stuff is definitely where the demand is, but they do still make the ISP series and they’re fantastic. Got a few for myself recently when I could find them
@@MikeSmith-ym9eq which model? I use the 708 for calicos mostly, but also use the 706. They’re all fantastic for calicos and swimbaits for sure. I also caught a 15 pound yellow on my 708 with a tranx 300 last week at San Clemente island. You’ll love that rod

It's a great versatile lure.

Thanks for watching! We'll let him answer that, but with the amount of setups he has, I'm sure he's got one for fishing smaller weedless baits.
You can throw the smaller weedless baits on the 710H combo or you can add a 710M with a 200 sized reel full of 30-pound braid.
On a sport fishing boat which rod and reel. They usually pull right up to the kelp and swing into the kelp.

Product can be hard to come by these days! Gotta scoop it up whenever you have the opportunity!
@@bdoutdoorsdotcom-m4p sometimes bugging your local tackle shop until it arrives helps too 😂
I recently bought an older Cory Sanden Inshore Pro. Good calico/swimbait rod?

awsome tips on calico bass, never really fish for calico with any of these style , another good excuse to stop at the tackle shop 😁
Thanks! You can never have enough tackle!

I too use to fish without gloves, maybe some of that tape on thumb to lip em. I now use gloves. Good advice Erik.
Thanks for watching!
Great info thanks
Erik what’s your favorite bait for the wall at night?
How much fluro top shot do you recommend? I will be fishing mainly from rocks and shoreline saltwater
does your braid snap before your leader when stuck? I heard you mention you run 30lb braid with a 40lb leader. just curious thanks
Great video what size waxwing was that
size 118
Thanks for tuning in!
watching this after taking a treble hook to my thumb from a bass
Any recommendations on where to get a crank sit rod built in the Los Alamitos area? TY like to get a crank bait rod built for Alamitos bay/Wall
I would check out Performance Tackle in Los Alamitos
Awesome thank you in there weekly.
Where can I find these rods ?
Best advice is the gloves. Prob still won’t use them. 🙄
Give them a shot! You'll be thanking yourself at the end of the day.
