In odd man rushes or just a normal rush you need to be able to see all the skaters on the opposing team. To do this, you need to be able to build your peripheral vision to be able to see the players without the puck clearly without having to look in their direction. If there is a shooter say at the top of the zone, and you want to know where someone is, you just need to be really fast, and mainly look with your eyes and not your head.
