"Are we like... able to control people's thoughts, and we're like, flipping the table on them?" Holy shit. I can't believe someone accurately deduced the plot from this song alone lol
You've basically nailed the premise! It's about literally invading a corrupt person's mind (which takes the shape of a palace) and forcefully making them have a change of heart.
Which is insanely immoral, especially since the game established it's not their fault and the distortions of the metaverse is what's responsible for their terrible behaviour.
@@pezdispencer113 that's not true at all, the distortion it came from the masses as a whole but the Palaces it came from the person itself they are ones the one who built those palaces from there distorted desires being extremely distorted because of there ambition is too big it literally said that, there is no excuses for them, stop giving any of those palace rulers excuse they are all pieces of shits except of course futaba and Sae
@@pezdispencer113 You could kind of make the case that makes it more moral. In fact, you can make the case that it's the only moral thing that could be done. Because then it's more like a disease in your body that needs to be removed. If it's not their fault, they are suffering through it as well. The phantom thieves aren't the ones dishing out punishment afterwards. They remove the corruption, if anyone is the immoral in the scenario it's the criminal justice system at the back end. If these people weren't at fault, once the corruption is gone, then instead of being punished they should be given therapy. If it was a choice then it's who they want to be. If it was a choice, there were many decisions that led them down the path to get them where they are before the phantom thieves intervened, but with them not having a choice it means this is an attack upon them as well. It would be immoral to let that continue. The corrupted would also not be in a sound state of mind to make the decision for themselves either. It would be akin to letting a mentally unstable person harm themselves because they don't have a full grasp of reality. Would you sit back and watch? I dunno...sounds kind of heartless to allow that suffering to continue and do nothing.
@@pezdispencer113 If the distortions are forced on them then removing the distortion is restoring their will, not really forcing them to change. It is making them normal. I think in the lore though, you are not really forcing them to do anything technically. First, their distortions are from the corruption in the metaverse, but the reason that particular people develop the distortion is because they had unhealthy desires. The metaverse warped those desires and turned them into compulsions, and what you are doing is not so much changing their thinking as it is taking the compulsion away so *they* can finally think clearly about their actions.
@@pezdispencer113 That makes no sense. If the reason they are evil is because of the Metaverse distorting them, and Phantom Thieves enter the metaverse to remove the distortion, that just means they are putting things back to normal for that person and restoring their freedom. If they naturally became evil and distorted, with their cognition altering the metaverse, which is more likely, then MAYBE you have a case. But even then I disagree. All it does is removed distorted views and allow you to observe your own actions through an objective filter. It doesn’t force you to be nice, only to not have distorted desires.

And how the people that stand against them can't stop that because it's not something that can be stopped, it's a revolution, Life Will Change. And like the instrumentation effects that as the song progresses it starts layering in more and more elements choir, rhodes piano, ect. It just supports the narrative of the song more.
This game (Persona 5) actually saved me from suffering deeper into my 7 years of clinical anxiety disorder and depression. He nailed the premise of the game with Life Will Change. I hope he will also do "Axe to Grind" and "Daredevil" from Scramble as will, not to mention "Believe" from Royal.
Persona 5 follows the format of some kind of heist movie, especially the Japanese 'kaito' genre when the theif or theives send a note like "we'll steal your precious and you can't stop us" beforehand. The protagonists are going into a heist into the mind of a poweful, but corrupt figure. The agressive and taunting lyrics are basically a challange note to the villain.

First, you breakdown of the line about being inside the villain's head was almost spot on what the plot is about, so kudos for understanding that almost instantly. Secondly, the pace of this one is a little higher because it plays during the most intense sections of the game: the heist days. It's the perfect anticipation builder for stealing the villain's treasure right out from under them.
LOL, yeah. He's spot on with that analysis of what's going on. Corrupt leaders, teachers, authority figures. They are using their positions of power to take advantage, and in some cases literally abuse people. So a group found they had powers and started using them to fight back; to take back freedom for not just themselves, but the people without the power to defend themselves. It's interesting how music can tell a story all it's own, and why I am fascinated by games. Because they take all different forms of art and put them together to tell the same story, in different ways at the same time. Each part of it, the music, the visuals, the dialogue, even what's happening during the game-play elements, all tell a different part of what's going on together.
