last night I saw Sonny perform this with Scullion at the Gig For Robbie tribute concert in honour of Robbie Brennan, it was fantastic and i consider myself very privileged to experience it. I saw him perform it as a solo song at a Tir Na Nog reunion in 1994, this version was even better, it brought back great childhood memories.
Beautiful, One of the great Irish classics, timeless, intelligent, powerful. I'm just wondering why the title caption reads Scullion? This was Sonny Condell solo without Scullion, or am I mistaken ?
We all have different reference points to draw from along our musical journeys. For me it's Irish poets and the Foxrock Folk Club where many a RTE type and bedraggled music journalist could be found the worse for wear. There's only good and bad music in this short life. so fill yer boots Jenny.
Used to go see Scullion in Limerick back in the mid 80's. Always magical evenings of song. Class never dies.....
Who is the Genius responsible for this Impeccable recording ?
Sonny Condell is a National Treasure !
The production is outstanding, isn't it?
"I'm ending my day with you" - what a gorgeous line and concept.
"...so hold me close-uh"
possibly the best recorded male vocals in popular music history. i love this song
❤ Still love this many decades since I first I heard it 🌹
The vocals, the musicianship, the production, everything about this is absolute class. It's one of my all time favourites.
Timeless.
It's as good as ever.❤

Masterpiece.
Man, I was gonna name my song down in the city.
An absolute classic, its still on my set-list when I`m doing solo gigs, and always goes down well at house partys and get togethers
Now you found what you were looking for.
and on to 'Skating Away, on the thin ice of the new day' ...
Reminds me of Cafe Chantant "de Plu's" in Groningen, 1984
With Robbie Brennan on 🥁 drums
Love this song so sad especially when we sang it at my dads funerall

The original version was Sonny solo on his Camouflage album. This version is Scullion.
Live at the rds make it work
Its weird Sonny would write a song like this.... It sounds like a Leo O'Kelly song...
Carn Shore Point Anti Nuc Festival ...the wherr brill and we where cold..!
Sportsfield Bar anyone
Scullion is my last name
So why can't you spell it then?
its alright but it all so 80s waterboyish but lyricaly weaker
JENNY COOPER This song was released in 1979 and the Waterboys weren't founded until 1983. So who's copying who ? 😀
Was 1977 - on Sonny Condell's debut solo album, Camouflage
