I create a lot of my videos, engineer sketches and notes on my iPad and if you own an iPad and are looking for a matt screen protector, I have been using Paperlike screen protectors for 3 years now and they are really good. Feel free to check it out - paperlike.com/...

Great vids do you use 3d drawing software for drawing
What kind of Piles have you proposed? Are they practically possible to install under the existing foundations?
Thanks for the videos as always. I typically design/detail so the beam sits on top of the column so the beam isn’t relying purely on shear in the bolts. What are your thoughts/preference. Need to pull my finger out and start my chartership with IStructE!
That detail is fine and some contractors do prefer it. It’s easier to find software that designs the moment connection when the beam is bolted to the face of the column. I’m sure it’s possible to design a moment connection when the beam is bearing on the column, but I haven’t come across a piece of software that does it. And I’m too lazy to do it by hand 😛
@@EverydayDazz ah that’s fair enough. I use quikjoint although the default is as you have detailed. So I change the axial and horizontal force so the it tricks the column/beam to essentially swap
Masterseries does this moment connection
man I really wish those people at concepts would update the android app
Very clear to understand, I wish I had you do my se calcs and drawings 👍👍 I’m lucky if I get a measurement on some of mine I’ve had 🤣🤣 can I ask I noticed in one of the sections it says to make good masonry and mortar and to tie the column to the wall (assume 100mm blockwork) with m10 anchor resin bolts. Would that literally mean wall the blockwork back up butt upto column and then once all cured drill through the column into the blockwork with the resin bolts at 450mm spacings( 2course block) or could it be achieved with the Lbracket type ties hilti gun tho the column then walled up (still keeping it tied every 2 course 450mm)?.love the videos learning a lot 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Also a good video. Others just talk you show what you are actually doing. 👍
Please can you do a load takedown video for this and the thought process and reasoning why you did certain things.
Maybe i could do a video talking through the calculations i did?
@@EverydayDazz that would be good thought process and the engineering judgment are two things new engineers lack.
Thanks for the videos there a big help as a new graduate. I have 2 questions.
1. How would you determine the loading on a frame like this? Would you have to pull up floorboards / internal investigation to check joist spans and determine if there are any load bearing walls internally?
2. Why would a goal post frame be needed and not just a steel beam to bridge the opening?
Thank you!
1. The loading would be from walls and floors. So yeah lift up floors to determine joist spans etc.
2. Several reasons. Load is too large to be supported on just masonry walls. I need the goal post frame to also act as a stability frame as I am removing a significant wall which would have been providing resistance to wind loads. Also with the amount of load, I need the beam to work as a moment frame to reduce deflections. If it was only bearing on walls, the deflection would be higher as the beam can only act simply supported.
@@EverydayDazz understood! Thanks for the explanation
@@EverydayDazz Hi Dazz, how do you define the deflection limit for steel beams supporting masonry?
According to BS it's L/360 for dead & live load, but that might be too big deflection for longer beams, e.g. 8m beams as it can be found in some resi projects. I limit the deflection to 12mm, but that's close to L/700, do you think it's an overkill?
Thanks,
I tend to limit masonry deflections to L/500 or max 20mm for new masonry.
For supporting existing masonry, I’d use a tighter limit. Something around 10-15mm max
Sir can we break concrete of the RCC column from footing due to RCC column don't have strength
Im curious. In your line of work, would a sketch like this be a final issued document (stamped, sealed or whatever yall do), or does this go to a draftsman to layout in sheets before issuing?
For this project. This was enough for the fabricator as they were going to site to measure the exact measurements.
For bigger jobs, this would probably be drawn up properly on CAD.
However, it’s not uncommon during construction stage of big projects for them to build off sketches. Completely depends on the situation really.
@@EverydayDazz so this would probably be in response to an RFI or some other construction request for more details on a particular point? Most places I've been, constructors won't touch a detail or sketch with a ten foot pole if it's not a formally issued drawing.
Exactly.
For small resi stuff like this, sketches should be fine.
What is the software/app you are using for your sketchs?
Concepts on the iPad. I swear by it
Great video, the ending was kinda dark
Hmm don’t know why there’s like 3 minutes of nothing at the end.
Appreciate it