Masks and internal thoughts and feelings are a major theme in all of the Persona games. This one is more rebellious which is exemplified by the jazzy elements in the music.
Yeah when you talked about the soundtrack appealing to a wider audience, there is a reason why Persona 5 was nominated at the game awards for best soundtrack!
This is the song that gets played when u have sent the Calling card to the villain to tell em u are gonna steal their heart and make em confess every crime they ever commited.
Something worth noting is that for the vast majority of the game this track is actually an instrumental that starts up when you're about to make the final run through a level to challenge the boss. You've done all your research, you've searched every nook and cranny for advantages and now it's time to finish it, so the music is always associated with that triumphant march. THIS one pops up at one of the emotional climaxes of the story, suddenly the hype track you've been swaggering around to all game gains a whole other dimension. It feels like you and your crew have finally crystalised exactly who you are, what you've already done, and what you're about to do now. "That very unique cadence and way of enunciating things." The singer, Lyn (or Rin) Inaizumi, is Japanese. I can't find any definite sources on how much English she knows, but she has apologized for her delivery after one boneheaded journalist thought there was a racial slur in one song. Some people question whether she's even all that fluent in English, and it's entirely possible that she sang them without much understanding of what the words meant. But I love it. Somehow it adds to the Jazziness for me. I'm sure she was given a translation, but if the individual words, the syllables, meant little to nothing to her, then this approaches scatting. At least to my sensibilities.
Dude you have got to sit down and play this game. It's a massive ride of emotion and the music is a major major bonus to this game. This song in particular the first time it plays your like.... Oh yeah I'm coming for you! It's like the pre-boss battle theme. You nailed so much if the premise of the game just from listening to this song! It's so amazing! Play it!
The way Knox understands the premise of the game through the lyrics of this song is a testament to his lyric comprehension and the song's artfulness 🔥🔥 This is just another example of why I watch his reactions. A lot of times, I end up with more insight than I started with
I love the songs in Persona 5 and it is good to watch the reaction of someone who haven't play the game but have a lots of knowledge like you. Make me see the song entirely different as it is not only about in game reference. Though it is also good to see the song in the game too as each song seem to be related to one character (boss) in the game and the way the songs are written so they can be looped or connect to each other in background without break.
If you are still willing to give P5 a chance, i would highly recommend the songs "I Belive" (Persona 5 Royal) and "Daredevil" (Persona 5 Strikers) they are both absolute amazing!
You should totally check out stuff with Lotus Juice from Persona 3 / 4! Backside of TV remix from Persona 4 Dancing has Lotus Juice spitting some BARS.

Just discovered you through your Persona reactions! I love your content, your analysis to lyrics is so spot on. PLEASE do some videos on the Persona 3 Reload OST! Its a new Persona game coming out in a month, but some of the OST has already been released. Better yet, what P5 did with jazz, P3 does with rap, so its even more in your area! Astonishing... You sure you never played the game? Because you nailed the whole theme and narrative down to a T! It's amazing how you can get all this from just the song. The writers really knew their craft.
You should check out some of the stuff from the other Persona games too! Specifically, the stuff by the rapper Lotus Juice. He's a great rapper and I think you'd really enjoy him. Some of his songs from the various Persona games are "Mass Destruction", "Break Out Of", "Light the Fire Up in the Night", and "Backside of the TV (Lotus Juice Remix)".

While it's not rap you absolutely gotta check out "Under Our Sky" by none other than HalaCG. That's just one of her many impressive songs (and most of them are rap) but its in my top for her. Regardless you gotta check this girl out.
This song is about the Main Cast who are all outcasts for one reason or another reclaiming their place. The mask line is a literal reference in the game with the Main Cast wearing masks to hide their identity and also the Yungion concept of the masks we wear to make it though the day.
