I actually worked with Bobby and Danis Hackney in Burlington Vermont back in the early 80’s...they formed another band called Lambs Breath...man, we used to get so stoned!! Miss them
I remember smoking some lambs breathe. Wheelchair weed, bcuz you needed one after you burned some. You literally became glued to the couch...even on Friday night.
THESE GUYS ARE MY COUSINS!!! BOBBY HACKNEY AND DANNIS HACKNEY!! BOBBIE DUNCAN IS LIKE FAMILY TOO!! THIS BAND IS SUPER SICK!! A BAND CALLED DEATH!! WE LOVE YOU. RIP. COUSIN DAVID HACKNEY!!!IM STILL ROCKIN AND ROLLING ON MY BACK PATIO ! LOOKING FORWARD FOR THEM TO DO A TOUR IN WASHINGTON STATE!!! ROCK ON DEATH!!!!
They may not have made it big back when, but there is little doubt that these guys had on influence on those who heard them. And they have certainly gotten a lot of recognition more recently.
Yep. Drummer and bass player are brothers. Their other brother was the original guitar player, but he was lost to cancer. Check out the documentary on these dudes. It's pretty amazing.
DAMN! Just listened to their full album, where this is the last song on the record--don't know the name of the album--and it's f'n awesome! WOW! I was joking about the "Death" name...since there is also a death metal band by that name. This is great! And they're from here, Detroit?!? I love discovering new old bands! Thank you very much for this upload, which made me search around for their music. ♥
As Corwick4 said, that is their brother David who passed away. He was the main driving force of the band. A visionary, hauntingly so. The main reason for their success and for their resurrection. Watch the documentary my friend.
I would love to see them in concert! In the video there's only one dude in the crowd who's into it, that's disappointing. I hope now they get the recognition for their contribution to progressive, punk rock when their movie comes out. They were pioneers for their time.
Thanks! I'm actually 46 yrs old; first concert was Pat Benatar Get Nervous Tour 1983. My YT channel is a PB Fan Channel; the other one was "shut down" by YT because of copyright footage; stuff not even available for purchase so they're losing cents for me showing it. I weep for the youth for the shitty music they're stuck with.
1, 2, 3, now The number one biggest game It's when they gain the most fame It's like a race to the top Because they wanna be boss They don't care who they step on As long as they get along Politicians in my eyes They could care less about you They could care less about me As long as they are to end The place that they want to be They're always wearing false smiles I guess it goes with the style Always tryin' to be slick when they tell us the lies They're responsible for sending young men to die We have waited so long for someone to come along And correct our country's law But the wait's been too long It's really sickening to see The way they lie on TV The truth is that he can be A better man than you see But when decision time comes That's when they have all the fun They're always tryin to convince Just like we don't have the sense They look just like it's a quiz But they do real stupid things They'll tell you to trust in them Because you're their biggest friend Reaching out, shaking hands Making friends and other plans Some will rise, some will fall Some won't even answer calls Look a here, see them fight See the twinkle in their eye Politicians tell me why Can't you hear the people cry Yeah
They were given a break. Clive Davis offered to sign them if they would change their name from Death and they refused. Back in the 1970's Clive Davis was the guy that God would have gone to if He wanted a record contract, so it was about as big a break as any band could get. (Check out the documentary "A Band Called Death" which you can find on UA-cam now; it's really good.)
@MoabBMX I agree, good to see some good ole rock, the crowd is so dead, and like zerbeiler stated US has the worst crowds...bands like these should be appreciative: "originality and quality music" they don't make music like this anymore.
What happened to the music industry. African American music was some of the best back in the day. Now the culture has become so degraded. Especially Black music indusry. Todays thirsty ass corparations dominate our culture with bad music aimed specifically to shape our opinions and promote ego centric indulgences, perverting our youth and incouraging ignorance. The main stream music doesnt require any talent. Thank You Death for bringing flavour to this distasteful scenario of mindless self indulgence and subliminal conditioning. Love this sonb to pieces!!!!!
I agree about mainstream, except that almost all of these people actually are very 'talented' (whatever that means, I'd rather call it skilled), that's the sad thing about it.
So sad their brother David wasn't there to add his magic on guitar having passed in '00 but still a great sound . Too bad the crowd is so limp- brained not to appreciate the solid sound.
I wish I grew up in the same part of Detroit as they did I could have used some rock and roll brothers back in the 1970's all the auther black people mistreated me for being into rock back then
@GrimJesta Can I tell you something? Circle pits are not meant for music like this. This the kind of stuff you just kind of groove too. You don't need to break out a circle pit for every fucking band you see. Fuck.
My favorite track and Bobbie does this justice, but of course he can't replace David. If you listen to the original, David appears to use distortions, toggled channels and he just added his own unique alien type flare to the music using the tone knobs which is unmatched. David was a scientist with the guitar. Bobbie is the specialist, both great and unique.
Rockabilly in the 50's, Surf in the early 60's, garage bands in the mid 60's, the early Kinks albums, the Stooges and MC5... all of these sounds influenced the formation of punk. You also can't deny the influence of Jazz on well, everything either.
Got to agree - that is a very lame crowd. An Athens crowd would tear the place apart. Awesome band - I tried to get hold of their stuff for years and was delighted when they finally released it :)

