Thank you so much, Cory and Tara. I'm going to recommend your interview to someone who is just beginning to consider licensing. It's a great introduction to the subject.
The art of licensing requires knowledge of business and legal basics. I've been VERY successful - but I didn't get back a mountain of foreign tax credit until I retained a pro in my own field. Two of my publishers have been acquired by other publishers, and four great selling books are out of print. The infringements of my wall decor could probably make the Guiness book of World Records. It's great someone like Tara is available. And so are some new vehicles like crowdfunding to market your work.
How can I contact Tara for more details or information? To avoid being sued, what other information do you need to put on the contract, what kind of artwork manufacturer is looking for, so forth and so forth.
PS Tara, you're fun! I laughed about the unwelcome input from the non-artists (the woman who wanted a whole new color scheme) because it's the same in the entertainment industry. All the non-artists want to do your job. (oy.)
PLEASE HELP? I am currently a high school student who is trying to find a way to raise money. I enjoy creating art and I figured why not make a little cash on it. What I am concerned with is will I be able to contact a manufacturer who would be interested in my art despite my young age? And who could I contact about making a deal?
So infuriating that no one ever talked about this in the 10 years i was trying to succeed with art. Everything has always been a big secret no matter how many thousands of dollars of art college debt you accumulate
