Excellent size and standard features. Test drove it twice and decided the ride was far too sporty, and a compromise not worth the modest engine output. Great car otherwise.
I love it, makes me smile when I hear the engine nose when I accelerate. I love it when I am in pole position at the traffic lights and I plant it on the green and leave everyone else behind. The media unit even prompted me to search for nearby petrol stations when I was low on fuel. I dislike no wireless android auto and will probably buy 3rd party device for that. The ride is quite bumpy on bad roads but I can live with that because when I’m driving like I stole it feels right and those seats hug you when you plant it.
Great review!, yes its a little stiff going to the supermarket, But geez what a fun car packed full of features. The Kia package in the GT is so good I couldn't compare it to anything else in Australia in its class so I purchased one, 7 year warranty, + the safety features are built right in with no need to purchase them separately as part of some stupid add on package etc. Considering I have saved 10k+ over purchasing the I30n which I looked at aswell, (and which is missing some of the same features as the Cerato without the add on security package btw), the Cerato GT its an amazing car for the money. Highly recommend people go test drive.
Hey man, i just bought this one in white colour sedan and it is worth it by all mean!! Thank you for your reviews, one of the best ( if not the best ) Aussie car youtuber!
Excellent review as always. I had a 2019 GT before upgrading to the Stinger GT. The Cerato GT was a fantastic car and I loved it. In its class, there really isn't much that can compete with it when everything is considered such as equipment, price, performance, warranty etc.
I had a 2020 Cerato GT and can honestly say it was stupidly fun to drive. SO many friends stole the keys due to its playfulness when pushed. Unfortunately though, I sold it after just 18 months and 12,000km as there were SO MANY issues. Engine issues, seat issues, transmission issues, rattles, squeaks, glitches - too many to name. Definitely dipped into the warranty countless times, but ended up selling it after only a short period of time due to the headaches. This car is amazingly fun to drive, well-equipped, has a lot of space inside, and very affordable given the kit on offer - the trade-offs (in my case) were the high seating position, crashy ride around town, clumsy dual-clutch, the unreliability, and the fact that the interior feels low-rent when compared to a Mazda 3 Astina (which I ended up trading up to, and only costs $2,000 more). The Cerato GT also has weird equipment omissions, such as no automatic wipers (which for a top-spec, near $40,000 car is poor). The only item the Astina doesn’t have in comparison is the ventilated seats (not a big deal), but gains a lot of standard equipment. Fun car, but beware.
I would put ventilated seats 5 times higher on the options list than auto wipers! Only thing I really miss in the Cerato GT is cornering headlights and autodipping side mirrors on reverse. You must have had a Friday build car! Coming up 12 months ownership for me and had no warranty issues at all.
My son was looking for a sporty smaller car- I went along for interest we tested a few cars but the cerato GT brought him back. I was very impressed and then got itchy feet. We both ended up ordering one. 😀😀 can’t wait for them to arrive. Good review btw.
I've driven 70.000km in two different Cerato GTs - one a hatch, and stolen, the other a sedan - in the four years since this car was released. I miss my hatch, and will replace my current sedan with a new (facelifted) car at the start of next year. This car is a wonderful all-rounder, as you attest to. Its fun, and practical. I've loaded some extremely awkward things in the hatch, and both cars have surprising nippy performance, but also great fuel economy. I actually got just over 700km out of a tank once, and regularly achieved 600km ranges. As you said, great value for money.
Hey Matt, great video - got myself the exact same model and colour 2 months ago! Been waiting for this review! Love the car so far, just a quick question; did you find the engine had a slight buzzing/tinny sound when going through the first few gears? It’s not the fake induction noise (I’m surprised you didn’t mention btw) but I’m thinking because I came from a v6 I’m just not used to a 4cyl sound? Anyway, cheers bro - keep up the good work.
I’ve had my white sedan for about 3 months now, absolutely love it! Can’t believe how refined it feels and how fun it is to drive, I test drove some cars double the price that didn’t feel as good! Great review Matt, thanks:)
I did the same and couldn't agree more. My father ended up buying one and ended up trading my mother out of a ten year old Elantra into a GT-Line Picanto. Both are absolutely brilliant. Far better than you could reasonably expect and far better than many more expensive contenders.