Oh god, I can't believe I forgot about a recommendation. You should definitely react to Rustage's album Overflow. There are little to no anime references and all the songs are very good. Though one of the songs, Trauma has some unsavory topics about grooming, so warning for that ig
Something that this song has in particular. It is that the lyrics do not make much sense, until you play Persona 5, especially when you are already going through the last palaces, this song becomes the anthem of the game and the hype reaches its maximum, when you know the whole story. And the lyrics become pure poetry
Knox you're literally, about, on the dot. In Persona 5 you basically play as a crew of superheroes that are able to go into people's dark minds to "to steal their heart". This is the track that plays when you are in what's called "The metaverse" and on the mission to steal their hearts or more accurately stealing the villain's "distorted desires" so that they will confess to their crimes. But this all takes place after you Map out the area where the adversary stores their dark heart.
Dude just dissected the plot of the game from listening to a song, lmao. Love it! Also, if you're enjoying the Persona 5 OST so far, you should check out "I Believe" and "Stronger" as well!
good video, this persona 5 game has the best video game soundtracks I recommend listening to "No more what Ifs" from the same game is a chill song and metaphorical messages
Really enjoyed this Knox thank you!! Just to let you know that J-Hope has a new single out tomorrow with J.Cole so I thought you’d be interested 😊 It’s his ‘goodbye’ song before the military and he said it’s him going back to his roots so makes sense he has his muse on it with him 💜
6:32- 6:42 Very specifically, actually, yes. That is basically what the game is about. Corrupt people, going into their cognition to free their minds of corrupt view points and changing their 'heart' to be more humane.
It is now, after the third video about it, that I do realize that even he doesn't know anything about the game the OST was able to give him some pieces about what the game is. For example in the game the protagonists have powers that are sealed behind a mask and they have to literally tear off the mask (blood included) to awake them. But I still reccomend to do some research, even the incipit would be good and then re-watch the 2 opening sequence from Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal.
4:39 This song has a part that sounds like it "plagiarized" An old song "spin me round like Record" But here it is an organ that plays, and there it is the singer who does
After you review all like 200ish songs from the Persona 5, Persona 5 the Royal, and Persona 5 the Animation, you should look into the Persona 3 soundtrack which had a much more rap/techno feel with its main battle theme "Mass Destruction"
In the game you summon the power of your Persona by tearing a literal mask off your face. When applied to real life it’s all metaphorical, but it still works: removing the mask you wear for the people around you to unleash your true self
"Are we like... able to control people's thoughts, and we're like, flipping the table on them?" Holy shit. I can't believe someone accurately deduced the plot from this song alone lol
That’s what I said lol
I think that also just shows the power of the lyrics too lol

Also Pull the Trigger and Wait and See from Persona Q2!
These songs are all about rebellion against corruption
"That very unique cadence and way of enunciating things."
The singer, Lyn (or Rin) Inaizumi, is Japanese.
Play it!
The way Knox understands the premise of the game through the lyrics of this song is a testament to his lyric comprehension and the song's artfulness 🔥🔥
This is just another example of why I watch his reactions. A lot of times, I end up with more insight than I started with
honestly, now I wanna see Knoxx play this game and just see him jammin to these while challenging society's corrupt as a vigilante
This plays as the final push for the main boss in each dungeons. It's so perfect in that context you won't believe👏👏👏
What's amazing is you have no idea how much you really nailed the premise 😆
Love the base that runs the backbone of this song so much!
As a rapper, I think you'd enjoy "mass destruction" and "burn my dread- last battle" from Persona 3. Both are cool as hell.
Lotus Juice🤟
I really think that you will absolutely love Persona 3 OST
More Persona, please! P3 and P4 are full of bangers as well, Burn my Dread, Heaven, Memories of You, Mass Destruction, Heartbreak Heartbreak, Never More, top to bottom masterpiece OSTs. Not to mention all the other tracks from P5.
Baby Baby Baby Baby...
I basacly finish that game 2 week ago and yes, be ready for a blast for all the ost of that game
I recommend: Mass Destruction, It's Going Down Now, and Color Your Night
The thing I love about the persona series ost's each revolves around a musical genre and pretty certain persona 5 is jazz.
Persona music never disappoints
6:24 fuckin hell he nailed it with the explanation of what the game is here
It makes me appreciate the OST that much more that the music on its own can elude to the narrative so well
I mean, its to be expected, but its poetic and clear at the same time
"What just happened?" you ask?
Your Life Got Changed!
