      Survivalist2008 This is one of my favorite parks, especially in North Carolina...there are very few little corners that I have not yet explored, it's really awesome to have a REAL mountain park so close to the piedmont region. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

      Caveman Outdoors Thanks! The view from the top is much better on a clear day but it was still impressive even with all the clouds and storms around. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Very beautiful hike, Smell N Roses. Loved balanced rock, it reminded me of a rock which is on Old Rag Mountain. I thought I would tell you that I love listening to your commentary along with your videos! Keep up the great work.

    High humidity in North Carolina? NEVER! Always good to bang out the hardest part first (if you can). Looks like the rhododendron bloom was a few weeks ago.

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  10 років тому

      FoorYourSuccess Yeah, the last few weeks I have been to various points...in the high country of southwest Virginia they were just blooming about a week ago, heading down south though they are pretty much done! It was weird this season, you could find one tree with beautiful flowers on it and right next to it would be another one that didn't bloom yet. Thanks for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it!

    didn't know "balanced rock" had a name. i took a pic of it and it looks like a dragon's head. glad it didn't go unnoticed. great channel. you should do a top ten of all the nc trails.
    i do landscape painting and have some in blowing rock. hope to do more but my fulltime job steals all my time, need to switch the two!

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  10 років тому

      Jon Focker Now they have a sign there indicating the name. I do not know how long the sign has been there, it's been there ever since I started visiting this park, and you cannot miss it as its right along the side of the spur trail leading up to the tower. Balanced rock does look kind of like a dragon though, cool! I have not gotten down into North Carolina as much as I would like...if you scroll through my video list you will see mostly Virginia locations, as that is where I am based. I do have a playlist called "North Carolina Fun" where I put all my NC videos in one list so check it out. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Can I jump on this trail from behind the Ampitheater which is within stones throw of the campground ?

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  7 років тому

      Hi there. Yes you can. The trail officially begins near the lake but it does pass right through the campground. The view from the tower at the top is awesome and well worth the hike up. Thanks so much for watching!

    Is this the mountain with the 2 miles of steep stairs? Because that is part of the 50 mile race in October too lol

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  5 років тому

      Thanks for checking out my old videos, my friend. Depending on which direction you are going, Moore's Knob is either a long steady climb, or a short steep one. The steep side is only about 3/4 of mile and it has some stairs but nothing terrible. You should be able to handle this mountain easily. The views from the top are outstanding...I know its a race but dang take a second to enjoy that view! On a clear day you can see the downtown buildings of both Greensboro and Winston-Salem and you can easily see well into Virginia towards the north. Also great views of Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain. So somewhere there is a mountain with 2 miles of steep stairs...I'll have to find out where that is, and make sure I never go there LOL!

      @PeakbaggersForCancer1 5 років тому +1

      @@SmellNRoses Yea, I know that section is "somewhere" in Hanging Rock. Because at that point we will have run for 40+ miles and then you have to deal with a long descent over seemingly hundreds of stairs on tired legs haha

    @ 3:35, you off trail?? ha ha. You found the best overlook @ the Channels by doing that. The view of Hanging Rock is awesome...this place has been on my list. If you want to see a crazy "balancing rock" vid, check out my vid of Balancing Rock at Natural Bridge State Park, Powell County, Kentucky.
    Very nice views from the top of Moore's wall! Loved it. Btw I would totally walk up that Lookout tower-no problems.

      Me off trail? yeah trails are merely a "suggested route" but when I want to get somewhere I get there trail or not. Haha. Yeah you would totally enjoy Hanging Rock park, its awesome! I will check out your video that you mentioned...oh yeah the Moore's Knob tower is not very scary at all, its pretty tiny, and kind of unneccessary, I got just as good of view from the rocks in front of the tower, but you do have to be on the tower to see down to the lake and visitor center since there are trees on that side. Thanks for watching man!

      hanging rock was real cool. better if you have a crazy friend who has been there. we made our own trail following a stream to some waterfall. it weird quite the journey, felt like i was 12 again.
      stone mountain has a good "off" trail before the big waterfall that goes to weird "stonehenge" type formations. hard to explain but a must see. before you follow the water down the hill, follow upstream and you will discover the "rooms".

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  10 років тому

      Jon Focker Hanging Rock has a lot of very cool stuff that is not on any map and not off any trail. Its a great place to bushwhack and explore and a lot of cool things to see if you know where to look. I have been there many many times and I still feel like I am only scratching the surface of what there is to see. I did not realize that Stone Mountain had those "rooms" you are talking about. I have only been there a couple of times and always pretty much stuck to the trail. I am planning to get back down there again later this year, I'll have to check that out. Thanks for watching and commenting on my video! I appreciate it!

    I forgot which mountain had the freeway which one was it.

      @SmellNRoses  10 років тому

      TheSilentSnake36 Hi there...thanks for watching...I'm not sure what you mean by "which mountain had the freeway?" Please explain...thanks!

    • @thesilentsnake3633
      @thesilentsnake3633 10 років тому +1

      Last time i went to NC, i remember a road going up a mountain. I'm not sure because it was years ago, maybe i imagined it.

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  10 років тому

      TheSilentSnake36 I'm quite sure you did not imagine it. All of western North Carolina is very mountainous. Indeed the highest point east of the Mississippi River is found at Mount Mitchell in western NC. However, I'm not sure which freeway you may be referring to. I'm based out of southern Virginia but I travel frequently in NC...when coming from the Blue Ridge highlands of southwest VA on I-77 southbound into North Carolina there is a very steep grade at Fancy Gap, but when entering NC you would be going downhill, not up. Perhaps you were coming from east Tennessee? I am less familiar with that part of the state. Anyway, thanks for watching my video and commenting, I really appreciate it and I hope you'll check out some of my other hiking videos....
