Many believers who don’t want to tithe say that there are no scriptures in the New Testament that tell us we (must) tithe. And I say there weren’t any scriptures for Abram and Jacob either. Why would there be scriptures to repeat for us to do something that God has ALREADY said can be done of one”s FREE WILL?
In Matthew 23:23 and Luke 11:42 Jesus referred to tithing as something that should not be neglected…
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices-mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law-justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.”
So if you have been wondering what Jesus said about tithing or if “tithe” is in the New Testament, you have it right there in Luke 11:42.
The first person to make a TITHE, which means a tenth (ten percent) of one’s INCREASE, was Abram (Genesis 14:20) … Notice please: Abram’s TITHE was not under the LAW which came more than six hundred years later. It wasn’t requested by anybody. It wasn’t suggested by anybody. It wasn’t coerced by anybody. It was purely a VOLUNTARY act of gratitude to HONOR “the Most High God, Possessor of heaven and earth.” Abram simply appreciated God’s FAVOR and gave up something of value in order to HONOR the One who had helped him get the victory.
Bro if you read that carefully you can understand that Jesus is scolding them. If u give tithe but you are not following law, justice, mercy and faithfulness you are Hypocrites.
Later in Paul's letter it cleared said there should not be any compulsion we need to be a cheerful giver. 2 Corh 9. We can give even more than 10 percent.
The problem is here some churches are pressuring the members to give 10 percent and only to church.. I give me 10 percent to a poor person also one month to church, one month to mission another month to some body in need.

Anna, New translations are more accurate. i think its good to suggest more accurate version. i guess you know there are flaws in tamil and english bible which could even change the meaning of it {eg: Ps: 121: 1}. bible has no flaws but translations are.

anna your 1 cor 16:2 definition is not accurate. you just stopped it in the middle. as we read it fully, we can clearly see that, Paul was coming to collect the money for the Christ followers and he doesnt want it to be collected at the time he comes. so he says to collect it ahead of the time and keep it ready.
Brother, I have a doubt about applying oil and praying.
James 5:14&15 says " call elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven"
Why should we not apply oil for praying?
