      There's a certain comfort in living in a world that's less complex and slightly more predictable than ours. Although there were a lot of social issues that were being ignored at the time, I feel that at least there was a stronger sense of community and camaraderie to make up for it (not that I'm denying the tremendous suffering experienced by those who were arbitrarily deemed outcasts). I don't know, I just wish we could return to a less cynical world where social trust and strong relationships are seen as common aspects of everyday life rather than the anomalies that they are today, without the added close mindedness and harmful group think of the past. Is that too much to ask?

    Industrial design was really elegant and slick in the 40'ies and early 50'ies. This was right as it was about to be turned into driving baroque monsters with tail-fins and protruding chrome torpedo's. Not like that did not have a charm of its own. this was just really elegant. I also got to love the round nosed locomotives.

      @@Urbex-Adventures I prefer everything in automotive history to the plastic shit we have today. 90'ies cars were ugly then around 2000 it looked like they were getting better with the re appearance of chrome trim, but it took a steep dive to unseen lows. now it is basically the 90'ies hand soaps with "aggressive" shapes plastered all over them.
      One good thing about the 90'ies You could still get a few of the old cars new back then, like the Mini, Land rover defender, for the first year of the decade they still made The Citroen 2CV, also Peugeot 205 untill 97, Renault R4 and a few other.
      What do we have left of cool cars still in production today? UAZ and Morgan? Maybe Lada Niva.

    It's weird seeing footage like this. As someone who wasn't around for the 50's, seeing the architecture, the cars, the fashion, knowing at one time that it was normal and high tech is just mind boggling to me. Because in my mind, as a 21 year old, the 50's is this surreal age. Surreal in a way that I can only best describe as feeling like an older demonstration of futurism. The entire decade felt like a movie from the 1940's predicting what things would be like in another 100 years, if that makes sense. Which I guess is my way of saying that somehow the 1950's feels futuristic and retro at the same time, almost as though it's an alternate timeline to modern day. In many ways, we're worse off, and in many ways, they're worse off. I guess it's up to individual interpretation to decide which is better.
    Edit: The 1980's has a very similar feel, as well. But the 80's are also three whole decades closer to modern day than the 50's are, and thus forth feel a lot more grounded in my personal interpretation of reality. It's a much more (for lack, and want, of a better term) soft-core rendition of the feeling that I get from the 1950's, that's exasperated in media such as 80's music, TV and movies. It almost makes me wonder if 9/11 never happened, if we would actually be living in a world more similar to that of the portrayal of the year 2015 in Back to the Future. I mean, probably not, but it still makes you wonder just how far behind we are because of 9/11... it certainly makes me wonder whether or not we're still being held back as a society in the shadow and wake of 9/11.

      Im a German, so i have a question, why u think 9/11 was so important in the development of the western society?
      I mean like for the society the left movement of student in 1968 had a great impact, since then this Generation got also in charge in the instutions... And now we have got the Situation, where conservativ Values are hated. Those values, that made the western civilazion great are now getting rejected.

      @@derkritiker9897 A lot of American liberties were lost in the invisible cast shadows of the Twin Towers. Societal changes to our very way of being. It sparked up another war that lead into the fundamentally broken America that we know today. America had been on a downward trend since Reagan left office, or even arguably during Nixon's presidency - though I'd be remiss to say that 9/11 didn't have a more substantial impact on the blatant downward trend since it gave people and politicians a reason to change the way we lived our lives.
      (Just to clarify - no, I don't think Bush had anything to do with 9/11. If nothing else, I don't think Bush was smart enough to devise a plan such as that NOR do I know what he would have served to have gained from doing so either)

My question to those who routinely bring up the racism aspect: are you guys blind to everything else that was occuring in this place at this time?
    I mean maybe these people would like to go back there because they werent being told they are racists by minorities just because they were born white.
    Maybe they want to go back to have the ability to have a calm and peacefull life in one career field or possibly even one company, without any of the modern jumping between new jobs every 3 years.
    Maybe these people simply like classic cars and think they look cool. Seriosly take a minute break, calm down after this post, and awnser the question. What other reason could people have to like the 50's other than the racism.
    ( examples) cars. Booming economy. Having forsight to invest in nessesary stock....

Not only did we finally achieve equality for the races with the civil rights amendment, but we went to the moon, experienced massive economic growth, and pioneered every field of technology. • @stundenullkrantz3117
      @stundenullkrantz3117 4 роки тому +4

      Yes, pollution existed then, as it does today. But put it in context--- the 1950 US population was about 150 million, vs about 310 million today. More people = more pollution, more cars, more planes, more freeways, more chemicals and toxins, congestion, and urban sprawl. No comparison, really.

    • @stundenullkrantz3117
      @stundenullkrantz3117 4 роки тому +4

      @@jacobs2099 On balance, the environment was not so toxic back in the 50s, simply because of the numbers-- in 1960 American drove 718,762 _million_ miles (all types of vehicles), yet in 2018 they drove 3,240,327 _million_ miles.
      Since 1950, at least 70,000 new chemical compounds have been invented and dispersed into our environment. Few have been tested for safety. Add to that the proliferation everywhere of radio frequency microwave radiation (cell phones, cell towers, wi-fi) exposure, which was not common back in 1950s.
      Today's toxic soup in environment is a major reason for ever increasing sickness in population today.
