Man, Konami's games for the Genesis look GREAT. Between this and Castlevania Bloodlines, there's so much unique visual tech. It almost looks like an SNES game.
@@yurifaggu The Genesis and SNES were made with different ideas in mind. The SEGA Genesis focused more on being able to run very quickly to compliment action games, meaning that less could be shown on screen at once to keep it running smoothly. The SNES ran at about half the speed, but this was mostly because of the fact that it had many fancy visual effects (look up mode 7 and you'll see what I mean) and more objects could be on screen at once.
@@JummmpyI don’t know if I’m practice the snes could actually have more things on the screen at once. The big difference really just seems to be the color palette issue
Probotector is WAY too expensive compared to Contra: Hard Corps... Same game but reskinned and slower, why is it like 300€ and contra hard corps is 70€
I'm surprised they didn't mention the secret ending of the game that you can get to right at the beginning of the game. Edit: nevermind, they do a separate secret ending run after the first one.
I think I only ever beat the jungle autoscroller boss twice out of hundreds of attempts as a kid. Of course, I had the American version and didn't have all that extra health to work with.
I started playing this game around 6 months ago, after about 2 weeks of intensive playing I managed to complete all endings. It's mostly pattern recognition like the souls games, with a little RNG thrown in. It was so satisfying to get those first clears and is still just as satisfying to make them more efficient, I'm still yet to manage a no hit run but I'm not far off. This game was years ahead of its time and still holds up today. I would urge you to keep plugging at that first level as it's such a great game to master.
The only two things I didn't get was they never quite explained why exactly they picked Sheena or what that "Shot-I" was for. I knew from watching and listening that each of the characters had their own weapons in the A-D slots, and they have their own attack strength, and they seemed to favor using Sheena's laser weapon, but they never made it 100% clear why. As for the Shot thing, I'd see it sometimes change from Shot-I to Shot-II and then back. What does that exactly mean and how does it function, because they never said anything about it.
Shot 1 is free shot, ie move and shoot. Shot 2 is fixed, ie when you are firing you are unable to walk but can fire in 8 directions. Knowing which to use and when is very important
There’s a game I played only once when I was about 7, and I could never remember what it was called, just vague visuals, I THINK this is it… I thought it was on SNES cuz we didn’t have a sega but maybe I was borrowing my cousins sega that day.
@@dr.velious5411the dialogue in the European version is lame compared to the American and I assume JP version. The 50fps also makes it feel like you're moving through treacle.

Hard Corps is a criminally underrated Contra.
Absolutely. It's my favorite

What do you mean by "almost looks like", SNES and MD are same gen consoles.

Amazing graphics on this game. Really creative stuff for the time.
One of the best looking games ever made.
Not a fan of the salmon-coloured wall-climber boss, otherwise hell yeah
It's visually amazing.
"Blast Processing" at it's best in this game.
I remember how MINDBLOWN I was when realised that the game is not linear! For 94 Contra that was something inexplicably cool :)
Me and my brother argue over spread or shotgun so I can show him this and say see the pros say spread
I remember this being released in Australia as Probotector.
+ Europe (released).
Probotector is WAY too expensive compared to Contra: Hard Corps... Same game but reskinned and slower, why is it like 300€ and contra hard corps is 70€
Man the 90's were not kind to epileptic people...
Bloody love this game. Only thing stopping it being my fave Contra is the weird SHOT I/SHOT II thing.
honestly wish this game was on the SNES rather than Alien Wars. those three hit points are so generous lmao
This is for the Japanese version only. In American version you have no health bar and limited continues
This game reminds me of gunstar heros. The music the explosions the boss fights almost all of it.
I agree, certain parts of this game do very much seem inspired by Gunstar Heroes. The focus on boss fights also reminds me of Alien Soldier.
@@co81385 lol,
Gunstar Heroes, 1993
Contra Hard Corps, 1994
Alien Soldier, 1995
YES, finally Contra: Hard Corps!
I'm surprised they didn't mention the secret ending of the game that you can get to right at the beginning of the game.

"CONTRA: Hard Corps"? I have a cartridge. Excellent Sega Genesis game.
I thought the secret ending was the speedrunners preference because it's the quickest
Holy shit this is amazing, this game was so hard, music was so damn good too
I think I only ever beat the jungle autoscroller boss twice out of hundreds of attempts as a kid. Of course, I had the American version and didn't have all that extra health to work with.
You could just take Fang and rofl stomp him tho.
contra was the only game to make me ragequit as a child
They make the game look so easy. Yet I’m over here never having beat the first level
The first level is brutal!!
they play an easier version than the american one.
It also helps that the Japanese version gives you 3 Hit Points, the american version doesn't so is almost impossible.

Just the best Contra
16:24 me with that music ->🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺

Sheena's laser is three times powerful than any of her weapons, deals more damage
Best music!
Music is damn good!
I want to like this game and bloodline but it's hard af, i beat the ninja gaiden games and dark souls trilogy
I just beat this game and had no idea you could slide
There’s a game I played only once when I was about 7, and I could never remember what it was called, just vague visuals, I THINK this is it… I thought it was on SNES cuz we didn’t have a sega but maybe I was borrowing my cousins sega that day.
"That's another good Contra game" lol
...hitpoints??? In Contra? Blasphemy
I had it it was called probotectors
It was renamed in Europe, iirc they also changed everyone into robots.
@@dr.velious5411the dialogue in the European version is lame compared to the American and I assume JP version. The 50fps also makes it feel like you're moving through treacle.
Salmon = Belmont 👀
Wtf are those secret bosses lol
Why not US version?
He explains the text scrolls faster and you get the 3 hit points so can tank some hits for a faster run.