I wood say after driving both cars GT and the Hyundai. N-line has little softer suspension so there's a bit of trade of for sports driving though they both handle and drive very well. You wood be happy with either car there great
Dry clutch refers to the fact the clutches are not submerged in an oil bath ala most motorcycles. It’s got nothing to do with the level of oil in the gearbox lol!
Great review Matt.. Bought the GT sedan last November and i love it.. Such a great car with so many features for the price .. The updated front end looks great I gotta say!
With those rear lights, especially the low down indicators, I was always taught to ensure I could the rear tyres of the vehicle in front of me, just as a guide to not be too close to the car infront, so going by that, I'd always see the low down indicators on these cars, even stopped at lights, you should always leave a safe gap, helps if you get rear ended, you're less likely to hit the car in front of you, depending on what hits you from behind. I think the new Cerato looks so sporty, even in the base model. Kia are making leaps and bounds in their styling, just look at the new gen5 sportage due for release in Australia in October.
The rear indicators are dangerous. Some idiot in a Kia wanted to merge into my lane before they even passed me and I didn't even see it till they were veering into my lane. Of course they were a bad driver, but having the indicator that low meant I could not see it at all.
@@Chrizzaah there is an indicator in the side wing mirrors, which can be clearly seen when you're beside the the vehicle or to the diagonal of it. Kia wasn't the first vehicle to place their indicators down that low in the rear, alot of the larger suvs like Toyota and Mitsubishi have been doing it for years.
I’ve had mine for 15 months and I’m really liking it. The DCT is average around the burbs but loves the open round. Plenty of umph when needed. No regrets of replacing my 2015 i30. I would recommend it with the possible caveat that stop start traffic in the city doesn’t marry well with the DCT. As I’m retired I don’t face that very often.😊😊
I really have to remember that when my '06 Mk5 Golf R32 came out it was close to 60 grand, because I compare every hot hatch to it. As far as they go, the Cerato is a bit luke warm imo, because it's slower than the R32, but as far as pricing goes, I reckon it's pretty well priced for what it offers.
@@abdelsattout7198 You've had your car a while now and I hope it worked out, but for other reader's benefit, I had a Snow White Pearl hatch, and currently a metallic red sedan. The white is just gorgeous to look at.
You say "The transmission is dry and has no oil for the gears to run in" Wrong. The transmission contains about 2 ltrs of 70w gear oil, but the double clutch section is "Dry" so it does not have oil lubrication.
Monique didn’t smile much - was it because she would have preferred piloting your Chairman ...? Awesome review - pretty much sold me on my last ever enthusiast petrol machine before the inevitable electric and hybrid creep ... and that new Kia logo clinches it for me (or more correctly, no longer being put off by that Gawd awful old preschool Kia oval logo!).

Bluetooth works fine. I am getting a wireless android adapter to see if that will solve the AA picture. I assume once KIA resolves the google fight a firmware update might enable proper wireless AA.
Hey Matt! If I had to choose between this or a Hyundai i30 sedan (lame engine variant) except with the sexy touch screen and display, what would you pick?
Great video! I was thinking of getting the 2019 version but found the suspension just a bit firm so went for the Hyundai 130 n-line hatch. Just wondering why the cerato gt has a quicker 0-100 than the i30n line when they have the same specs? 6.7 vs 7.1 secs
Lot of variables come into play like temperature, road surface ,how many kms as it may not be run in wind gusts, how fuel in tank also the Cerato is slightly heavier but I don't think it would be a factor as it's not a great deal heavier
Could just come down to the tune? Maybe some parts other than the engine and turbo assist with this matter? I believe the exhaust on the cerato gt is better than the n-line? Could be a lot of factors.
I wish kia would put in the digital dash in the forte especially for the north american market. but at least i do love the new 10.25 touchscreen radio and the new kia logo
No doubt the Kia Forte doesn't sell well in North America - hatchbacks ate largely disregarded in favour of their SUV big brothers, so Kia will put the money and accessories into cars that actual move from the showroom floor.