Definitely check out some stuff from Persona 3. Way more hip-hop focused in general.
Let me propose "Burn My Dread - Last Battle" in particular
This is my favorite track along with the ones where you are about to face the harder battles like Shido. That track also is hard!! Heck, I am playing the game right now. Bout to make a harem lol
I always like your breakdown of these songs! You are always a lot better at deciphering the lyrics than I am! And its always nice to hear your perspective as an artist! Your thoughts just make me appreciate the OST more!
I would love to see you tackle “Take Over” or “I Believe” from the Persona 5 OST too if you’re down!
Astonishing...
You sure you never played the game? Because you nailed the whole theme and narrative down to a T!
It's amazing how you can get all this from just the song. The writers really knew their craft.
Please react to “throw away your mask” next, its a super good song, definitely one of my favorites
The "life will change" OST can only be described by one phrase "It's Showtime!". You know shits about to go down, win it or lose it all.
this guy in the first minute just descrive the entire gameplay of persona 5
Wow dude. Bravo. To actually understand the whole idea of the game on the music alone. U are insanely talented for sure.
Would also add "Fate Is In Our Hands" from the Persona 3 movie.
Man literally realized the game's entire plot by this song alone
"We're going to take our mask off and get out there"
That's literally what the game is about.
my guy you just described what that song is about
Knox glad to see you expanding some of your horizons on this channel especially with the extra nerdcore love. While it's not rap you absolutely gotta check out "Under Our Sky" by none other than HalaCG. That's just one of her many impressive songs (and most of them are rap) but its in my top for her. Regardless you gotta check this girl out.
Everytime this song is playing, ur dam right the game matches the pace haha
Please do Throw Away Your Mask!!! Amazing song from the finale of Persona 5 Royale
This song is about the Main Cast who are all outcasts for one reason or another reclaiming their place. The mask line is a literal reference in the game with the Main Cast wearing masks to hide their identity and also the Yungion concept of the masks we wear to make it though the day.
Can't wait for a Throw your mask away reaction.
Knox you need to copyright the lie swatter phrase lol, great reaction as always!
But this all takes place after you Map out the area where the adversary stores their dark heart.
a react of Dan Bull - Enderman Rap
would be awesome!
Maaaan, you did it lol I'm about to turn on my Switch and start the game all over again xD
Honestly has some of the best connections between the song and the meanings behind the story and even the gameplay.
I like how you're analyzing the lyrics, so I want you to react to Persona 4's Reach out to the truth. Just a suggestion.
This is the Palace infiltration music when you go in to change the heart of the corrupt person so you kinda nailed it
Wait till he discovers grovey from persona 5 dancing
I would also suggest the music Colors Flying High. Although the lyrics aren't subtle at all their message is a great one!
Now you've gotta try singing this song.
what i've gathered is that persona 5 ost is universally liked. I haven't seen anyone say they don't like it.
4:39 This song has a part that sounds like it "plagiarized" An old song "spin me round like Record" But here it is an organ that plays, and there it is the singer who does
The lyrics work as amazing metaphors. But the game takes it a step further and makes those metaphors real.
Fun fact: the game plays an instrumental version of this song (only in late game it uses the voiced one).
After you review all like 200ish songs from the Persona 5, Persona 5 the Royal, and Persona 5 the Animation, you should look into the Persona 3 soundtrack which had a much more rap/techno feel with its main battle theme "Mass Destruction"
I've be interested to see his reaction to tracks like Mass Destruction of Wiping All Out, since he IS a rapper.
I must recommend Bury The Light- Virgils battle theme from DM5
Man, this is success, i mean, you almost literally recapped the gameplay without watching it!
If you haven‘t checked it out yet, I strongly recommend „I believe“ next. It‘s a track added in persona 5 royal and… hoo boy
WAKE UP! GET UP! GET OUT THERE!
RAISE YOUR VOICE AGAINST LIARS!
You should listen to Stronger from P5 Strikers (with the opening scene :D). Game has more of a rock twist.
In the game you summon the power of your Persona by tearing a literal mask off your face. When applied to real life it’s all metaphorical, but it still works: removing the mask you wear for the people around you to unleash your true self
persawna? persauna? purse owner?