This band needs to tour the United Kingdom, gutted that it's taken me over 35 years to 'discover this band completely by accident .
Hi Xero I would love to come visit you too!! I hope you have a great new year!!
i would love to see this band
it is criminal that bands with half the chops theses guys got made it in peoples eyes
Death #1, The Original Punk Band !!!!! Rip it up dudes !!!!!!! ☝🎶👍😄✌❤
I shed a tear for how beautiful this is. I always wanted to hear a band like that this. And they brothers lol
What a shame. Just imagine what they could have produced if they were given a break!!
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
I was there in the beginning...They were bad ass way back in the 70s
It's actually nice to see that people [crowd] still don't fuckin` get ti
They may not have made it big back when, but there is little doubt that these guys had on influence on those who heard them. And they have certainly gotten a lot of recognition more recently.
how has there been this many views and no comments on how amazing this band is
Just like the first time I heard this song....the vocals start and I get goosebumps.
listen to that bass, what a legend!!
Is the drummer from the original incarnation of the band? He's perfectly suited for this great Detroit band.
Yeah that's the original drummer.
Thanks for confirming that Ed!
That old school head shake.
Yes bass and drummer are original
Yep. Drummer and bass player are brothers. Their other brother was the original guitar player, but he was lost to cancer. Check out the documentary on these dudes. It's pretty amazing.
A powerful band performing at a morgue once known as NYC.
Ha ha!! I hear you. The audience have the passion of a dead fish! But at least they clap! Awesome band!

One of best chorus lines, reminds me of something really good from the 50s or 60s
love the pure DNA of it

Pentatonic scale all the way...
Simple, yet beautiful...
found em by accident but i think one of the most IMPORTANT bands of the 20th century. no genre no label but a fuck load of attitude
These guys KILL it!
This was/is such a great band. Truly a lost treasure.
I cannot wait to see this band live.
Incomparable rock gods
That shit is killin me. They are really sitting down
🤘💀🤘
As much as we all wish they were given a chance in the 70s, I think Death followed the path that was divined from the beginning.
great band!
That's the coolest drummer in the world. Jaja! :-D

Ah, thanks. Really love this band.
probably the coolest band ever
I like they had his picture on stage though
superb this. do have one of their cd's and oh what a revelation! excellent!
That is their brother David, who was originally in the band. He passed away in 2000.
this is amazing
Show is in 2010. David died in 2000…That is Bobbie Duncan…
1, 2, 3, now
The number one biggest game
It's when they gain the most fame
It's like a race to the top
Because they wanna be boss
They don't care who they step on
As long as they get along
Politicians in my eyes
They could care less about you
They could care less about me
As long as they are to end
The place that they want to be
They're always wearing false smiles
I guess it goes with the style
Always tryin' to be slick when they tell us the lies
They're responsible for sending young men to die
We have waited so long for someone to come along
And correct our country's law
But the wait's been too long
It's really sickening to see
The way they lie on TV
The truth is that he can be
A better man than you see
But when decision time comes
That's when they have all the fun
They're always tryin to convince
Just like we don't have the sense
They look just like it's a quiz
But they do real stupid things
They'll tell you to trust in them
Because you're their biggest friend
Reaching out, shaking hands
Making friends and other plans
Some will rise, some will fall
Some won't even answer calls
Look a here, see them fight
See the twinkle in their eye
Politicians tell me why
Can't you hear the people cry
Yeah
Respect
* cryyyyyyyyyyyyyyiaaaiyyyyyyyyyieeeewuaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

@GrimJesta uh this was in New York, dude. Lincoln Center. Crowd was lame but it was an awesome set. 'Specially for free.
YOU CAN'T HAVE DEATH WITHOUT CHUCK!
Oh wait...
(This Death was totally ahead of its time, btw)
Love both this comment is great. Even 6 years later
Both bands were ahead of their times imo. Both great in their own respect.
When i think we see all...
Is Mick Collins dancing behind the stage?
I've seen in a few of their other live clips, there's that picture of the guy in the white. Anyone know who that is?

I gotta learn the bass line to this
@smyrnaskaterboarding yeah bad brains ripped these guys off so hard.
Too good too bad I only discovered them a week ago fucking awesome
ORIGINAL PUNK
Oh, thanks for the correction. Okay, FUNHOUSE, and the first album...

WOW. Death metal sure has changed a lot since DEATH revolutionized that kind of music. (joking joking...diff band, DUH!)

Nah, dude. Death was formed in 1971.
Iggy pop and the stooges were punk before punk, death was right after though..
Really it's the Beatles. Listen to Helter Skelter and tell me that's not origin of punk rock.
jerry mott circa 1958, sounds pretty punk to me

@@MrGovnovaljHave you never heard of concert bootleg recordings from the 70s? This isn't exactly a new thing.
Death was influenced by the Stooges. Garage rock is the proper term for punk, anyways.
Love this band but not punk before punk at all. Just making sure youve heard of the Stooges.. Raw Power even predated Death.
Sleepy-ass crowd. Wake UP! Probably too busy analyzing. On another note ummm....where the f was I? I work right down the street.
