For the split custody generation, I’d recommend downloading Lumpinou’s relationship and pregnancy overhaul mod! It’s huge and adds so much realism to the game, including the ability to split custody between households! You can set a schedule and the child will automatically transfer between households. It also adds so many other things that make the game way more complex in terms of storytelling. I literally don’t think I could go back to playing the sims without it, I would be too bored.
My first thought when it said “split custody” was to literally split the kids up half and half between the parents. I think I might actually play it that way and invite the other children over frequently just to avoid manage worlds. I’ll also have to come up with a workaround for the retail challenges because that’s not my thing, but the rest sounds like a lot of fun!
And, honestly, that's how some families handle divorce, let the kids choose what parent to stay with and just have them visit the opposite one when they want to.
I did this with one of my families. Not for the challenge, but my teenager ended up getting their girlfriend pregnant and his parents moved their kid in with them, since their girlfriend had a single mom already raising three kids. When they became adults, they had another kid and that kid lived with the girlfriend and they would visit each other frequently until they got married. It worked out nicely and there were some cute moments like when the siblings first got to meet!
Out of every sims challenge, I think this is the knly one that has ever captivated me through gameplay and not through just videos. And your voice is so angelic ❤
I want to start this. There are some parts I will need to adapt because I don't have the needed packs. I will be learning more about the sims4 with the guidance of this challenge. I have also subscribed. BTW, I am old.

I'm becoming bored with my Sims and decided to do a Legacy Challenge, but I haven't found one that piqued my interest enough until this video, It's so amazing and interesting and there are stuff that I haven't tried yet (farming, knitting, traveling). So excited. Thank you very much!

I relate so hard to the gen 8 person, and seeing them finding their happily ever after gave me an instant boost of happiness and relief. I have a sims save where I just play with generations and generations trying out everything i want to, storylines, cute families, different careers etc. and i try to focus on having diverse characters but one thing I can't bring myself to change is one of my sims getting a divorce. There are sims who have exes but never an ex-spouse.
The variety of storylines sounds really interesting. I also like that some of the generations’ personality and goals start when they are children or teens. I usually ignore my generation’s kids until they are adults and the current generation’s goals are complete, but this seems a lot more fun.

In my favorite savefile i have a family very similar to the 1st two generations of this challenge. I played without rules so far, just doing whatever i wanted but i'll try kind of following this from now on, it sounds fun!
For 3rd gen, you might have to step out of the spotlight because you get famous just by playing at community lots. For gen 4, freegan would be a good trait. They get negative moodlets from having a job, earning or spending money. They get positive moodlets from sleeping on community lots. For gen 7, it might seem a bit more realistic if you maintained a good friends status with your ex. Then, you can go over to their house and "Ask them to join household". When the menu comes up, you can just move the kids back and forth instead of the adults. This is sort of role playing picking up or dropping off the kids.

I love your descriptions for each generation, they’re all so different and interesting! I’m a very story based simmer and I see so many great story opportunities here! It’s the perfect balance!
It may not be what you intended, but in my divorced sim household in terms of custody I had the child stay with their mom, and then set up two house parties per week in the calendar that were not goaled events. I invited the dad and the son as attendees. Dad would come over and play with his son for a few hours and then go home. You just have to set them up a couple of weeks in advance every so often. If the son had lived with dad, I wouldve done the same thing and invited them over. It's more visitation than split custody, but if you want to avoid manage worlds that's also a quick and easy way to do it without mods!

I always play the sims with aging off, so I don't do legacy challenges, but this is the first one that's motivated me to actually do a challenge like this, it seems so fun
You can still play legacy with aging off! That’s what I usually do and then as the kids grow older, I set non-active sims to aging and adjust lifespan to kids, teens, etc are about a few days long so that the town can age up with my sims!

i'm currently playing a not so berry challenge, so it's going to be a while until i can try this (if i switch save files i'm never coming back rip), but it has such a fun storyline!! i especially like how it spaces out nature/creative/different generations and how it almost always says how the heir should meet their s/o. with the mean sims glitch recently, picking between a bunch of sims that kinda hated my sim had been a nightmare, at least in this case i have the choice between less people that hate them !

It's so cool how Pinstar's original idea has had so many variationsn over the years. Always makes me wonder why EA doesn't cash in on so many player's desire for extended family play like this. Reminds me a bit of the Differences in the Family Tree variation from Sims 3. Different goals per generation. Always thought it was a good idea because it helps the player focus on things and often encourages us to try something we haven't done before. Always impressed when people complete a legacy! Furthest I ever got was Gen 8 ... then my game imploded. So I usually stick to shorter challenges. Gen 9 sounds really sweet. Are the rules/generations goals spelled out somewhere? I love challenges and collect them. Glad I do, too! So many websites have disappeared.

This legacy challenge looks really fun, I can't play it yet though cos I literally only own get to work expansion and a few stuff packs, when I get all the Sims packs I'm definitely gunna give it a go. I would like to see a simmer actually do a full run of a legacy challenge but most start and about 6-10 episodes in they stop. I mean, I understand it, at the end of the day simstubers and other UA-camrs have to keep viewership up, and burnout is a thing, so when they stop it's usually because views have dropped or their creativity has hit a slump, and that's fair enough, albeit a little disappointing. If you know anyone who has completed a full legacy challenge lemme know 😅

It's so cool how Pinstar's original idea has had so many variationsn over the years. Always makes me wonder why EA doesn't cash in on so many player's desire for extended family play like this. Reminds me a bit of the Differences in the Family Tree variation from Sims 3. Different goals per generation. Always thought it was a good idea because it helps the player focus on things and often encourages us to try something we haven't done before. Always impressed when people complete a legacy! Furthest I ever got was Gen 8 ... then my game imploded. So I usually stick to shorter challenges. Gen 9 sounds really sweet. Are the rules/generations goals spelled out somewhere? I love challenges and collect them. Glad I do, too! So many websites have disappeared.

This legacy challenge looks really fun, I can't play it yet though cos I literally only own get to work expansion and a few stuff packs, when I get all the Sims packs I'm definitely gunna give it a go.
I would like to see a simmer actually do a full run of a legacy challenge but most start and about 6-10 episodes in they stop.
I mean, I understand it, at the end of the day simstubers and other UA-camrs have to keep viewership up, and burnout is a thing, so when they stop it's usually because views have dropped or their creativity has hit a slump, and that's fair enough, albeit a little disappointing. If you know anyone who has completed a full legacy challenge lemme know 😅
